Avenza maps has an app for your phone that has a lot of USGS Topo maps and a lot of other useful maps as well. It’s free. All of the available maps have been gps coordinated so when you’re using the map in the area you are in it shows your location. It’s a great tool that has netted me a lot of places to detect. Using these with land deeds, and census records can give you a lot more information about who and how long someone has lived at a property. Thanks for looking hopefully this helps someone find a new permission to detect.

Thanks, Blackflag. Any tool we can use to accurately discover historical areas is well worth it, and this one is a great example because it's free 🥳 Hope it lasts! 😅

F350Platinum, I have been using it for a long time now. You can buy some maps, but it also has a lot of maps for free.

I use ONX Hunt for tracking (when I have a mind to), and Caltopo for its strength with Lidar and layers.

I'm hoping this app is a lil more accurate with locations, will test it out in my front yard, there was an old house in the field many years ago. 🙂

Nice to know what someone else uses. It’s fairly accurate considering the age of some of the maps I’m using. Some of the Topos are 75 years old. You will see some structures were never mapped exactly correct to begin with. For the most part it is really good. You can zoom in the map while driving or waking and scope out most places before you ever have to put boots on the ground. Hope it helps you find more places.

I posted these a couple years ago, I think it covers the apps I mentioned and more. Really like Avenza too. 👍
