First, thanks to all the contributors here that provide so much knowledge for this great hobby.

I am curious about how much performance improvement can be achieved by software updates to the dectector.
For example, if I have understood some of the posts here, the Manticore may not perform as well as hoped in hot ground, iron-rich environments, and perhaps not as sensitive to small gold as one might have expected coming from an Equinox platform.

Does anyone have an idea of how much improvement to any of those concerns could be addressed just by updating the software?

Or is it just the nature of the hardware and software might give a marginal-but-not-spectacular benefit?

    Thanks everyone!

    -Scott

I'm using the manticore myself and have found gold 3 timed the last piece was only 12 on the VDI it all depends on the ct and size of the gold object, also I've had Roman Celtic and hammered, one Edward 1st farthing a tiny coin was 10.5" deep, dig every signal until you know what the machine is telling you, when they say the manticore is 50% more powerful what it means in my experience is it will find smaller objects deeper than other machines, I've also got the deus 2 and on small targets the manticore is definitely deeper, the only complaint if you can call it that is the headphones are not even shower resistant. This is a tiny minim on a small toilet roll square that's on the paper design 6" down yesterday

  2. They've been promising to give us a update for the xp deus 2 the software version I'm still using since June 2022 is 0.71 issue's are clock will not keep time, ground balance doesn't work properly if at all, and EMI issue even after noise cancelling, No problem with depth, but xp deus have been saying they are working on a update, does anyone know if they are bringing out a update or are they just saying that?

Xp are taking their time bringing a new software version.

I phoned Regtons and spoke to either Marcus or Nigel, I explained the issue and was told xp are aware of the issue and know many of us are having the issue,  then he said xp engineers are busy trying to sort the issue in a new software update,  that was 2 months ago!!

My clock seems to keep perfect time. 0.71 update. Just checked it and all is good. Guess I’m just lucky.

I know it sounds insignificant but I'm a Carer so my time is limited, being able to look at the screen for the was great, now I have to stop and pull my sleave up.

I admit to being somewhat  reserved about jumping right in to the latest update, but this morning, I decided to try it on my secondary Deus 2 that I’ve christened the “Test Dummy.”
After following the exact sequence as shown on the XP update screen for a flawless installation, I added all custom programs back in and ran it through my test garden.  Everything worked as designed…..smooth with no glitches!
The final “real world” test will be Sunday evening at Cocoa Beach…dry, damp and wet sand and surf.  If all goes well, as I fully expect, I’ll update my primary Deus 2 and that of my hunting buddy's.
My advice to those similarly reluctant souls would be to follow the exact procedure on the XP update screen and you should be fine….no shortcuts or deviation. 😊

The only glitch I have noticed on the 0.71 software is the clock is all over the place, even if I set it before I go out its either gained or lost a couple of hours, I know why now it's a time machine!! Lol

  6. I've updated the software version to 0.71 on my deus, since doing this the clock loses or gains time, I know this sounds trivial but I'm a carer and my time is important, if I set the click after I turn it on it still loses time, also its a bit more prone to EMI interference than it was on previous software versions, if I could go back to the original software when I bought it in January I would it was a lot deeper on that version and kept the right time, is anyone else having the same issue?

Does your clock keep the right time? Mine doesn't on 0.71 I know it doesn't seem important but I'm a carer and being able to look at the screen is a lot quicker than having to stop and pull my sleeve up.

I've just reflashed the software version 0.71, I've been told by some people that it worked properly after they reflashed theirs, si hopefully when I turn it on tomorrow its kept the right time.

Well what can I say after reflashing my deus 2 with 0.71 firmware twice to make sure its back to normal everything working as it should including the clock, had a few hours out today had a Edward 4th groat Bristol mint another hammered that needs soaking for a few days and a 1921 sixpence, Carolina thank you so much.

Welcome Mike, awesome story feature about that find from BBC.  Are there any display images of the chariot collection available to view by the public? What a tremendous and important find that was!

Not as yet, its only just gone through the coroner hearing about a month ago now it's got to be valued, then if we agree they have to raise the money.

Can you not change the clock to the proper time?  Or are you saying it keeps changing the time on you? This was doable on the deus 1. To access the clock it’s in the options menu. I have not tried it yet with deus 2

    strickl

I've got to set the clock every time I switch my deus 2 on, and even then when I'm out it will display the wrong time, this has happened since I updated to 0.71 before that it was fine.

  13. Hi everyone, I've got the Xp deus 2 brilliant machine, ive found lots of hammered coins Roman Artifacts coins and late Georgian early victorian gold mourning brooch, im.a Carer for my wife who is seriously ill and since updating to 0.71 my clock doesn't keep the right time, I know this sounds trivial, but looking at the screen to check what time it is so I know when I have to head home is important, having to stop and pull up your sleeve with dirty hands is annoying to say the least, does anyone know when or if Xp are going to release another update to rectify this issue. I'm not a beginner ive been detecting for 45 years and I'm the finder of the Celtic Chieftain chariot burial found in Pembrokeshire wales.
