  1. I'm always glad to see new cheaper VLF's introduced, as some can have tricky little secrets to them. Handling some ground types better /smoother than others ect.

Particularly keen on the Treasure master Pro and 10" dd and that frequency I like.,, and the new Fisher 44 seems similar.

It amazes me just how often some of the VLF's hit better/deeper on certain targets and in certain ground types in comparison to the 2300. ($4000 to $400 is a big bloody deal, although I do love my sdc )

This TreasureMaster Pro mounted on a straight shaft will make a fantastic gold unit for the gutters of old tracks and detecting in general..... IF it has a True All Metal Threshold and not merely a fake blanking of a disced out target break.

2x AA's and a true all metal and I'm in!!!

  2. Hello argyle,

Interesting, your observation of the gain issues with the Euro detectors mirror mine. Not the camo though, I am waiting for black and gold F19 due out soon!

Finally watched the video, good job overall, so added to my new GPZ 7000 Video Gallery

You know Steve, if the silly buggers would just wake up and run a nice high controlled gain through a lower kHz and separate the Threshold off into it's own independent processing, and if they used the same ground balance (auto/track or manual that could be changed on the fly) that top units have hsd on them for 20 years, ...then the Euro maker's, two in particular ...Detech and Nokta, they would dominate sales across the world in both the gold and coin departments. But they seem hell bent on producing air testing wonders with only iron reject specialties for the Relic market.

  3. argyle,Is true that the GPZ 7000 will be followed by models with refinements that further enhance ZVT technology, we experienced that from the SD 2000 to the GPX 5000, also true that a lot of gold was found by the SD 2000. I suspect a Gold Hound video that hasn`t been made yet will show a lot of GPZ 7000 gold, although they may be doing that now, their young and weatherproof.Problem is it takes years of R & D to get there, meanwhile we keep aging and our feet can no longer do the yards so easily. Embrace the GPZ, learn how to use it, I reckon the Gold Hounds will, and I will if the feet let me.

Yeah I reckon a lot of gold, and I mean a LOT of gold will be hit by the Zed's before Christmas Vic.... For sure.

I think I've got around 15 years full on detecting fitness left in me Vic, save for injury. How long you got do you think?

You know what I enjoyed best out that Video, apart from reinforcement of not running a 5000 too hot.... Two gold mates detecting out in the bush and loving every minute of it.

  4. 100 hours may be bs for you Argyle but I feel differently. I have had poor impressions of several machines initially that eventually turned out to be the reverse of what I thought given more time. I was not impressed at all with the GPZ on the first go but am becoming more so each time I use it. It certainly is not a machine for everyone though. We all need to use what works best for us individually. What is your favored machine these days?

Yeah that's true I guess Steve. Especially when taken to different locations and ground types.

Some give a poor 20 minutes first up, then you start rocking with it and then it turns to a 2 to 3 hour run that should lead down the path of full setting understanding and ground behavior, then on to a full day and signal response at depth becomes a flash of clarity. But geez mate, by the end of that second full day (even the hours in Leiu) you gotta be gelling with it.

Apart from my major PI units, Funny enough my fav little unit at the moment is a VLF, the Fisher F19 (SDC being my fav specialist)

The F19's aren't overly dosed with gain like a lot of the Euro units. But they'll hit through medium hot to dead quiet ground further with such a hit on small and vein gold specimems that I'm amazed at them.

Once you're in sync with the how the gain and threshold correlate with each other (a first for me with this type of non-true threshold that acts as it's own boost on top of the gain) you can quickly manipulate these units for quick gold work. Ground Grab on them is so fast and superb, so quick that there was no need for engineers to place ground tracking on them.

No good running them in positive balance though, they have to be run within that short range of the GGrab's setting. Then they glide.

  5. Mate the video speaks for its self.

Gpz picked up 3 small targets the 5k could not even touch.

Gpz piked up all other targets found by 5k even though they are not familiar with how to get the most out of gpz.

