  1. These type of buttons are usually referred to as SPORTSMAN'S BUTTONS.  Usually made in Britain during the 19th century.  I think they are really cool.  Here is a link to some undug buttons:  https://www.bidsquare.com/online-auctions/woolley-wallis/nine-19th-century-brass-sporting-buttons-by-gosden-decorated-with-foxes-gun-dogs-game-birds-and-h-314377

  2. Great Find!!!!!  Yes, it's real. It could have belonged to the original home owner, or family member. Just because you aren't near an actual battle site doesn't mean you can't find relics.  There could have been an encampment near by for new recruits. Research the town / county history more and you may come up with your answer.

Here's an ironic twist -- you know those ads on the top and sides of the forum?  One just showed up for silicone wedding bands.  You probably think I'm kidding (wish I were) but you'll see them pretty soon, I suspect.  I guess they're not selling enough breast implants anymore and they've got to make their money somehwere.  At least (if really silicone) they won't trigger our detectors!

My son wears a silicone wedding band.

  4. Ive dug 6 stainless rings this year.  The first few made me excited thinking they were gold, now I just expect to find disappointment.

I was in Wal-Mart last night and they have a large collection of SS rings.  Prices go all the way up to just over $100.  Some of the high priced ones have a wide "gold" section around the outside of the ring which is VERY attractive and others had small "diamonds" embedded on the outside.  Finding gold rings may become as scarce as finding a stack of silver dollars with an equinox ?
