  1. I am still wondering how them ZED guys came up with 10 grand each to buy them things? Did they remortgage their house, take on 3 jobs, sell their first born, rob their retirement accounts, run up the credit card, or just happen to have 10 grand sitting around to toss away? I wonder what they figger the payback time will be, days, months, years, decades? Not gonna happen for me, retirement isn't far away and I gots to save my pennies..tired of working..

Sold a kidney to fund the Zed and sold options on a lung for the CTX ;-))

  2. GoldHound, have downloaded your files and installed into Xchange2.

Saw the 6 files in the "file" folder but could not view the detail of each one until I worked out that I needed to generate a new folder and transfer them in.

Can now see the configuration for each mode and it all looks pretty good

Just need my CTX to arrive now and try them out

Cheers for sharing your good work GoldHound

  3. Can anyone assist with file types importable to Ozi?

The options from the SARIG database that I'm getting the files from are

    Arc view shape file

    File Geodatabase

    Google KMZ

    Map info TAB file

None of these match the options for file types in Ozi

I have down loaded the KMZ and opened it in Google earth and that layer comes up fine, just cant get it into Ozi

  4. Gold Hound, which map sets do you find to be the most useful for Ozi in Australia?

I've found some 1:200,000 but the detail is still a bit limited and the 1:100,000 only cover the edges of our island.

Also the geo maps on the Ozi site look interesting but are they any good?

  5. Steve and others,

When hunting in the desert or on the beach there are always 'side signals' which indicate a target is near.  (When you are several inches away from an aluminum can for instance you start to hear it.)

Sometimes this is a source of interference and other times it leads to a successful target find.

Are any coils better than others for producing a larger, useable off the coil signal that makes for a virtually larger coil than its measured size?

    Mitchel

I can assure you that the DOD coil on the GPZ7000 will detect a can on edge at over 6 feet. :-))

  6. It was, of all things, a .22 cal bullet. First time I have had a signal like that for a piece of lead. Had me fooled, was sure a small specie was coming out considering the target was about 8" down.

PS, did someone fix my vid? I could not get it to embed properly last night

  7. I took delivery of my Zed this morning and firstly would like to thank the shop for not only having it assembled and charged ready to go, it was also fitted with a full cover on the screen/keypad, a pad on the armrest and a full cover for the main box/battery. This was followed up by 30mins of instruction on how to start it up, pair the remote speaker then work through the menus and the functions.

Good service still exists in this world :D

Spent the day getting the hang of it, pulled lots of very small lead shot from a patch that I had cleaned up with the 5000 and a small coil so the gold is only a matter of time and perseverance.

Last target of the day was interesting, the target noise was very warbly and it reminded me of fine wire.

Here's a vid of the signal, see if you can determine what came out of the hole?

  8. The views on another forum are that he balanced the target away and they will be returning tomorrow to dig up the nugget!

JP, in several videos, locks the GB when digging a target.

Maybe the GPZ ground balance is too good or the learning curve on this machine is still rising?

  9.   Lithium batteries are set up to prevent such occurrences because they are so reactive.

I would challenge this if I may and stand to be corrected if I have misinterpreted the sentence.

Lithium batteries do not by themselves limit overcharging. This function must be managed by the charger as lithium batteries turn into incendiary devices when over charged.

There is a saying in the RC modelling world "don't charge a lithium battery inside anything you cant afford to loose" They mean your RC plane, car, shed or house, all of these have been burnt down by over charged lithium batteries.

  10. I'm not looking for info on your gold location, they are, like mine, confidential and shared with few.

With Minelab very silent on how this machine works the intent is simply to share findings on the operation of the GPZ.

A bit like the 5000, the way this machine works is widely known and this helps to ensure the settings are correct for the masses.

I realise that in these early day's there will be settings or techniques in particular circumstances that people will be unwilling to share. That's fine, IP is hard won and needs to be protected but it would be good if those general "light bulb" moments are shared

    Cheers

    Peter

  11. My GPZ arrives in two weeks and while I wait with nail biting anticipation I'm trawling the net for information on this machine.
My opportunities to get onto gold are limited as I live 4 hours by road from any gold bearing ground and this means I have to plan my detecting time in near military detail. To this end any info on the GPZ will go a long way towards maximising my results. I'm sure there are others in the same predicament.
There is very useful info from JP and Steve on GPZ operation being posted and this has wetted my appetite for more on how to make this machine sing like my 5000.
To this end is it practical for GPZ tips and tricks to be posted in a single location?
    Cheers
    Peter

  12. Some tens of years ago a prospector gave me two gems of knowledge that have guided my prospecting to this day, they are.

Gold is where you find it, and

The further you are from your last nugget, the closer you are to your next.

When I'm struggling to find anything more on a patch I recall this advice and move on
