  1. Honestly the M9 seems like a one trick pony to me, especially if you already have the M8 and M11. Unless you are a water hunter, or they plan on selling a Manticore configured with just the M9 in the box... otherwise it seems like an odd size for Minelab to fill coil gaps in the product line. Seems like something they could have let Coiltek produce....? But... hey... I am a water hunter so who knows, I might end up with one at some point... haha

Hi folks forgive me if this has been talked about, I'm new to the forum. I have had the Manticore for 6 months now, one I have noticed is that I do not find Clad any longer, is there a program I can set up? Thanks

Location... location... location! About any stock program should definitely find clad unless you have discriminated about everything out or have the sensitivity way too low. Assuming that's not the case... you just need to make sure you're swinging over ground that has clad in it! 😉

I heard rumors that Chuck is going to start making Stealth scoops again. Hope it's true as I've had no success in contacting the outfit in Ca that was the last manufacturer of them.

Yes... Chuck has confirmed he is getting back into the scoop business.

From Chuck (Owl Engineering) himself on a different forum... "I am back with what I think is THE game changer of them all. My proto-types are done and will be testing them in Brasil starting next week. I expect the reveal to be this July or August."

I asked if they were actually "in stock" all I heard yes, I got a few blah blah.... I literally interrupted him and said "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!"

Shout out to AZ's Robs Detectors

I talked to Rob yesterday and he has some more M8's in.... if you want one... HURRY!

Hoping the 15 doesn't add a whole bunch of resistance in the water.

Me too! I don't imagine it will be the ideal choice for exclusive water hunting but should be similar to the 15" on the Nox which was usable for occasional forays into the water at least. My M15 should be landing on my porch early next we so we will find out soon! 😉

It will be interesting to see if it boosts Minelab profits or reduces sales so much that it adds nothing to the bottom line.

I'm thinking it will be option #2 Steve! Minelab pricing for the most part is already on the upper end of comparable equipment from competitors... if they wanted to give someone a very good reason to look elsewhere for equipment (looking at you Deus & Nokta!) then this rumored hefty price increase might just be the excuse to do it! I really have an incredibly hard time understanding why Codan / Minelab does anything the way they do... from outward appearances it simply seems to be a horrific way to run a company! They seem to have a good group of product engineers and developers but downstream from there it goes seriously sideways with that company!

Holy crap, $379 AUD for the small one and $499 AUD for the large one, they're taking us for a ride.

Introducing the Minelab Manticore M15 - 15" Metal Detector Coil
    PRE-ORDER NOW! $200 deposit -  RRP Confirmed at $499

Introducing the Minelab Manticore M8 - 8" Metal Detector Coil
    PRE-ORDER NOW! $100 deposit -  RRP Confirmed at $379

Holy crap is right! I'm definitely not one to pinch pennies in my hobbies for sure but if true that price seems excessive to say the least. Might be slightly more palatable if it included a lower shaft for that price but we know that's not the case. As much as I would love the M15 to beach hunt I might have to sit back for a while and wait for Minelab to figure out that people aren't buying them at that kind of premium.

To be honest I don't care to spend over $300.00 on the M8. I may not get one right off the bat. I don't use small coils that often. If I find I need a small coil I'll just use my 800 with the Coiltek 10"x5" for the time being.

I'm in exactly the same boat! I spend the majority of my time on the beach so I will be jumping on the 15" for my Manticore for that but I have the Coiltek 5"x10" sorta permanent like on my Nox800 for when I want to hit an urban park or something similar.

  9. Hot off the press and available NOW!

    WHAT IS NEW?

    1. Stabiliser Setting: A new Stabiliser feature has been added to All Terrain Search Modes, significantly enhancing useability in iron trash. It improves the overall stability of the audio and Target IDs at sites where iron falsing may be experienced, and adds nuance to better distinguish good targets from iron. Adjust from 0 to 12 and make false detections a thing of the past.
    2. Enhanced Goldfield Search Mode: Take advantage of greater sensitivity to small gold with the power of MANTICORE.
    3. Soft Key Shortcuts: Take charge of MANTICORE with soft key shortcut functions added to control Search Mode, Flashlight, Display Brightness, Sensitivity Boost, Clear ID Map, Speaker Mute, Recovery Speed, and Frequency.
    4. Customisable Ferrous Target ID: Make it personal by highlighting Ferrous Target IDs in red.
    5. Underwater Headphone Boost: Enhanced audio awaits with Underwater Boost to increase headphone volume when using Minelab Waterproof Accessory Headphones (sold separately).
    6. Language Customisation: Access the user interface in your choice of language from English, French, German, Czech, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Hindi.
    7. General Stability Enhancements: Including improvements to Beach Mode Ground balance on dry sand, Search Mode default settings, wireless audio connection stability improvements and more.

