Something I find intriguing with the Axiom is the DD coils, they seem to be favoured on the Axiom where as other detectors you put 'em on if you have to.

I've noticed this - mine came with the 7x11 mono and 11x13 DD as per standard in Australia, but given the number of people with 6000's who put on smaller nugget finder, etc coils - I reckon I'd swap the 11x13 DD for a 7x11 DD in a heartbeat (for my conditions, i.e. not the WA nugget fields.

That's probably about what it should be, based upon the lite package.  I've not added up the extra's the full package comes with over the lite with the extra coil, battery doo-hickey and the headphones, but if they total $1400 AUD then you paid about what the full package should now be that the lite exists.

You got a really good deal, was it a special or just a dealer selling it cheaper than RRP? I've noticed one dealer on Facebook lately offering the full package really cheap before the lite came out, now I know why.

On 13th of February this dealer in OZ was selling the full package on a special for $6385, it was just to clear out his stock of the full package.

Just before the lite package came out, now I know why 🙂

There were two dealers offering around the same level - $6,500 and so I just got mine a bit cheaper. That was I think them speculating on how well they'd sell and honestly they were probably trying to clear stock / get some numbers out there.

  3. I keep looking at the 24k like that meme of the boyfriend checking out the girl walking past - my current girlfriend being an XP ORX. My buddy has a GM1000 with the small coil and he seems to find it good for crevice detecting, etc whereas the ORX with larger coils are just doesn't seem to hit the same.

Being a dedicated high frequency detector, how does the 24k go as a general relic detector (the ORX's other use)?

This is a little off-topic, but it's spiked directly by this 6" coil release.

  4. @peterinaust - I'm also new to my Axiom and just learning all the different options. Have found lots of small, non-gold targets so I know it's just a matter of time hopefully.

I also find the 13" DD coil is a bit unbalanced and nose heavy - I am looking at the 11" DD (but not ready to drop the $600 on it yet) because I find the 11" Mono to be perfectly balanced.

A PI is not really the type of machine you can use in your backyard either.

    Yeah I discovered that haha!

quite normal high EMI in the back yard, I can only run sens. 2 in the back yard and very stable at that. Re the nox did you try noise cancelling / tune him out.

I tried to cancel out the Nox but didn't do anything. It's all good. I just tried to backyard as "excited to swing it" thing.

  6. Hi all - new to PI detectors and new to Garrett!

A few weeks ago I purchased an Axiom as my first PI machine. Doing some backyard testing I got a lot of EMI interference so I went out a friend's rural block. As soon as he fired up his Nox 800 the Axiom went crazy.

Is this normal? I figured worst case we just can't be within 10m of each other which is generally fine when detecting anyway.

Is it just PI vs VLF? Or PI vs PI it does this?
