I think Tekkna is useless in iron infested sites. This program is based on prog. 3, which uses more agressive silencer settings, even at 0.  Why not use prog. 4 Fast? Fast is based on silencer filters from 0.71 version and is great for unmasking and separation.

The disc is set to 42 and now everything below that value is controlled by Iron Volume setting which is 10. That's major problem, because everything: ground, iron, ceramics and low nonferrous conductors -all sound at the same high level of volume 10.

That's overkill for human ear, same problem was with fulltones in D1 when hunting in heavy iron.

The reason why Tekkna was created is simple: minimal iron falsing.

People love minimal iron falsing, but nothing comes for free.

I agree with you I wrote it even before, I was skeptical but you have to try it in a real site and not in a test garden.... Adjust your discrimination and reactivity based on the location and you'll see that it works.... And I'm talking about European targets, thin medieval coins that have tid 37-38-40 in heavy iron, you will be able to unmask with this program that has as its base the number 3 that I have never used before precisely because it uses the silencer too aggressive, but you have to try it!

  2. program number 3 with the aggressive silencer (even at 0) is the least suitable to create a base to unmask targets in the middle of the iron, following the logic I would have taken as a basis the program number 2, this is to say that logic is worth nothing in this hobby, things must be tried... And that's what I did in a medieval site full of iron and modern garbage, guys to my amazement I have to say that he unmasked some very small coins in the middle of that hell,I only changed the discrimination to 35 because some small coins sounded at 38-40 and the iron volume to 7....I was amazed and I must say that it works very well and if it works very well in a land with ancient bricks, iron of all sizes and modern garbage I think it will be good everywhere!

    ps: i'm on 1.1 version

Based on the above, given that unwanted ferrous stuff (of whatever particle size) under the coil in the 'swept volume' always tries to overwhelm the non-ferrous signal from the same volume - dragging it down towards ferrous - lowering Disc will help you to find good targets that are having their TID being 'drug down' (as some US Utubers say!) by this effect and would otherwise be ignored.  The downside is that your ears and brain potentially get overwhelmed by sound 'information'!

Are there any advantages to lowering discrimination (-6.4)? It's the main question of this topic, we discussed it before. I'll give an example because I don't understand what you mean, a non-ferrous target with Tid 70 in a mineralized soil is masked with Tid 7 (ferrous zone) if we have discrimination at 10 that target sounds like a ferrous ok? Now, if in that context we have discrimination at 5, that target sounds like "good" but always with TID 7, right? Or do you mean that by lowering the discrimination that target with "drugged" Tid 7 turns into a Tid close to the real 70 so that coming out of the iron ladder?

  4. Totally agree with all of you, even if there is no news about it at least not in the videos on youtube, now I understand the meaning of negative discrimination even if in practice I can't imagine how a borderline target could sound better with negative discrimination. Surely we Europeans have different terrains and targets from those who live in the United States for example

I'll use -6.4 Disc with Full Tones or Multi Tones in certain conditions. I have a lot of sites that I've worn out over the years and I find that using some "extreme" or nonconventional settings will help sniff out some goodies from these tired sites. I am a fan of setting tone bins in Full Tones and adjusting the volume. At iron laden sites I'll often set up a bin to bracket the iron falsing VDIs and then set the volume to zero. Sometimes extreme conditions require extreme settings.

Can you tell us more about how negative discrimination can help? in unmasking or in deep targets?

I also want to mention that how you set up your other audio parameters is key and needs to be customized for your hearing and comfort.

Chase Goldman you told a sacred truth, in the end it's all about hearing and comfort... Less headaches about parameters and give more importance to what sounds best to each of us....thank you 🙂

  7. Thank you for your detailed reply, Believing that using "low" discrimination would bring benefits on unmasking performance, I often use discrimination around 5-6 and when I'm on an iron-infested "field" using pitch tone you can't make out all the targets because some of that iron sounds like a good target forcing you to look at the display every second,  That said, and following your words, Deus 2 seems easier than I think. I just need to bring the discrimination to the top 8-9-10 and I'm sure that most of the iron is "discriminated" making the search more pleasant and without affecting the unmasking performance... So I assume that setting a discrimination below 10 is only for those who want to dig iron! or for those who want to make sure of the presence of bricks or ceramics

ps:Listening to what XP tells us, program number 3 has a more aggressive silencer even at level 0 therefore less suitable for unmasking targets, because having a low silencer level offers excellent possibilities of unmasking

