  1. Thanks.  I'm not sure I have the cable that came with it (might have repurposed it LOL)  - I'll get a replacement and try that...meanwhile I basically use the remote controller 100% and the WS6 is really just for my headphones - so I am updated with the controller...

  2. Hi.  Thanks for taking the time to comment.  USB ports are 2 and 3 - I checked multiple ports.  I have a single cable cord that I used - it charges the WS6 fine.  I'll try to find another cable with that old school connector - all the new one's I have are the micro size...

  3. Hi. I just updated my remote from 6 to .71 - all good.

Then i tried to update a fully charged WS6. When I get to the Update screen it goes "dim" and never starts the update. I'm using the single USB cord and a correct and working port on my computer. The cord charges the WS6 fine. Any help would be appreciated?  Yes I'm on the WS6 side in the software.

  4. Shawn Pomrenke came along to the beach for the ride.

Third time out - rang up a solid 46.  About 2 scoops with my 9" scooper.

    Stamped Italy 14K - 4.5 grams....NICE!!!!

Beach SENS.  Sens@97 stable as shit.  Disc 0 - less false spill over - you hear the iron.  Reactivity .5.  Salt 8.  Iron vol 3.  Audio Resp 7.

Will play with pitch for the iron - make it lower...

That's good, but my point #1 concerns the minimum bend radius of the cable (avoiding kinking) -- my bad for not making that clear -- and this occurring when the toe of the coil housing reaches one extreme and touches the shaft.

The antenna cable is somewhat like headhone cable.  I just rotated the coil all the way flat and then 90 degree straight up - the cable hardly even moved.  I really see zero issues.

It's the same thing when you have a wired coil - you leave some room in the cable for the coil to rotate...

It makes you wonder if it's so simple to do, and obviously beneficial why didn't XP do it, it surely can't be they didn't think of it.

    1.  It is possible they didn't think of it.

    2. They used many of the tooling from the Deus 1 - and they didn't even have an antenna for that - you had to make your own.

    3. When I take it out to the beach - I'll see if there are any issues - if so, no problem to just go back to the wrap around...

The CTX 3030 ran it's coil cable up into the shaft in a similar way, and it became a wear point for the coil cable with quite a number of coils failing from the cables at the entry point down near the bottom of the shaft causing wear to the cables insulation and even broken wires inside the cable at that point.  As a workaround people were putting tape around the bottom of the coil cable to give it a bit of extra protection.  This mod may cause the same sort of wear over time to the antenna cable, so perhaps something might be required to toughen up the cable in that spot.

I just played around with the bottom - the way it feeds up the lower shaft - it doesn't touch the sides of the hollow shaft opening - I really don't see any issues...and...it's a cheap replacement if needed it has nothing to do with the coil...

Looks great Barry! I seen a few in the Uk did the same, my question.. will it affect the warranty?

One reason I was considering making another shaft for it. I hate anything that may snag in the seaweed or get hooked on something. I'm still on hold till late summer so plenty of time to watch others and learn.

I didn't see that...I think some of the UK boys copied me as soon as they saw it posted on the FB forums...

I like garage mods, particularly when they look professional, as this.  But a couple concerns:

    1) How much stress on the cable occurs when the coil is rotated such that the toe of the coil touches the shaft?

    2) I would use a rat tail file to both remove the sharp edge and elongate (make elliptical) that hole in the first picture to reduce stress concentration at the contact zone between housing and cable.

Hope it works for you (and other water detectorists).

    1. The cable has the ability to get longer by pulling it out or shorter by pushing it in - no problem there.

    2. Good point - but it really isn't moving much if at all - also the cable insulator is pretty solid.  I'm thinking a dab of hot glue in that hole to isolate movement and keep water out solves everything...

Joe - that's a separate little piece - so it's replaceable.  The antenna wire is no different than a wired coil cable relative to snagging...right?

That's perfect. I get mine later this week and will do the same thing since mine will be an underwater detector. Any tips you can provide? Did the end caps come off easily? What size hole did you drill? Thanks in advance!

Hey Matt.  I didn't cut the cable - I looped it up the lower shaft, then down then up again to get rid of the slack.  Then I pulled it up thru the upper shaft.  That top connector piece comes off with 2 tiny screws one on each side.  I clamped it down and drilled starting with a very small bit and worked my way up to 1/4".

