CD just put up his videos on the iron falsing.  The TT is definitely providing some faulty information in heavy iron sites.  Not having a Manicore to test myself, I can't say there isn't a way around this as recovery speed was set one notch higher than NASA-Tom suggested but from what is being shown, there is a problem with the TT in heavy iron.  This needs to be addressed a little more clearly by others with a Manticore.

I'm not going to link to his video given his history I've been made aware of at DP but if you want to see the two videos he posted today just check them out on youtube.

Could this be why Minelab seems to have shut down any Manticore information/hype in the last few days? Could Minelab possibly be fixing this problem with the majority that haven't shipped yet with a software update?  I could see why they wouldn't want that information out there if this is the case.  Shipping delays because of a problem right out of the gate might not be a good selling point for them.

Or maybe alien space ships have beamed up all those container ships full of Manticores since they're too technologically advanced for mere earthlings like us. 😁

I'm a little peeved at the dealer I pre-ordered from. I sent a private message asking nicely I'd like to know where I was on the list numerically. I mean surely he has one figured out at this point. I got a message back well you ordered on the first day and I'm not where I look right now. I emailed a couple of days ago and so far got no response back.

Is that not a simple question? Is that to much to ask?

Sounds alot like we may have ordered from the same dealer.

Tell your dealer you are thinking about cancelling your order because you feel you are way down the list.  That may make him divulge your position on the list.

I kinda feel like since he's had a big chunk of my cash since October that a straighforward answer to a simple question shouldn't be that difficult.  I just don't know how long it will take to get a refund.

I'm really nice to dealers who treat me right.  The guy who I bought my Nox from (I think he's retired now) probably sold dozens of them to Daytona Beach tourists.  It's way easier to hand them a business card and tell them to call that number than answer umpteen questions.  "Call this guy right here, he can tell you way more about it than I can!"

I'm confident the Manticore will be better in just about every way over the Nox 900, there is a reason it costs more and it's not just the fancy screen and target trace.  If you're on the fence it's best not to get the 900 straight away and wait until actual user reports start slowly rolling in for both, that way you can make a more informed decision.

Dealers are getting the run around from Minelab, they know about as much as we do when they'll get their order it seems.

I ran into one of my buddies at the beach today and he basically said the same thing about the target trace etc. He doesn't think there's gonna be all that much difference between an 800 and a 900 and I'll be kicking myself when he's digging all the gold with his shiny new Manticore.  He knows me pretty well. 😁

I understand that my dealer doesn't know when he'll get them. I do wonder if he even knows who paid first or even cares. If he only gets in 5 of them is he gonna draw 5 names out of a hat?  Pick 5 names at random? WTH?

Yeah, now that really I think about it, am I willing to settle for a 900 because that's what I really want or because I could (hopefully) get my money back and be done with this particular dealer?  Maybe I should just cancel with him and start over at the bottom of somebody else's list?

Maybe I'm making too big of a deal of it.  Maybe he knows Minelab is gonna drop 100 of them in his lap next week so it doesn't really matter who pre-paid 1st or 21st.

Do you have to cancel your Manticore order or be committed to receiving it, or do you just mean if you go with the Eqx900 you'll cancel then, only wanting to commit to one new detector?  (I'm assuming my dealer -- Gerry In Idaho here -- will contact me when my name comes up and ask for either $ or a cancellation at that time.)

I've been pre-paid in full on that Manticore order since October.  I'm guessing if I decide to go with the 900 and cancel I'll get a refund fairly quickly? It would really help if my dealer would tell me where I am on his list.  Every time I ask he tells me about his distributor...MineLab...hopefully this month, and so forth. I really feel like I'm getting the run-around from him.  Why can't he just tell me "there are x amount of people pre-paid ahead of you"?  Why is that so hard?  Truthfully, it's one reason I'm considering just cancelling it.

I'll know more about 900 EMI handling vs. 800 and D2 next week...