  10. In this one... he found 5 in one day! 😳

Just out of curiosity I looked it up and the melting point of gold is 1948 degrees Fahrenheit. Cremation temperatures range between 1400 and 1800 degrees Fahrenheit (for about two or three hours)

  11. He (Pirate Mike) found another one a couple days later. Not an extremely uncommon find in our area (SoCal). A bit gruesome but from scattered remains of cremated loved ones... but hey... gold is gold and if I don't pick it up someone else will.

Is the Manticore proving out to be good for both  relic & coin hunting?-----When is the 8"X5.5"coil coming out for it?

I'll let others respond to the relic/coin hunting question... I've only had mine at the beach. I can say it's looking like the Manticore has the potential to be a very good beach machine!

As for the optional coils... no formal announcement from Minelab yet but I do know the 15" at least has been in testers hands for a bit so fingers crossed we get an announcement from Minelab before too long.

I have been reading all the discussion about an upcoming MCore update; but as a new Minelab user, I am more interested in long term support.

How have Nox updates been?  Does anyone know how long the MCore will remain in active software development with Minelab before being put on the back burner for new machine development?  Nokta Macro has been quick with updates, but Minelab seems to move so slow.

What is everyone’s opinion of how the Manticore will be supported after the upcoming software release?

My Equinox 800 had 2 subsequent updates after the initial release I believe. Obviously they won't have any more for the 600/800 since they now would prefer you purchase a new 700/900. Just seeing the way Minelab has operated the past few years I suspect there will be an update or two forthcoming for the Manticore in the next couple years but I would be extremely surprised if it was more than that. Minelab definitely isn't Nokta! 🙂

Me too... paid for mine last October... still waiting! 😕

So today was the day. Almost exactly 6 months after paying for my Manticore I got the email today... it's shipping!!! Fingers crossed it gets to me by the weekend but regardless... excited it's finally actually on its way! 🙂

  15. I reiterate what most others have said. I'm primarily a beach hunter in a competitive area and the 15" is my standard beach set-up on my Nox 800 (while I'm still waiting for my Manticore!). I'm probably 80% on the dry/wet sand and about 20% in the shallow surf. The additional coverage is the primary advantage to me but I do think it's a little deeper than the 11", and it's definitely plenty sensitive to small targets. No doubt it is a heavier coil if you're sensitive to that, or hunt for extended amounts of time. I mitigated the additional weight by getting Steve's detector rod with a counterweight which balances the 15" so much better...I don't have any issues swinging it for 6-7+ hours. I love my 15" and definitely recommend it but your milage may vary depending on where, how and what you hunt.

If Minelab and the distributors would have sent this many to each dealer mostly all the pre-orders would have been filled. Cabela's should get some detectors but for Minelab to give the almost 90% of distribution seems pretty unfair. I know most dealers are getting less then 10..sometimes even less then 5.

My dealer got 3 units last MONTH and they aren't exactly a small garage dealer either. Still waiting on mine that I bought and paid for LAST OCTOBER but I was told I'm #3 on the list now so hopefully soon. I haven't heard a peep from Minelab about accessory coils or lower shafts either... might be Christmas before we can get our hands on those. Not my first Minelab machine... I mostly love their engineering and tech... but this entire roll-out debacle will make me think twice before I buy anything from Minelab again and I know I'm not the only one saying that. About every major competitor of theirs simply runs their company better!

I know it's a bit early to be looking for coin IDs, but I can't help myself.  If you create your own chart or find one, we could insert them here for reference.

I have a feeling this will be complicated because different modes seem to shift the scale, and I don't know if its a consistent shift up or down the whole range?

I have seen some testing and the wide scale of VID on the Manticore means most coins have have a 2 or 3 number variation for a specific mintage and of course it changes with different series of the coin.

The chart below is a start, but where is an indian, compared to a wheat and so on.

It would be really nice if someone had some gold coins to test so I have something to dream about.

Air tests so not super scientific but this vid will give you some ballpark numbers...

Here is a Manticore park hunt video.  This guy seems to be just learning TID's so I'm guessing he is NOT a Minelab tester, yet he has a Manticore in hand!

I do believe he is a tester. In one of his previous Manticore vids he mentioned that he's been using a Manticore for a couple months. Almost certain he was also a NM Legend tester as well.