  8. I'll start by saying that I've never used a Deus 1. I own the Deus 2 since it came out on the market, before the updates I heard a lot of complaints about the full tones not working like on the Deus 1 etc.... I never tried them until they updated by adding offset for full tones...  Reading here and there I got the idea that the full tones on the Deus would have been the trump card when it comes to separation in environments polluted by iron and more, offering the richest sound identification that XP has implemented.I've never even used negative discrimination -6.4 I've never understood the meaning of it... So I ask you if full tones are actually the best choice when hunting in iron-infested sites and if combining full tones with negative discrimination in these environments where unmasking targets is the priority, can really raise the "performance" of Deus 2.I have very mild soils and the only annoying mineralization in some fields is the massive presence of ancient bricks, I don't consider myself an expert in XP detectors but after more than 500 hours of use I didn't understand when and why to use full tones and negative discrimination

    Thanks.

But the threshold doesn't seem to fluctuate with the ground like all metal. Seems more like a self induced tinnitus with no relevance to hearing targets.

I don't understand, with the 2.0 update they ruined the threshold again like at the beginning when it was just a sound without mutations?

I just installed V2.0 a few days ago and took it to the beach yesterday.  I'm glad I did install it after hesitating because I thought the only upgrade was the addition of the Xtrem Hunter software and the enhanced Goldfield sensitivity.  I quickly saw that there was more to V2.0 than advertised.  The overall sensitivity was enhanced based on observable behavior with Micro targets at 2+ scoops depth and the TIDs were tighter/stable.

Reading posts about bump issues, I didn't see that with my Deus II so I intentionally bumped my coil against the sand and seaweed clumps....no issues.  I was using my modified Beach Sensitive program with the 11" coil.  I switched programs from mine to the factory Beach Sensitive with no changes just to see if there was any difference.  No difference...still no bump issues.

My initial thought was my version of 2.0 (a few days old) may have contained some unpublished changes from older versions of 2.0 where XP addressed the bump issue seen by those earlier downloads.  Can't say/don't know.  All I can say is that my Deus II has no bump issues that I've found so far.    🤷‍♂️

So when I got home, I read a post suggesting bumping the coil with my hand.  I tried that and wouldn't you know it....I had a bump issue!!!   I then bumped the coil against a piece of furniture...no bump issue?!?!   Am I delirious?  I can't interpret the facts, I'm just reporting the facts from my foxhole.  🤷‍♂️😄

thanks for your info, I also tried to hit the coil with my hand and I had a sound response but I think it's normal at this point... What is not clear to me is that if I set the ground stabilizator to 3 what I would lose specifically in terms of performance

Thank you for providing your settings.

Do you ground balance your Deus 2? yes always

Have you tried different Silencer settings? No, I don't use the silencer

Does your coil make noise when you bump it against rocks, dirt or when you hit it with your hand?

mmmmm I've never tried to hit the coil with my hand

Quali programmi e impostazioni stai utilizzando?

Same prog as 0.71....sensitive,disc 6,three tones, silencer 0, notch off, bcaps 0,sens 92,freq 40,audio response 4-5, react 2,audio filter 0.decrease the sens doesn't seem to solve, anyway it's just louder than with the update 0.71.....soils without mineralization, the coil produces sounds when it impacts with vegetation

  13. Absolutely no mineralization "peaceful" soils.... I noticed this increase in chatter and I asked you at the forum for help, I hunt 90% in dense vegetation and that chatter could deceive me about a possible deep or weak target..... Of course I have the ground stabilizator on 2, would putting it on 3 help? What would I lose in terms of performance?

  14. I would never dare to doubt what you say but we don't know each other and I don't know how much experience you have... I also have the deus 2 since it came out and I hunt exclusively in dense vegetation the coil hits every branch, shrub or stone in very narrow spaces, for my hunt having a metal "chatter" is of no advantage because that chatter distracts me from possible deep small ancient European targets...Having said that, I was stopped for a few months due to the summer heat, I updated and noticed this chatter... harmful for my type of hunting

  15. Hi everyone,it's been a while i used the deus 2 i updated to 1.1 and i went to try it. idon't know if it's just in my mind but i noticed a greater sensitivity/instability of the coil to impacts with vegetation...it seems to chatter more than with 0.71,is it just my impression? or actually with the new update there was something that affected this???

ps: sorry for my bad english 😞
