  1. I have been waiting for firmware  improvements on the Nox 900 and there has been NOTHING so far! Meanwhile ...Nokta is constantly updating and improving the Legend. I am close to liking the 900 but it certainly needs some well documented  improvements. I have the 900 and the Legend and find myself reaching for the Legend  everytime I go detecting.I want it to be a hard choice but it's not.

Nokta definitely screwed up that Promotion Flyer. Glad they fixed it.

They have had their issues but they sure make some nice detectors.

My Legend that is still running 1.14 Beta 1 software that I was supposed to revert back to V1.13 according to Nokta did just fine today at a three hour group hunt at a municipal park where the people that use it are very generous with the money they leave for us. The Legend is fast, accurate and fun to use.

I am still using the 1.14 beta 1 also and see no reason to go back to 1.13. I'm liking it like it is so far   Awesome haul Jeff!

  3. I have been using BM a lot and am really starting to like it for relic hunting. It is really easy to tell the difference between ferrous and non ferrous targets from the sounds the machine is making. There is very little falsing unless there is a very large iron object in the ground and I can tell immediately when that is the case. As far as the Nokta guy using full sensitivity I have found that I normally run my sensitivity at 20 to keep the chatter down in Park and Field...I am using 28,29, or even 30 with no chatter. This seems to make the machine feel more powerful. The only downside for me is that while relic hunting I usually dig up all good signals and I am digging up a lot more  deeper nails and spikes. Again..this is for relic hunting as I have not done any coin hunting in this mode.

When I first updated the Legend to 1.14, Beast Mode would only respond to ferrous metals and was completely silent over nonferrous. In other words, it would pick up iron but not coins.

After trying everything and using it in the test garden a few times, I decided to update it a second time. This seems to have corrected the problem. Beast Mode responds to all metals but now I'm noticing that ferrous sounds louder than nonferrous. Nails are much louder than coins compared to the other modes. Is this normal?

In Park, Field, and Beach, ferrous and nonferrous have an equal loudness but with Beast Mode, nonferrous sounds quieter than the surrounding iron with no apparent way to separately adjust the volumes. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Once I changed the IR setting to 2 it made a big difference to the ferrous sounds making it easy to tell what is ferrous and what is non ferrous

On second thought, a type of overload may indeed be what's occurring.

Notice the audio is much louder in BM compared to Park and Field? So maybe on some non-fringe targets, the signal strength is so high that BM sees it as an audio overload and then just ignores the target?

I think BM mode would be beneficial for hitting fringe targets in low trash sites, OR hitting fringe targets on sites that one has already cleaned out using Park or Field.

I think it's perfect for cleaned out sites..and your overload theory just might have some merit! I really like the BM for relic hunting also as I really like how the sensitivity can be cranked up without chatter.(at least where I've been hunting)

I did even more testing, and I think I'm convinced that BM often, and deliberately, ignores shallow to mid depth targets (mid to high signal strength targets). That would explain why so many of my in the wild targets weren't even detectable in BM, but came through loud and clear with a good ID in Park mode. The 30% of targets in which BM was much better than Park mode, were all deep or tiny targets (low signal strength targets).

This is exactly what I am seeing!

  7. I have used the BM mode relic hunting for a couple days now and after setting the IR to 2 (and all metal)I am able to tell the difference between the ferrous and non ferrous targets. I really like this mode for relic hunting as it doesn't seem to miss any relics  and its cool how you can crank the sensitivity up the whole way and there is no chatter..however after burying a couple shallow (4 inch quarter, dime, and modern penny) coins I noticed that the park and Field modes were noticeably  better on these targets than the BM . The BM was really sketchy especially on the dime. Could it be that they need to be a bit deeper for the BM to shine?

  8. I used BM for a couple hours today while relic hunting today. I'm not sure if it was meant for this but I liked how it performed. Most of the ferrous stuff came in at 4 or 5 and when the ferro-check said ferrous that's what it was...no falsing at all! I had a few times where it rang up in the 40s   and ferro-check said non ferrous and it was brass clock parts or other non ferrous stuff. Maybe its my imagination but it sure seemed like the ferro-check was more accurate in the BM mode.  I am happy with it so far but I need some clarification on the 2nd Ground balance...what exactly does that mean?

I did notice “coil knock” on ground stubble in Beast mode. Lowering the sensitivity did reduce but not eliminate the knock. Good coil management is a challenge on a 60 degree brush covered slope but possible. The big plus with Beast mode was the ability to prospect for gold on a site saturated with hot rocks at depth. The Legend 01-60 TID range does concentrate a lot of small shallow targets in the narrow lower range. The LG15 6” coil may be better for those tight rocky target holes.

I tried out Beast mode today and noticed the "coil knock" also.I have no gold here and overall the BM seemed a lot like Field or Park on M2 with Pitch Tones. I was using the LG24 but agree that 6" coil might be a little better  in the crowded situations.

Same here. How awkward does setting up Beast mode have to be....

If I used it as it stands right now, I would have it in a User Profile already setup for emergencies so I wouldn't have to stop everything and spend 5 minutes making sure I had it setup right.

I can't tell what its weighting is either. All I have seen so far is that it doesn't really hit sub gram targets at depth at all.  Goldfield M had no trouble with clear two way hits on the same US Seated Half Dime and a 0.5 gram Burundian gold coil at about 8" depth. Basically next to nothing on those targets using Beast Mode properly setup. I was hitting US dimes and nickels easily at 7 to 8" depth with Beast Mode but not as hard as Goldfield M and Gold Field M had very accurate target IDs. Beast Mode was way off on the low conductive nickels I tested and was pretty close on higher conductive coins. Sensitivity was on 21.

Jeff   is DT something that you will turn on in Park and Field and just leave on?

  11. I like to turn the sensitivity up until the machine gets noisy and then back it off until it calms down. In my soil I usually end up around 20 to 22. You can use the horseshoe button that notches out iron and also turn up the iron bias setting but by doing this you increase the possibility of missing some non ferrous targets.

  12. The IF stability setting seems to be the least talked about setting on the Legend. The manual says that in the default settings for IF at 8 or 9  the stability setting is inactive in Park,Field,  and Gold Field modes.Does anybody ever change the default stability setting of 3 and if so what would the reason be to change it?

It appears different countries have different regulations surrounding this however, in New Zealand all you need is the purchase receipt, doesn't need to be original, even a photocopy/scan and print is fine.

Thanks! The problem is that I'm not sure if the original owner has the receipt. I'm checking on that now
