The GM1000 struggles in most Oz goldfield conditions and needs to be used only in very mild ground. The digital audio overcompensates and produces way too many clicks and pops which resemble a target....the GB2, Gold Kruzer and the 24K all have analogue type audio with a smooth threshold tone and mineralization noise is far easier to discern. When you have to dumb a detector down to below 50% gain to cope with even moderate mineralization, I figure its not for me. Gerry is right, I know my detectors enuff to know what to expect from a unit and if it aint right for me, I move on and choose another. So glad I chose the 24K! But having said that, my modded 4500 is killing it for me right now...

Good to hear your modded 45 is doing it's job, I had a modded 3500 & I liked it because I had control over the gain, the best coil for it was the Detech 11" spiral... just turn the gain down a little and away you go, it was very sensitive to tiny bits. Very quite and stable at the same time. One thing I will ad is my 3500 handled EMI better then my 5K which pissed me off to be honest. Ok back to modded 45's... I met a couple up at Kondoparinga Station who had a modded 45 done in VIC & it was a disaster, it couldn't be used unless it was in enhance. Not sure what was wrong with it but old mate was very disappointed to say the least. I believe it was going back to be fixed for a 2nd time!!. I love my 5K & in my opinion it doesn't need modding at all, especially when it consistently finds gold. Only upgrade now is a 6K or a good 2nd hand Zed. I find way more little nuggets then bigger bits.. so the 6K is looking pretty good right now.

  2. I recently read an article regarding 5G tech & how global warehouses use robotics to run the whole show, with efficiency of logistics being 5 times faster then people running it. I think this will be the same for the 6K regarding settings you would normally have to adjust on the run over & over again to keep your detector in optimal settings & running smoothly. It seems the 6K will be able to manage this much faster with way more precision then any operator could. I might have talked my self into buying one 🤫

It looks very simple to operate - the instruction manual will be a lot smaller than the GPX5000 and GPZ7000.

I always wondered why 5 years ago when ML launched the GPZ they jumped from 5000 to 7000. Looks like they have always planned to update the GPX with the 6000 - so looks like the boffins at ML have been working on the GPX6000 for some time.

Agreed, 10+ years is a long time for a new gpx considering how fast technology is evolving & for Minelab to drop another gpx into the mix, it has to be something real special. Taking a look at the performance graph Minelab have put out there comparing the GM, Sdc, 5000 & the 6000 that is a pretty bold statement for the 6000. The GPZ is missing from that graph, but when considering 5000 wasn't that far behind the Zed with the right coil combination the 6K sounds fantastic. If the 6k handles EMI & hot ground better than the Zed.... that's good enough for me up here in the tropics!

  4. That's an excellent bit of info you shared, I was wondering how the new ground balance was going to handle more challenging dirt. As we all know hot rocks can really upset VLF detectors to the point you're not finding any gold. Any improvements for cancelling out mineralisation with a VLF is very much welcomed. sounds like the 24k is providing some good results so far.

  5. Very detailed review I've been waiting for this, thanks Steve. I think all high end VLF detectors are hard to separate when it comes to pulling tiny nuggets. For me, it's how one detector can handle highly mineralised ground and hot rocks over another. I love my sdc2300 but would like a good VLF detector also & now with so many improvements lately from Makro, Whites. Minelab etc.. It's not an easy choice to make. That said I'm liking reports coming in for the Gold Kruzer, I may have to wait until some of my fellow Aussies chime in to see if it will be good enough for our conditions.
