New Minelab GPZ 8000 Officially Announced!

What a surprise, it is a GPZ 8000 and it has concentric coils 🙂  I predicted when and if there ever was an 8000 it would have concentric coils after their success on the 7000.  Weird looking things though 🙂 

At least he said it has a lot of settings, so it's not dumbed down like the 6000.  It's going to be terrible in bushy or rocky ground with those coils though.  I guess someone will make solid skid plates to help improve it.  Looks like it is designed for bigger deeper gold with those Concentrics and they look spiral wound too.

The open coil is a dud for starters. Is that what $15k buys nowadays?

I know coils aren't Minelab's strength, but come on, Minelab, more gimmickry over practicality.

And a return to an external coil lead is interesting.

Because a concentric coil has 2 separate looms (transmit and receive), this odd shape is the logical step to take in order to reduce weight. Less plastic, less foam, less weight. I couldn't care less how it looks, the reduction in weight and field performance is all that matters to me.....and price of course!

 

Amusing that they chose to reveal the Zed8 at Sovereign Hill tourist town in Ballarat....