The only "tricky" part is feeding that straight plastic end piece thru the hole because there's very little angle to work with.  I carefully curved the plastic end piece (bananaish) then attached some scotch tape to make a lead.  I was able to pull the tape thru the hole and get the plastic piece to just barely protrude.  I took needle nose pliers and while pushing the cable up I carefully was able to work it thru the hole.

There is no integrity failure to that piece to worry about...

Nice, I would put a rubber grommet in the hole as well.

I may just put a dab of hot glue on the hole...and lock the cable in place...i'll see after I get it out there...

Suffering right now with a degenerated disc - pain/numbness down my left leg.

On steroids should get some relief soon...

I tricked it out with electrical tape - they should have used a black cable.

You’ve still got to walk over it to find it. My friend has the 2 and compared it to my 1. Slightly deeper and the signals were clearer but we still more or less dug the same. There’s no magic machine out there. They are all good. Just get some good land.

Amen...location location location.  The only reason to get a Deus 2 is for salt water.  The Deus 1 pretty much does everything you want.  I'm almost 10 years in on the Deus 1...

I am starting to think the main goal with D2 was saltwater. XP already has machines aimed at dry land coin and relic (Deus 1), and a gold nugget detector (ORX). To expand the line, beach was the obvious weak spot, and marketing says cannibalizing existing product sales is a bad idea. Multifrequency has long been considered better than single frequency in a salt environment. And the Deus 2 being designed for up to 60 foot immersion screams water detector. That, and all the photo emphasis on the website showing underwater use.

I sold detectors for decades. Here is the discussion I want to have. Person says they want detector, I say “what for” - what is the primary goal? Most machines are multipurpose now, but what’s your main interest?

If it’s coins and relics I’ll probably say get a Deus 1. If it’s gold prospecting, I’ll probably say get the ORX. And salt water beaches, then get the Deus 2. Simple, makes sense, a salesperson would love it.

We could talk about D1 vs D2 for coins and relics, but I’d point out the D1 is a better price, way more coil options, and a proven winner. Or, if you are the sort who wants the latest toy, and I’d know fast, I’d shift you to the D2 instead.

Long story short, if your product line is missing key categories, it makes more sense to fill that empty slot, then to replace something you already have. Once a company fills all the slots, then upgrading old models in a round robin fashion becomes the norm, as with Minelab at this point. Newer companies like Nokta/Makro and XP are still filling out the lineup. And let’s face it, in underwater, Minelab has pretty much owned it as of late, with almost nobody running an XP at the beach. I think they wanted that to change.

    To sum up:

Deus 1 = coin and relic, also good for gold prospecting, and non-salt jewelry

ORX = gold prospecting, also good for coin and relic, and non-salt jewelry

Deus 2 = saltwater jewelry, also good for coin and relic, gold prospecting

Anyway, just my morning coffee thought for the day, that’s all. Don’t take it for more than that.

Steve - As always you are spot on...salt water detecting is the main and for me the only reason to get a Deus 2 (if you already have a Deus 1).

I've owned a Deus since they first came out - it was $2,500 for the full kit in 2012...luckily Minelab (Gary) bought it for me to give them my feedback...

I used that for my colonial era farm fields and the few trips to the UK - it blew away the E-Trac in those environments mostly the ergonomics and speed.

For the beach - I had the Excal - a heavy slow recovery beast that I could only use hip mounted.

I then picked up a EQ 600 to replace the Excal, and, even tho I scored a 28 gram gold chain on my second outing - I don't really care for it that much.

Now - the D2 is the best of both worlds...that's for me in my conditions...

It’s funny you brought this up because I was thinking the same thing today. Maybe they  are trying to get into the beach and water hunting now. One of my concerns is the underwater antenna...I detect in brackish water a lot and often the coil on my machines have a couple pounds of grass stuck to the coil and I wonder how well that will play with the antenna coming loose.

    Strick

The elastic O ring they give you to hold it on won't last long.  It wraps around and goes across the bottom - rubbing that will destroy it in a few outings.  Use a zip tie - bullet proof...
