One of my Field Staff, - Lunk will be down in AZ this winter and I'm sure I'll get down there for at least 1 trip. He's not only dialed in the best Settings a variety of detectors to find Meteorites, he has spent countless hours and days in the field researching sites.
A few of our customers from past - will visit AZ in the winter and schedule back to back training through me, and I connect you with Lunk. 1st day is learning the detector to find gold (at a different site down the road) and then the 2nd day is to learn how to set detector for those elusive Meteorites on some sites that still produce.
Having that space rock sitting on your mantel with your other purchased gems will easily be the most memorable.
Good luck down road and be sure think positive.
Wow! That's a beauty! Thanks for the video and the words of encouragement.

Arch, I'm not in AZ., but this video I did might be of some help to you.
As for some personal hands on training 1 on 1, I'll have a Field Staff member down there this next winter and he trains on both gold nuggets and meteorites. I was with him in Jan down there and hunted those space rocks for a couple days, we did quite well.
I appreciate the video. I've watched before on Youtube, but I need to watch it again. It would be great to learn from an expert. That was quite a haul. The only meteorites I've ever found were the ones I bought at the gem show and on Ebay. Must be really exciting to find one out in the field.

There have been several metal detectors for sale on the local CL, but none have been bargains and haven't sold very quickly. Ebay seems to be the place where quality detectors go fast. I was even thinking of selling mine and upgrading to a new unit but so far I haven't seen anything that interests me.

The price you used to describe it made it clear what pinpointer you were talking about. The other one(s) they make are more expensive (as far as I know at least).
I figured you knew which one I was referring to, but took the suggestion of posting a link for others who might not know. Thanks again for your comments regarding the different pinpointers!

Got it; I think that's officially named 'Nokta Pointer', and could be confused with the 'Pulse Dive'. To provide impetus for confusion, I think both Nokta and Makro had pinpointer models before the two companies merged. I don't know if those were different, though. Here's Nokta/Makro's current product page for pinpointers.
Just a suggestion to everyone: if you refer to a product it helps the readers if a link to that product is included (can be the manufacturers page, a seller's page such as Amazon, even an Ebay listing).
I posted a link to the manufacturer's website. The "Pointer" name isn't very original but as long as it works is what counts.

I'll point out that Nokta/Makro makes more than one pinpointer, so suggest everyone makes sure of which one s/he is referring to.
I was referring to the "Nokta Pointer Waterproof Pinpointer." It's kind of a generic name, but that's how I've seem it listed on Amazon.

I've heard good things about the Nokta/Makro pinpointer. The only drawbacks I've seen is that it can be a little twitchy at max sensitivity and the button are at the back, which can make on the fly adjustments slower.
The F-Pulse is good in hot ground, but not immune. But it's biggest advantages come from using AA batteries and its sensitivity.
The Garrett "Carrot" is a solid choice (and one that I currently use), but I'm not happy with its ratcheting ability (aka: closing range). This refers to the pinpointer's ability to let you know when you're getting closer to a target, but haven't reached it yet. I like its max sensitivity ability, but when in that mode, its closing range is lousy.
White's TRX has great closing range or ratcheting, but it's been discontinued.
Based on my online research, the XP Mi-4 or MI-6 have ratcheting abilities that are close to the TRX and definitely better than the Garrett Carrot.
Thanks for sharing your impressions and experience with these pinpointers. I read good things about White's TRX. Maybe Garrett will bring it back or incorporate some of its features into a new AT Pro model. It's a tough choice to make because they all have their positives and negatives. Just like a metal detector, there doesn't seem to be all around perfect pinpointer. I'd like to find reliable one for general use. Cheers!

I've never used a pinpointed as well but am thinking of getting one. I wonder how good the Nokta/Makro waterproof pinpointer is for under $85.00. I read mixed reviews of different brands and models. It seem that the Garrett AT Pro is the most widely used. I read that the Fisher F-Pulse/Teknetics Tek-Point do better in mineralized soil.

Hello Arch,
Like many of us, I'm happy you came back to detecting! Nothing else like it!! Those machines should still find the good stuff!!👍👍
Thank you for the encouragement! I hope to get out soon and find some good stuff.

Are there any experienced GMT users in southern AZ willing to give a few pointers on using this machine and hunting for nuggets and meteorites?

Welcome aboard Arch Stanton !
For some unexplained reason I'm hearing a lone guitar and somebody whistling this really catchy tune , and occasionally cackling. Lots of reverb.
Nahhhh , .Must just be an ear worm....
All that info you seek is here , much of it already posted. Ask about anything that puzzles you , answer on anything you have something to add.
I've heard there are relics , gold and meteorites out in the desert , so that checks out.. When you and your friend find some remember this one thing........We Like Pictures !
You must know Bill Carson. So they say. Hopefully, we'll get lucky. Thank you!

I have some unexpected extra time on my hands and am going to give metal detecting another try after quite a few years. I was on a couple of forums that might not exist anymore. I took the detectors out of the closet and brushed off the cobwebs and dust. I have a Troy Shadow X2, Tesoro Bandido II, and a Whites GMT. I mainly used the Shadow for hunting for relics and found a few. I recently sold a Tesoro Eldorado to a friend and hopefully he'll get the detecting bug and we can go out and find something interesting. I'd like to resume the hobby and search for relics, gold, and meteorites out here in the desert. This is a great forum with expert reviews on detectors and many informative posts. I hope to learn quite a bit and enjoy the hobby.
