From my experience here in the USA, a GPX 4500 using roughly the same sized and type of coil as the stock 8” SDC2300 is capable of running as quiet or more quiet than the SDC2300 which has minimal settings for adjusting for ground and EMI conditions.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Will the 4500 be that much noisier because of the hotrocks and mineralization here vs the sdc? Local shop was recommending the sdc over the gpx for that reason

Looking at getting another detector for the Golden Triangle in Australia. Have a vlf but looking at either a new sdc2300 or a 2nd hand gpx4500 for marginally cheaper. Which one would better to learn PI with, and which one performs better?

I'm also very interested. I've been considering a qed or tdi to use around my land in Bealiba. My girlfriends gold bug2 sounds like morse code meets techno music festival with all the iron and hotrocks

Does this mean it will be up to only us PI owners to do the community a service removing tent pegs, fish hooks, bobby pins, rusty iron thingys....etc?😂

Never realised you could get other coils for the unit. If I hunt at my local beach...trasharama.....old working port but surf coasts are pretty good. Think half my problem is getting carried away with all these videos and forums showcasing all these new, shiny whizzbang machines. Hard to resist  especially with the magic word "sale" tacked onto them 🙂

I've half heartedly used the Sea hunter in the goldfields but was more killing time while my partner was using her Gold bug 2.

Don't know if you have them in Qld but a certain outdoors chain beginning and ending in A have the Eq600 for A$799 on their website

I've already got the Sea Hunter but saw Eq 600 on special near me. I'm in the fortunate position of living near the beach and also having a block of land in the Golden triangle. Got my eye on the qed for the GT but wondering whether to keep the Mk2 and grab a Vanquish for parks, coins etc or sell the Sea hunter and getting the nox to do beach, water, parks etc

If you take diving depth out of the equation and happy to stick to snorkel depths, what are the pros and cons of the pi Sea Hunter versus something like the Equinox 600 for salt water and beach?

Yep, read that article last night, along with reviews and you tube. I'm probably over simplifying things but it seems that the GM1000 is ready to go out the box (with minor tweakings for conditions) but the 24k is a machine that will grow with you as you gain experience? I noticed on another post you mentioned the Orx, another machine I was investigating,  any pros or cons compared to the other 2 machines?

When I lived in Brisbane/Australia my backyard's soil was red, drive 10km down the road to a friends house and he had dark brown lush soil.  His gardens looked a lot better than mine.  Australia has variable soil conditions, so I guess it depends what part of Australia you're hunting for gold as to how well the detector would balance to the soils.  I doubt all of Australia's gold fields are completely nasty soil.

Most of our hunting has been Central Victoria. No gold yet with the GB2 but managing to notice a slight difference in sound between the little iron stones and small lead shot 

Thanks Jim, Steve, Simon for all your suggestions. I probably should have mentioned I'm in Australia, would that change your suggestions re our ground conditions? I see the TDI SL is availabe at half the price of the Sdc 2300 here and the 24k is on par with the GM1000 price wise

Thanks for that Phrunt. I think I read on this forum that anything over the 30-40 khz were pretty similiar that's why I was thinking maybe something like the xterra 705 gold or something similar under 20 khz

You're right, I should have explained myself better. I currently have a Sea Hunter Mk2 I use at the beach and snorkeling. My partner has the GB2 to go prospecting. I'm looking at getting a prospecting machine and was wondering whether I should look at a lower frequency machine such as the xterra705, Equinox etc? Is the GM1000 sufficiently different to the GB2......? I'm working on the assumption that if we're out together a different machine may help fill the gaps.

Hi all

If I'm using a vlf/lf that is over 40khz, is there any benefit to getting a 2nd machine that runs under 40 kHz when prospecting? Assume PI is not possible at the moment. Does a sub 40 bring anything special to the table? I'm a beginner so just curious
