I went out for two days in the NV desert to use my new Axiom. I played with the setting for the first day trying to figure out the machine and what it was telling me.  By the end of the day I was running a negative threshold.
Day two I spent the morning in an area that looked promising. Tons of quartz and thermally altered schist with veins of quartz mixed in.  This area was absolutely silent except for a 22 bullet down about six inches.
I decided to give Rye Patch district a go on the way home.  The Axiom ran so quiet in the morning I thought I was way off on what I was doing. At Rye Patch I started picking up minuscule bits or iron. I was also finding tiny fragments of bullets. I met a fellow detectorist while I was there. He was using the 6000, a 4500 I think, and a goldmonster. Preferring the 4500 over the 6000 which he said was giving to much feedback with the underlying clays being so wet.
Since I was finding so many little fragments and bits I knew the machine was working as it should. When I found a target I would scrape the top 1-2" and check to see if it moved. Most of the little bits were surface. A few troublesome pieces of wire were 4" down.
It was getting late and I was still working on the skunk. I was headed back to the truck and got a nice hi low sound that gave a similar result when I turned on it. I scratched off two inches and it sounded better. Went to 4" and it sounded better. At 4" I was hitting some rocks. I pried the first one out and poked the nose of the coil in the hole. The sound was so good. I pried the second rock out and stuck the coil in the hole. Nothing. Checked the rock and it's a fantastic signal. I scraped the clay off the rock and ran that glob over the coil. I had it. My first nugget ever!

    Update of first impression.

The Axiom battery seems like it will run forever.  It dropped 1 bar day one and 1 bar day two.  I did re-charge it overnight.

The arm cuff felt tight the first night I tried it but it flexed into a good fit.

The Zlink headphones will drop out if not positioned properly.

The settings I settled were 7 and -7.  Very little ground noise.

Being german, I've found quite some 8k gold, but luckily not as much as 14k or higher 😄
I just happened to find one last week. See one of my last Deus 2 posts.

8k can really look tarnished.. I once found a ring that looked so bad, I initially thought it's silver.
Turned out it was 333 - found it on 15.09 and it had written 15.09 in it (wedding band) - it wanted to be found!

When I light it up it's glows and I can see through. I found the object on a hill, it wasn't lying but was a bit in the ground.

Definitely, I've located an old apartment site where only the slabs remain. Aerial photos show it was there in '48 and gone in '81. It appears to be on county property. I'm out in the Foothills and go to AmVets on occasion. Also, there are a few old silver mines that I want to investigate. One next to Adair Gun Range and several off Imperial Dam Road. My schedule is busy the next few weeks with HS starting (Instructor at one of the HS). I'll post when it looks like I have some time.

Sounds good. Hope to meet you one day, when its cooler

    KD0TS here.

We are in the Congress area just North of Wickenburg.

You might do a search on line for prospecting clubs close to where you are. Usually some others close to you are looking for someone to go with you/them.

I do belong to the Roadrunners prospectors club. They have claims all over. A little pricey but a decent group.

    nice to meet you

There is also the Gold Prospectors Association of Phoenix. I'm not a member but, did meet some of them at the last Camelback Coin Show.  The next show is August 13th. I'm planning on attending. Need to add more Morgan's to my collection. Which reminds me, I need to show off some of the coins found metal detecting out at Fortuna Mine. That was back in the early 70's. Can't do it now since it is within the Barry Goldwater Reserve. One of which is an 1883 'O' Morgan.

Yeah, Phoenix is 178 miles away, im trying to create a local group

  7. Im up for some digging and detecting in the Yuma Area come cooler weather, gotta be enough of us around this region to at least get together and BS at the AmVets or somewhere and share stories over Ice Tea or what ever....  Lets get some guys together, im not greedy, just want to have fun with fellow 49'ers. Lets get a group started here and hit the dirt guys.  its safer in numbers with all the snakes and heat than alone.. What say everyone ??  Still lots of gold out there
