  1. Click on the big green "M".  On the next screen in the upper left you will see the big green "M" again.  There should be an icon showing on the lower left of the "M".  Click on that and you will be able to upload your picture.

Let us know if you are still having problems.

  2. Call the folks at "metaldetector.com".  Ask for Bill Ladd, he has helped me twice with Makro problems.  One being the Gold Racer.  He/They get problems corrected pretty quickly.  It's possible they will be familiar with your problem and get it corrected even faster.

They are the USA distributor for Makro and the repair center for the USA.  Good luck.

  3. I'm also having problems with my Gold Racer.  It tested out fine at home when I first received it.  Got out the first time this week to the gold fields in N. California.  Ground balanced, then immediately started chattering.  This is in the All Metal mode.  Held the coil steady at waist height.  Still chattering and displaying ID numbers as if I was moving the coil over trashy ground.

Tried the 5" coil, same thing.   Tried all shorts of on screen adjustments including all the different frequency levels.  No change.  Got my Racer 2 out, it worked fine in All Metal, so not the environment.  Did this at several different sites miles apart, including back at home.

Will be calling Detector Electronics first thing tomorrow.  I know they will get it corrected, just disappointing results after making a long trip.  I also wish I would have kept the GB2 as a backup.  But as seldom as I can get out, it made more sense to sell it.  Wrong again.

  4. Try turning it off and back on while still at the hot dirt.  Ground balance again, then try it.  Might also want to try a factory reset, page 21 of the owners manual:

    Factory Reset

All changes made to the ATX settings are saved when the unit is switched OFF. To return all settings back to Factory values, press and hold the RETUNE/ PINPOINT button while switching unit ON.

    ATX FACTORY/DEFAULT SETTINGS

    Mode: Motion
    Discrimination: Zero discrimination (1st LED)
    Sensitivity: 10
    Threshold: 7
    Volume: 10
    Ground Balance: Neutral
    Ground Track: OFF

  5. Not that it applies to the question, but I had the Gold Racer out yesterday with the Garrett ATX. I got a sound with the ATX, Turned it off and on with the Gold Racer to see if I could hear it..... Yes, faint but there.

After digging a measured 17", there it was... the base to a shotgun shell!

Why could I hear it with the Gold Racer!!??

LipCa, I'm assuming the Gold Racer was set to All Metal.  Which coil did you have on it?  That's pretty impressive depth.  Thanks for posting.

  6. That's pretty funny Alex.  I thought I cleaned all the garbage off that claim.  Guess not.  Actually I probably got tired of digging the garbage ( was using an ATX) and moved on to another form of prospecting down on the river.

Maybe we will cross paths over there one of these times.  Good luck and keep at it.

  7. Paul.  With the elliptical coils you rarely need to pinpoint.  Once you get a signal, while sweeping the coil from side to side over the target, slowly pull the coil back until the signal disappears, your target will be right off the tip of the coil.

I prefer pulling the coil back towards me, but it also works moving the coil forward, once the signal disappears, the target will be just off the back end of the coil.  Toss a coin down and give it a try.

Looks like the Gold Racer really locks onto coins with a solid signal.  I've still got two feet of snow on the ground, plus its frozen.  So I haven't had a chance to take my Gold Racer for spin yet.  Maybe in April.  Thanks for posting the videos.
