  1. You may not have noticed but my Sovereign has the In-Sight target ID meter mounted where the speaker used to be. No one has probably loved and respected the Sovereigns as much as I and I have done well with them. Years ago, I invented, manufactured and sold the Patriot Target A.I.M. and In-Sight ID meters for the Sovereigns. As I am now an older detectorist comfort is very important to me and if you have not tried a totally wireless detector you cannot appreciate the world of difference in comfort. There is no going back for me now.

  2. Good tips guys but I have always used my Sovereign hip-mounted. I started using one soon after its introduction in the early 1990's and kept using one up until the last few years when I switched over to a completely wireless detector. That detector has now "spoiled" me with its lightweight ergonomic design, versatility and high performance. The Sovereign found me plenty over the years and was/is an excellent performing metal detector. Even hip-mounted, with its weight, bulk, strap and wires it is still very cumbersome compared to my new completely wireless featherweight metal detector. There is no going back for me. Technology marches on!

  3. I had one a few years ago and used it occasionally at very trashy park locations. Yes it could find stuff amongst the trash but at very shallow depths. It is a very stable detector once setup correctly and the audio is also very good. No way can it match today's detectors but it still can unmask extremely well in trashy sites.

  4. Up for sale is my beloved original model Minelab Sovereign metal detector. I have used various model Sovereigns since their introduction and all have worked extremely well for coin, relic and beach metal detecting. It is without doubt what I consider to be one of the best and most productive metal detectors that I have ever used. Now as I am getting older and having some health issues I have moved on to a very lightweight metal detector.

Below are the items that I am now offering for sale. I have taken very good care of my detecting equipment as you will notice. Shipping and insurance is extra on all items. 5. So many variables so who knows? One of the things I like about my D2 is its very stable and repeatable visual target identification. Perhaps it's my settings or mode or the mineralization but I have no complaints in the regard of target ID.

I am not really a jewelry hunter but mostly coins and relics. Coin ID is mostly excellent on the ID meter display. I can almost always tell when I have sensed a coin based on the excellent VDI. Each metal detector has its own unique characteristics. Learning them is a big part in becoming successful with it.

  6. Having used most metal detector makes and models over the years Tesoro detectors still have a place in my detecting arsenal.

I have always liked and respected their simplistic operation long reliability and the fact that they just plain work. It was a sorry day for me when the company closed up shop. I now own only one of their models... a Bandido II uMAX. Over the years I have owned and used most of their models going back to the company's beginnings. As I have said many times ALL Tesoros are good metal detectors and I am certain many detectorists would agree with me. They feature good discrimination and strong audio plus much more. I would not and do not hesitate in using one even today and often still do. Rest in peace Jack for you and Tesoro remain well-respected and legendary to me and many others!

  7. I have a lot of history using a Sovereign and can honestly say that it is one of the best and most productive metal detectors that I have ever used. I am getting older now and also have some health issues so I have reluctantly moved on to a very lightweight metal detector. I am quite happy with it but I do miss the audio and some other features of the Sovereign. How I wish that Minelab would have repackaged the original Sovereign making it lighter in weight and more ergonomic without changing its audio and operational characteristics too much.

I will probably be selling my trusty Sovereign soon as it is now more difficult for me to swing and use all day. Age catches up to you. 🙂

  8. I used a Vanquish 540 for about a year... I have six detectors. I did well with it and liked most of what it provided except of course for the red color and high battery drain. I solved the battery drain buy purchasing an RNB battery pack and I "solved" the red color with a black rain cover. My detecting buddy also used a 540 at that time and did extremely well with it. In fact he now owns a detector at twice its price and often states that he would oftentimes prefer using the 540 instead.

  9. I agree that the Apex design and control housing size and style are extremely well done. I hope that Garrett sticks with it. I too would prefer black or camo color and an infinitely  adjustable pole length. For its price, you get a lot. I can't wait to see their new "Storm" detector.

  10. According to Nokta's website optional and smaller search coils are available for the FINDX and FINDX PRO metal detectors. Go to Nokta's website and look at their various search coil options. Of course buying an optional search coil would add to the price of these detectors. I would like to see Nokta offer the buyer the choice to select which search coil comes with these detectors or at least offer two or three variations even if the price changes slightly. I would love to be able to order one with Nokta's Waterproof DD Search Coil - 24x15 cm / 9.5"x6" (SX24).

  11. palzynski - Yes I agree about the 9" search coil option. I have never been a fan of big coils and very much prefer a smaller 8" or 9" for everyday use. Ellipticals are my favorite style with a 5"x10" or so being just about right for me. I am very impressed with the Nokta FindX and feel that it delivers a lot for its very reasonable price. I plan to buy one but would buy it sooner if I could get it with one of the above mentioned coils instead of the larger 11".
