  1. I don't like ABS filament for the noxious fumes it gives off during printing. It's not particularly tough either in my experience, as you can mar it with your fingernail. For filament prints I like PETG or other nylons. For resin prints I mostly choose Formlabs "Tough 1500". Resins of course come with their own challenges, being toxic until cured, and the isopropyl alcohol vapours emitted during the wash phase. But the resolution is hard to beat.

  2. Hi Steve,

Wanted to kick this around for consideration. I know some of us have come up with models for 3D printed devices that are useful in this particular art of prospecting with detectors.

Would you consider a new category in the Downloads section for such printer files? I know I and others have uploaded objects into various threads, but they do tend to get lost in the shuffle. I've got another object standing by to start things off if you would agree.

    Thx,

  3. Let us pause to consider the brave, new greenwashed world where oil is eliminated; the ambulances and fire trucks at your beck and call are are somehow smelted and powered solar electrically - sourced with locally and ethically produced nickel, copper and lithium. Plastics, rubber, and steel eliminated and replaced with compressed leaf matter. Solar cells magically created not by existing coal-fired Chinese silicon rare earth and Uighur slave labour camps, but rather you imaginary rainbow unicorn farts:

  4. Yah, so JB Weld Plastic didn't hold. Certain plastics epoxies just won't dig into - this shaft is made of one. If I was to add an internal collar + epoxy, passing the battery lead thru might prove impossible; not much wasted space there. An external clamp plus epoxy, well that also adds weight. I am mostly concerned that a metal hose clamp or metal filled epoxy would negatively impact the coil field, skewing it skywards instead of downwards.

But, both fixes would defeat one of the best features of the XP detectors - they are the lightest available. Guess I'm popping for a new shaft and will treat the next one better.

  5. During the Cariboo gold rush, Barkerville was actually the largest city west of Chicago and north of San Fran. I'm going to be doing research in their archives in a couple of weeks. That, and walking some potential ground. Hopefully no snow and a bit of detecting as well.
