Yes.  The high conductors are really scrunched up there in the 90's.  I do think XP is going to address this.  I know it is possible to spread these TIDs out because they did so on the original Deus if you used the lower frequencies.  On Deus 1, if you normalized target ID then all target IDs were normalized to what they would be if running 18khz regardless of the actual operating frequency (Note: TID normalization was only applicable to the original LF and X35 coils, the HF coils did not feature TID normalization as an option, so TIDs varied with frequency and the IDs were really compressed significantly when running the HF coil at 25khz or greater).

So hopefully XP will give us the option to select the normalization reference to spread the target IDs as the user sees fit.  Perhaps two normalization settings - Legacy and "Wide".

But frankly, it's not really a show stopper for me, as even on the D2, zincolns and pennies rarely masquerade as dimes, quarters, or halves and frankly whether it's ringing up as a dime, quarter, or half makes no practical difference in my dig decision (i.e., I've never personally encountered a situation where I'm cherry picking halves over quarters), so I'll find out what it really is once I get it out of the ground, anyway.

I'm not so sure I want the coin signals spread all over the VDI range.  I'd then have to dig just about everything.  Today, just about all coins ring up 80 and above, and the X-Y screen gives added assurance.

I'm more interested in getting an idea of what type of metal is there, not whether a coin is a dime or a quarter.  Both would get dug anyway.

I wish there was a way to better identify aluminum, but as a high conductor, it may simply be something I have to live with.  The tiniest bit of aluminum rings up so sweet, and here in Michigan, I find a ton of round aluminum tree tags that were placed on the Ash trees, before the Emerald Ash Borer insect wiped them all out.  Those aluminum discs sound like a silver dollar every time.

  2. Same experience, basstrackerman.  I use the full remote almost all the time.  I have the WSA-II headphones so I can use the puck as the remote, but after a few outings with the "lite" configuration, I went back to the full remote.  I really couldn't detect the weight reduction, as the Deus II is already quite light with the full remote.  I also like the larger display, as my eyes are rapidly aging.

  3. I have yet to find a satisfactory stand for the D2.  I store my Deus 2 in the optional hard case, so any stand will have to fit into the foam cut-out in the hard case.  I'll eventually create my own solution that folds or retracts into the handle, preserving the original shape of the handle when storing in the case.

For the Deus 2, XP has simply re-used the handle design from its legacy machines, and the 'stand' that is integrated into the handle is where the control box is mounted (see picture below).  Can't blame XP for reusing parts where it can.

Windows. The perfect example of selling a product that will never be finished.

Windows has more than 50 million lines of code.  It could never be defect-free and if Microsoft waited until it was defect-free, it would never be released.  Also, the world continues to evolve ... new devices and peripherals, new software, new services.  Windows, or any consumer OS, will never be finished.

  5. From what I've witnessed, XP seems to focus more on quality than marketing hype.  Therefore, I expect that the next firmware release would come when XP feels it is ready.

I agree with CPT_GhostLight - 1.0 is just a number and may not imply any special level of software maturity.

  6. Have not had an opportunity to get the detector out in the cities we've visited so far.  I'm not after relics in Peru, and if I stumble across a true Peruvian relic, I'll contact a local museum.  An old coin would be nice, but this is a family vacation, and detecting is a secondary priority.

  7. Congratulations on your Deus 2 purchase.  I am enjoying mine, and the machine has performed quite well any place I take it, including under water.  I currently have it with me while travelling in Peru.

I added the WSA2 headphones to allow me to use the WS6 puck as the master remote.  I've tested it but haven't actually hunted with it yet, but wow, it's quite light in that configuration.

    Enjoy your D2.

  8. 0.7 worked!  I was not able to install the previous update since I was getting "object reference not set to an instance of an object", but with version 0.7, I experienced no error.  Thanks XP!

I even updated my remote using my Linux laptop (using the Wine Windows compatibility layer) and it ran successfully.  Used my wife's Windows 11 laptop for the headphone update, just to test on Windows.

Will hit the woods this weekend to get some experience with 0.7.

  9. I experienced the remote lock-up when doing the frequency scan, but the coil and remote were no more than 2 feet apart.  This was not an issue with the coil being out of range of the remote.

I was in close proximity of two laptops (maybe 2-3 feet), so perhaps EMF interference from the WiFi communication?  No idea - anything would be a guess.  Also, the WS-6 pinpointer was powered up (and paired earlier).  My home has both WiFi and Z-wave frequencies in operation, so maybe EMF was a factor?

Has not happened since, although I avoid doing frequency scans indoors.

I really like having the pinpointer paired with the detector.  Most of the time, it works great.  Periodically, the pairing doesn't work.  Sometimes, simply turning it off and back on does the trick yet at other times, it takes several tries.  Today, I had to un-pair it and then re-pair it to get it to work.  Several times afterwards, I had to turn it off and back on a couple of times to get it to work.  Most of the time it works great but sucks when it doesn't.  I was using Program 2 Sensitive on the Deus II.

I've experienced this too.  Pairing worked for a while, but a few weeks later I had to unpair and re-pair to get them to work together again.  Hasn't happened since.  I'll be patient, as the software is still in a "pre-1.0" state.
