I also hope we don’t have to wait 3 more years for Coiltek coils for the Manticore like we had to wait for the Nox.  I don’t know if ML realizes it or not (which makes me question their overall consumer business model savvy if they don’t), but simply striking a licensing deal for the embedded coil interface electronics with Coiltek for accessory coils in manner that enables Coiltek to release accessory coils for M-core in a time frame similar to or even faster than ML’s spool up of their own M-core accessory coils could actually tilt fence sitters into purchasing an M-core without ML having to invest any additional capital.  Their track record of aloof behavior with respect to accessory coil options and availability from a customer demand perspective makes them appear to be blind to this fact.  And I’m not just talking small circular coils, but an elliptical slightly bigger than what is presently envisioned would be welcomed by non-prospecting users to fill the remaining gap between the stock and the planned ML 8x5.5.  A solid coil body or skid plate variant option would also be welcomed.

    THIS.

Yo, Minelab.  Here's that "clue" you've been searching for; maybe you should "get it".

Seeded hunt leaves it a little too wide open for advice.  Can you provide more details?

High conductors only or all types of conductors?

Relics or coins or both?   Will they be using tokens for prizes?  What are the tokens made of?

Are the targets buried or hidden in the grass or sand?  Are natural targets expected?

As mentioned above, what are the soil conditions?

Is the field wide open or a small patch where you will be tripping over other detectorists and subject to detector EMI?

All these factors can help people give you the best setup advice.

In general, unless you are going for natural targets too, the seeded targets are not generally deep or even on the surface.  You can lower your sensitivity settings so that you are less subject to adjacent detector EMI and also so your detector will be less likely to hit on deeper junk targets.

If the hunt is limited solely to silver high conductors, you can notch out everything up to the 90's and just dig anything that beeps.  In that case, I like to use pitch tones.  That way you get more modulation when you are swinging directly over the target and don't have to rely so much on pinpointing.

Work on optimizing your recovery routine.  Recovery is the most time consuming part of the process and the less time you spend swinging your coil, the fewer targets you will recover.

There will be coins and tokens, no relics.  Mid, low and high conductors, though I really dont care if I miss mids and lows (but they'll be combined in a hunt separate from high conductors anyway)  Tokens will be aluminum xp tokens. Targets might be tossed on grass, or buried 1-3" deep.  Ground is super dry around here.

The mineralization is not overly high, it typically ground balances at around 87 on the D2.  Natural targets will be rather sparse, the area has been hunted/cleared fairly well.  Most fields will have fair amount of space for detectorists to avoid each other, but naturally you cross paths sooner or later.

One hunt will be strictly silver.  I use the wiggle back method to pinpoint targets, so how does pitch mode work then?  Seems like it wouldnt help any since Im not pinpointing in the center of the coil? (I havent used pitch mode much)

  3. I'm new to the Deus platform and have near 100 hours on the D2 with the 11" coil. I'm thinking of using it for a seeded hunt coming up and wanted to get some suggestions for settings. What mode would you suggest? What reactivity level? What sensitivity level as the targets will be tossed on ground or buried maybe 2" deep. Any other settings adjustments you would recommend? Thanks!

That doesn't surprise me a bit.  It's sad that people enjoy that crap and that people got paid to do it.

I dont think anyone got paid to do it, it was more for the fun, prestige, or whatever with being part of the background of creating that episode.  No personal rewards, other than the mental ones for being part of it.  I guess like helping out on an archeological hunt where you get to participate on a really cool historic site, but dont get to keep anything

  5. The 15" coil definitely doesnt get the credit it deserves.  Everyone wants to talk about the 6", but the 15 performs superbly.  It separates well and you wont believe the tiny targets you find, and at depth too.  .22 casings and slugs are no problem at 6 inches or more. It does make the Nox fairly nose heavy though, which is its main drawback, but a well known custom shaft maker makes a shaft with a counter balance on the end to deal with that issue if it is too much to handle.

Congrats on the SLQ, that ones a very rare find in that condition.

  6. I had a friend that participated in the filming of an episode of Diggers and apparently the site was hunted by multiple detectorists to find some good finds, and then they were planted for the "stars" of the show to find.  Which kinda makes sense.  Think about it - its expensive to have all the supporting crew and the logistics to produce a television show.  And you need to make it exciting; who wants to watch a half hour episode of finding pull tabs.   As detectorists, you know from experience how long it can take to find an actual "good" target.  And these guys did it every time in just half an hour?  It takes many hours to find something good and that time frame can be drastically decreased by multiple people searching an area until a few good finds are made.  It was more interesting to hear the side history of an area or about the find they made, than it was to watch their silly shenanigans and freakin out like they just found the Holy Grail.  But again, gotta make it "Exciting"!

  7. Ahh, "beginners luck"!  Funny how some people just get out there, make a killer find and think its an everyday thing!  Having a significant other detect with you is a plus/minus thing; sometimes its a good thing, other times its a negative.  For example, we're talking to someone to try and gain a permission and she'll sidetrack the conversation away from where/how I wanted the conversation to go.  Everybody has their own methods and they dont always agree!  But, I will say on the positive side, I have many times ended up gaining a nice find because even though I was pretty much ready to quit for the day, she said she wanted to keep on detecting, or go check out another spot I mentioned, so we went and I ended up with a nice find.  Overall, its a positive thing, far better than having one who tries to stop you from detecting!

  8. The ole "lift the coil" trick can be a double edged sword, as you almost found out.  Plenty of people have left behind big coins (silver or not) because they thought it "sounded too big".  If your mind is making you the least bit curious about a target for some reason you cant quite decipher - listen to your intuition and dig that puppy!  Theres conscious competency where you can mentally understand and explain something and theres unconscious competency, where you know how to do something, but cant really explain it, you just "know" without understanding it enough to explain why.  Call it a gut feeling, intuition or whatever.  If your mind is telling you to dig, trust it and who cares if you can explain what it is about that sound that made you curious.