Chase, please let us know what you find out. I take those you-tubers with a grain of salt.  Seems like most of them have at least slightly ulterior motives.

EMI is the big question but appears the 900 and the Manticore handle it better than the 800 from what I have seen. When you push noise cancel on them they actually mitigate it. On the Equinox 800 it never seemed to help much. But I will have a 900 tomorrow and my park near by has terrible EMI the 800 and D2 have always had an issue in. So if I get some time tomorrow I may head over to that park with the 800 and 900 and see how they handle the EMI.

Seems like noise cancel on my 800 actually makes it even worse about half the time.

I think performance between the 900 and the Manticore is very close.  The two things that turn me off to the 900 aren't even performance issues.  First, that red screen backlight would drive me crazy.  I don't see the TID and other indicators as clearly (judging from the videos) and I don't like it.  Second, I am more of a visual information processor than a tone processor.  So, the TT screen will be very important to me when processing a dig/no-dig decision.  Of course, on the beach you just scoop everything that isn't iron so visual queues aren't that important.

Yeah, that red backlight was another thing that I didn't like about it. I hardly ever use the backlight but a pink screen would probably be harder to see.  Why, Minelab? Did somebody on the development team lose a bet or something?

  7. I'm thinking very seriously about cancelling that Manticore pre-order and just getting a 900. I could probably have one of those next week vs waiting maybe months for that elusive Manticore. Do I really need a target trace when 90% of my hunting is in Florida sand?  Do I really need something that will go 16 inches down vs "only" 14? Most of those gold pendants and earrings I scoop up down there with my 800 are 1"-4" down. If the Manticore will help me get more of the 4"-6" small gold items, then yeah, I'll probably wait for it. But I couldn't care less about digging 16" down for a crusty green clad dime.

The 900 seems to have the leakage and coil ear issues fixed and it has the expanded target ID range that I've missed ever since I sold my DFX.  My main reason for still going for the Manticore would be EMI issues, which it does seem to handle a lot better, judging only from you-tube videos.  We have a lot of cell phone towers on the taller buildings at our beaches.  Some areas are barely even hunt-able with my 800 because of it.  Anybody here upgraded from an 800 to a 900?  Does it handle EMI a lot better, about the same, a little better?  How about going from an 800 to a Manticore? Have you seen the big reduction in EMI noise that some of those you-tubers say they have?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated. I'm on the fence and I need some input from people who already have these detectors. Thanks, ya'll!

Yes and the seller will also have the "privilege" of paying Uncle Sam taxes on his sale.   For 2022 tax season eBay will 1099 any sale over $600, and for the 2023 tax season eBay will 1099 cumulative sales over $600.

I've been selling on Ebay since 1996, so I'll do the math.  I'm thinking $3000 would be top dollar-keep in mind this is listed as an "open box" item. I'm not sure why he opened it if he was gonna sell it, but it will hurt the value somewhat.

The thing to watch will be if it's the only one on Ebay by the time it ends. If there's 1 or 2 more by Sunday he might not even get that much. Even the $2616 isn't a sure thing. Non-payers are very common on Ebay and I believe auction winners have a minimum of 2 days to pay nowdays. Manticores could suddenly get more plentiful by next Tuesday. Heck, Santa might even hijack one of PSPR's container ships and start dropping early presents down chimneys left and right. We can hope.

Let's say he lucks out and it goes for $3000 and Mr. Gotta Havit actually pays up. Ebay fees will be about $312, and his "free shipping" will run about $25 for UPS. If he paid the full $1599 for it, and the tax man gets 25% (15% self-employment + income tax) on the profit, then $267.27 goes to those thieves in DC. He may or may not owe state taxes depending on what state he lives in. Best case scenario leaves him with a profit margin of about $800 on a $3000 auction.

If mine suddenly showed up on the doorstep tomorrow Miss Ebay might think about it for about 15 seconds, but I'm sure Ms Detectorist would not be able to resist tearing into that box and leaving a scorching trail of burnt rubber on the road between my house and the beach. 😁
