  1. If you had to choose between these two units, the Deus II and Equinox 900, for coin/jewelry hunting in local parks with a medium mineralization, which would it be? I know there are various conditions to consider, but in general, I'm just talking about your typical U.S. park coin and jewelry hunting, while also looking for missed deep targets. Yes, there are several other units that could be considered, but only interested in opinions on these two. Thanks for your input...

I'm wondering, would chopping some off the end of the shaft serve the same purpose for you as moving the pod?  Seems a lot easier to do, if it would?  I've cut hundreds of CF arrow shafts to length with a cutoff wheel.  Never any muss or fuss.

I was thinking the same thing Dave. Yeah, probable void the warranty, but if it would make it more comfortable to hunt with, it might be worth the risk...

FedEx was supposed to deliver mine yesterday, but it’s been stuck in Fort Worth for  3 days . Hopefully, you’ll have better luck.

I had the same issue, but with UPS. Could have driven the 60 miles to Forth Worth to pick my D2 up, and would have received it sooner. Finally delivered it yesterday...

Oops this post could go to the detector comparison forum, I always forget that rule ...

You forgot the Vanquish series starting at $199 for the 340 to $499 for the 540 Pro Pack...

They are great. I bought a pair after seeing your thread, and just ordered another pair because they are that good. Now I have a backup pair, although they may not be needed. They last 48 hours of music play time, so they last much longer with a detector. The standby time is unreal. For $31,86 (tax included) I don't think there's another pair at twice the price that is better. Again, thanks for pointing these out...

If you want an inexpensive solution to the ML-80 headphones, get these:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B085DKHY5K

I hope they still have the coupon giving you $10 off so they'd be $29. 🙂

Turn them on, wait for the voice prompt that says "pairing", then turn your detector on. With the Equinox they pair before the detector fully boots up. Every time.

You can also turn on the noise cancelling ANC switch, that works well.

You cannot get a better pair of headphones for the money.

Have you noticed any signal delay? These aren't listed as Low Latency is why I ask...

    Cap,

4khz to 40khz in multi on both 600-800, since the last update!! 4khz being the new one added!! Single frequency is limited on the 600 to max 15khz ; all as F350 said!!👍👍

    4kHz is not included in the Multi-IQ range. It's a separate, selectable, frequency from Multi-IQ, which is 5, 10, 15, 20, 40 for both the 600 and the 800. Selectable frequencies for the 800 are 4, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 40kHz, and 4, 5, 10, and 15kHz for the 600...

Tex Hunter, your question inspired me to do a couple of soccer/baseball field hunts this past weekend before my scheduled doctors appointment and treatment (lower leg boot for at least 2 weeks) for torn ligaments in my ankle shut me down.

    Hope you heal quickly.

I was able to very successfully hunt in sparse aluminum trash with the Deus for shallower coin and jewelry targets. With the custom settings I use and with lots of Deus practice/experience and coaching, I have a very good idea what I am about to dig if the targets aren't more than 4" deep here. I definitely do not have the luxury that the outstanding ID on the Equinox and Vanquish have on non-ferrous targets in similar hunting conditions=sparse modern trash/coins/jewelry targets in moderate mineralization. Since I only hunt by ear with the Deus I don't have to look at a display and decide if it is accurate which for me actually makes hunting with the Deus easier after I learned to trust it and what I am hearing.

That's exactly the reason I'm trying to decide whether to keep the Deus, and/or ORX, or stick with the 800 as my tool of choice for this type of hunting. When I lived in Colorado, most of my hunting was out on the Eastern plains hunting frontier military sites. Unfortunately, I didn't have a Deus back then, and if I was still doing that kind of hunting, the choice would be easier. The days of spending the entire day, from first light to dusk, hunting those kinds of sites is no longer an option. Afraid age, and back issues, have caught up to me. These days now consist to 2-3 hours hunting coin sites.

For these types of hunting conditions, along with sparse to moderately trashed parks, bark or sand play structure areas and for any thick iron situations, small gold nugget prospecting and general relic hunting, the Deus is a wonderful choice. I just can't say the same for the ORX due to its extreme audio limitations in its coin/jewelry 3 tone modes..

I think that is an excellent assessment.

Thanks for taking the time to do that testing, and the explanation of your results. Very much appreciated...

Just wanted to throw this in the mix because I do it sometimes. I like the notch feature on the deus when I'm in a trashy or aluminum littered park. I may or may not leave in nickels and I usually don't leave in zinc pennies. It will find silver rings but I'm mostly just coin hunting. I can't remember if the orx has that notch set up like the deus has.

I like the deus over the orx for the ability to do more things with the settings. It gives me more options to do what I want and I like that.😁

No notch on the ORX, just the conventional 0 - whatever number you stop at, will be rejected...

The only thing is the Deus/Orx are so light making it so much easier to detector.

I was out the other day for 3 hours with the Equinox 800 w/ 11" coil and it was starting to get heavy. Even with Steve's carbon fiber shaft.

I'm thinking of going the other way and selling or trading my Equinox w/ 11" & 6" coils and using my Orx w/ 9" hf coil, T2se w/ Nel Sharpshooter coil and just bought a use Vista X w/ 3 coils.

Rick, do you use the ORX for general coin/jewelry hunting in parks, schools or ball fields? I agree about the light weight of the Deus/ORX being hard to beat...

Wow, I almost told you the Nox 800 is a better coin and jewelry detector. Glad I didn't. 😁

That's ok, as I have one of those as well. Am trying to decide if either of my XP units can also fill the bill for the type of hunting I do these days, when I want a lighter alternative. I used to relic hunt exclusively, but I just don't have the stamina to be in the field for hours these days...

    Hi,

I would choose a Deus for a single feature : the audio tones ; 5 TONES and FULLTONES for the Deus while their are limited to only 3 TONES on the Orx. For me 5 tones is a minimum . For example using 5 TONES helps me to id high conductivity targets like big copper/silver coins(  high tone) , or low cond like small hammered coins ( low tone ) . FULL TONES is even more accurate  , very interesting to id very low cond targets , like alu foils for example .

Apart from that I dont see much differences between the Orx and the Deus performances , as they are using the same coils . Their depth and separation are similar in the field for my European detecting conditions ( mild soils , low to high iron trash , coin hunting ) .

However the Deus has much more settings than the Orx . From my standpoint I only use my Deus  factory modes with very little changes of the settings  . On my Deus Lite WS4 . I always use DEUS FAST  , 5 TONES or FULLTONES. I know that other forum members do use expert Deus settings and they will probably answer on this ...

    HH ...

palzynski, Thank you for the reply. I'm guessing you don't do much hunting in the sites I asked about. Unfortunately, I don't get to hunt fields very often. Your points about the differences in the two machines is appreciated...

  13. I posted this on another site, but would like to hear more opinions.

Like the title says, which is better for general coin /jewelry hunting in Parks, Ballfields, Playgrounds, School yards, etc., Deus or ORX? I know that the main problem with either is probably all the aluminum trash found today in those kinds of sites, and that most hunters probably wouldn't choose either one for that activity. Don't really want to hear about other, "better", units for hunting those sites, just which would be best between these two? Anxious to hear the opinions, and how you came to that conclusion...
