This guy who hunts in tennis shoes and does not go near the water? I am supposed to listen to him? 😏

    A couple things.
    1) The OP wasn't asking for people to listen to for advice or anything else.
    2) I didn't say it was someone you should listen to for advice or anything else.
He has an entertaining channel where he does a lot of beach hunting (which WAS the OP issue).  He may not wade out into the water, no, but he does go into wet sand at times.

I ran a gold test on 4 kHz park mode with a gold object I found on the beach. Rang up 18-23 which are gold numbers. But on the beach it may have different results due to the salt conditions. Not sure if it would be picked up if on the beach and on park mode + 4 kHz. If it could be picked up, then it could be a way to pinpoint only gold if the focus were only on gold numbers. Any higher and 40 is probably falsing?

Aren't high freq's usually better for gold than low?

  3. OK so I've seen a number of people using either the Simplex or Legend mention that they never run full sensitivity even though lack of EMI chatter would allow it.

Is there a good reason for this?  If you are able to run the Legend at 30, why purposely lower it to 26 or 28?  I've never heard anyone explain the why...

Max Sens = Max depth, no?

  4. Thanks so much.  Now I will have to look into how to use/access the GI indicator! 😉   With my Legend, so far the ground around here GB at 8 or 9 pretty consistently.  But there are 2 active volcanoes really close that regularly spew fine ash.  Thought the ground would be pretty mineralized, but with the 9 was kinda surprised.

    Thanks again for the explanation.

  5. So I have a question about Ground Balance numbers  What do they mean?  I remember seeing people say when beach detecting to have manual GB on zero.  So does that mean that the hotter the ground the lower GB value you need?  When performing an auto GB, you pump the coil til the number (and sound) stabilize, right?  So if I'm getting an auto GB value of say 9 on dirt, does that mean it's hot soil?

  6. An experienced detectorist in one of my FB groups just posted he had a great beach hunt recently, and surprisingly (to me) he wasn't using Beach mode!  I'm assuming he was using this on dry, not wet sand, but I don't know that.  Said he was getting targets 10-12" deep.  Another member echoed the claim.

    He said his settings were:

Recovery speed 4, Sensitivity 28, GB 0, Field Mode, M1.

    Wishing you massivve luck!

  7. Saw a YouTube vid with Nokta about the new pinpointer, the Accupoint, stating it is due to start testing in a couple weeks.  Also said it does have discrimination, but (very sadly) is NOT Pulse Induction.  Dashed my hopes.
VLF don't do as well...missed opportunity in my  opinion to make yet another version of a VLF pinpointer.

Since two days I'm the happy owner of a Nokta Makro Legend. Went out into the fields for the first time yesterday with it and it worked great but one issue I had was the iron tone. For some reason (user related I'm sure 😉 ) I could not get a clear tone when hitting iron. It was kind of a muted sound but not as clear as the other tones. I have been looking in the manual where I need to adjust but I'm not seeing it.

How can I setup the iron tone so that it sounds clearly ?

I just got mine about 4 hours ago, so I'm faaaar from an expert, but I believe in the tones section (where you choose how many tones, tone freq, etc), you can change the volume for each tone break.  Your iron tone should be the tone break on the far left.  Check to see what the volume is there.

Interesting. My early model F-Pulse also started acting up. I fiddled with it for a while, changed batteries, but eventually just grabbed a Carrot I had instead. I need to check it out again. Kind of the same boat, out of warranty, and not worth the hassle anyway since I have other oinpiunters. But it was my “first grab” choice so now that it’s winter I should see it it works, or just needs to get tossed.

I remember seeing somewhere (on this site??) something about early models having an issue with the spring in the end cap being set too deep, causing poor connection with the battery and making it act wonky.  They said they shimmied it with some aluminum foil under the spring to raise it up a bit and that seemed to solve the issue... Maybe I'll give that a try.

I had similar issues crop up with a White's TRX -- the switch wore out.  (I've also had this kind of problem with the push-button switches on the Fisher Gold Bug Pro.)  I can't say that's what you're experiencing, but it sounds similar.

You didn't say if your Tek-Point is still under warranty, and further I don't know how easily it is to get it repaired since you are in Japan.  If the warranty is still applicable it will get fixed at no repair cost, but who pays the shipping and if it's you, how much, etc.?

I've had it for a long time.  The first batch to be released (early 2018 if I remember correctly).  So unfortunately it's long out of warranty. Shipping would be pretty bad.  That is the main reason I've decided to purchase a new detector to replace my Eurotek Pro.  Membrane buttons on it don't work (it's even more out of warranty than my Tek-Point...hahaha)

    There are 3 modes:

    • Vibe only
    • Beep only
    • Beep+Vibe

For each mode, there are 3 sensitivity settings.

I have a Tek-Point (same machine as F Puse, I know), and lately it has started acting weird.  It will sometimes advance through 2 or even 3 steps of alarm/sensitivity with only one button push.  For example, i want to go from beep 2 to beep 3, but even though I only push the button 1 time, it advances 3 steps!  Other times, when I hold the button to change alarm/sensitivity, it just vibrates nonstop (no beeping) and won't do anything until I release the button (at which time it turns off).  Any help would be greatly appreciated as I absolutely LOVE my Tek Point.  Bought it as soon as it was released.

It's not low batteries, as I've changed them out to no effect.

Curious as to what kind of detecting you enjoy in Japan.

Any chance you have a Military Post Office address? That may make a difference on shipping.

I get some jewelry and a lot of modern coins at parks, but I've had some luck at basically forgotten castle and shrine sites and ancient roads.  My oldest coin so far is from the Muromachi period (1336-1573).  They didn't start putting dates on minted coins until the Meiji period (late 1800s), so there's no way to tell exactly how old it is.  Have a number of musketballs, and at the local park even found a Snyder 3 ringer bullet.  Would have been from the Satsuma Rebellion in 1877 (if you've seen the movie The Last Samurai, it's more or less a Hollywood version of that event).  Turns out there was a small skirmish where the park is now about 300 meters from my house!
I'm not in the military, so I don't have a military PO box.  Would make things easier if I did though...hehehe

Like Steve has said several times and it is true from my experience, if a person isn't having success with the Equinox, Deus 2 and Legend, they really need to develop (or re-develop) their detecting skills.....

    Or find a new hobby...hehehe
Some people would complain if you hung them with a new rope.