Gpz runs well in adverse emi conditions that force you to stop on 5k.

Gpz can eliminate hot ground when switched to severe and still pick up a small nugget where 5k fails same test.

Gpz didn't detect 2 ground noise targets that 5k did.

Ahh.... I definitely must have missed all those Positive Conclusion's . I guess your mates did too.

So did you pick up on the Negative Conclusion's as well? Oh that's right, no conclusions were made apparently.

  6. Then your potentially missing out on a huge amount the GPZ has to offer..... It's not a massive learning curve but it does take time to avail yourself of the opportunity of experiencing the full potential of ZVT.

    JP

Two ground types that troubled it were a big concern for me, as the roughly 14km x 8km range I majorly detect in they hold sway in far too many areas there. Added with what I believe is a major fault/mistake in one setting on the unit, I passed.

I got to experience its full potential JP, and it came in above the mark, granted, but it had limitations over those ground types that I did not like. Actually at the price offered, 8, it should be with me now, but I have too many units set up with specific coils for one use only each.

And the GPZ even at that price was not putting me above the others in performance (for me). I pay for my units and they must perform for the reason purchased, and also gell with the operaters sense of detecting.

A distant thunderstorm was not a 'one use only' option that I was prepared to pay for.

I'm not having a go in any way Jonathan, believe me, at anyone or a manufacturer. I understand how the detecting world operates just as I understand the units themselves.

The GPZ is the first of the breed, it's the second unit that will come that'll replace half my stock, not this one.

  7. HI Steve guys

    Norvic

Tremain and Dave are close friends of mine and prospecting partners.

Tremain and Dave are both very experienced prospectors and know the 5000 inside out.

But this was the first time ether of them had used the new beast.

Listen to what he says in the video he is trying a multitude of settings on the different targets.

Were any of them optimum, probably not but they will freely tell you this.

It takes a hell of a lot longer than 2 days to learn a new detector and you need to go to a variety of spots with different conditions and target types/sizes, they went to one.

You will notice that they never came to a conclusion about the new beast as how could you possibly come to one after 2 days at one spot!

I dunno, a couple of fair dinkum two days at one spot.... I'm not one for this 100hr bs, I'd have a pretty quick conclusion going on.

  8. Good to see a couple of mates enjoying life on the prospect.

Yep, too high/fast. But he'll settle down and eventually understand you have to work the Zed It's way, not yours.

We all know that we have favorite units amoung the entire ML Pulse range. I've just finished a full day, full night -half day with a GPZ that I was buying off a mate that wanted to off-load it quickly. ....and it won't be falling into one my favorite categories . I'm kinda glad I won't be hearing one again. That's not a knock on the units, Minelab, or anyone that that likes/loves/believes in theirs.

  9. Yeah that's the old D-TEX Gold King you're thinking of Norvic, running at 15kHz and sharing coils with the A2b. They were really good units and I prefered them to A2b's construction wise. Heaps to choose from in that coil range from small snipers to big 14 inchers too.

This new Detech mob are from Bulgaria and their coils are tops. I just wish they knew how to make a VLF with a usuable manual ground balance and a better threshold, because matched with their beaut sef coils the machines would be deadly.

Here's an ugly little gold booger I hit with one of their EDS 's and sef coil. It screamed like a banshee, but sadly if their ground balance system and threshold correlation was better, it would have hit this piece in hot ground no sweat!

  10. Remember the Desert Gold vlf unit around 14khz a few years back, with the Camel picture on it?

These Detech Gold Catchers are very closely modeled on those but higher in khz.

Unfortunently just like the Detech EDS units, they cannot hold their ground balance further than 3 feet even on medium ground. And are useless on hot ground. They are however extremly powerfull/deep on dead quiet ground and are extremly sensitive like the EDS models. They will hit on small gold in these quiet ground types far further than any VLF unit. As for the Detech coils, both PI and VLF....Excellent!!!
