At least thatās what I thought for a few seconds before reality hit. I didnāt get out much during the summer months and when I get a chance all I found was this junk/plated stuff.
I got out for the recent storm and all the spots I hit were a bust. I had great 2023 and I was hoping to go out with a bang but unfortunately that didnāt happen. Thanks for looking and good luck to all in 2024. Happy new year to my fellow pirates š„³

Is it silver at least? š¤£
It was coated with something resembling silver. Makes you sort of wonder if all the wear on it is from the tumbling on beach or the crappy craftsmanship š¤š

Nice finds for such a short hunt, glad that you were able to save them.
Good luck on your next outing.
I was surprised too since I usually spend hours looking. Good luck out there to you too.

Busted up gold is just that. I've always counted it as a piece. But hey , Gold is Gold !
In the past I have counted it as broken ring not an actual one. I just wanted to see what others counted them as.
3 hours ago, GB_Amateur said:I'll turn the question around to you and other jewelry detectorists:Ā how many ring finds are sold for more than bullion value?Ā Does it only count as a ring if it actually brings (in a real transaction) value over bullion?
Your Franklin half probably only has bullion value, given its condition, even if it's a scarce date+mm.Ā It's still a silver coin, right?
Quite a successful hunt!
Thereās a lot of people that count even silver and other non precious metals as part of their ring count for the year. I was just wondering on this forum what pieces of gold rings were counted as. I personally, only count gold rings.
Ā
As far as silver coins, if itās as a whole even if thin I count them. If itās broken/cut in half I donāt count them. When it comes to Spanish silver, I donāt have to worry about it since I will probably never find any as a beach hunter š

The socal storm came and went but I still decided to go out today. I went out just hoping for wheat back and that was all. The hunt started Ā very slow but I wasnāt surprised since the beach was sanded in. I hunted one spot for about an hour and then call it quits since I wasnāt finding much. I walked south a couple hundred feet and so a few rocks barely exposed so decided to do a little gridding. My second target was the broken class ring. After that I found aluminum and few pennieās I kept going since I had already found more than I was expecting. Later I stayed finding fishing weights. I got this high VDI (in the 90ās) signal on the manticore and dug a pyramid fishing weight. I checked the hole again and found another fishing weight, a long one this time. I rechecked the hole once more and found a buffalo nickel. I kept gridding this particular area but couldnāt find anything else besides fishing weights and more pennies.Ā
ĀI wasnāt feeling anymore here so I decided to go North. I went further north than where I started. This particular spot didnāt have anything special about it but I decided to grid it. I started finding a few coins, some pennies mixed with quarters and nickels. Around an hour later I hit the small 14k ring with 12 diamond chips. As this point a was ecstatic so the rest of the hunt didnāt really matter but just kept going. I spent another 30 minutes there and found two silver dimes (I think one is a barber).
Ā
After this place I decided to go check out this one spot further north. I walked for a long time doing a zig zag but didnāt find anything. I even stopped at another place showing a few rocks but nothing showed up besides aluminum. At this point I was done so I turned around. I looked where I came from and picked a straight line to detect on my way back. I walked for a while and got this loud signal with a 94 VDI. I shoved my scoop about 4-6ā down and pulled it out. Checked the hole and the target was in the scoop. I tossed it and this silver disk popped out. It was a Franklin half and I just couldnāt believe it. I checked the area around it and there were no other heavy targets so I turned off the detector and called it a day. Thanks for looking and good luck out there.
Ā
I believe this year is the year of the broken rings, I think I have around 7 of them already. Would you counted as a ring or just a piece of gold?

Nice looking finds. I like using a black light when thereās a cluster of tiny diamonds. If one of them glows they are probably real. HH

Manticore is impressive on gold chains. Depending on conditions and hunt mode small stuff should be no problem.Ā
Un/fortunately the chain and two bracelets I have found with the manticore have been a little bigger than this earring. I have found a few with the equinox so I knew that Manicure should be better. Looking forward to see the chains and other gold finds you snag with the Manticore. HH

"Where did it go....where the heck is it??? Oh....that's it??"Ā š®
Aluminum seems to hit harder than gold unfortunately. The tiny can slaw drives me nuts since they sound so nice. HH

Holy mackerel, I mean trout š Those are some beautiful fish. I also enjoy fishing but mostly for large mouth bass. Here in CA we donāt have nice rivers or lakes like other states unfortunately so other hobbies take priority. Thanks for sharing and good luck on your next trip.

Great hunt ! Appears to be some discoloration to the left of "italy". Also my Tiff expert says the stamps are usually more sharp and well defined. Take it in. GL
The discoloration is where the mounting pin for the brooch was at. It is also the place where it broke in two pieces. I search the webs and I couldnāt find one like it so I have no idea if itās a genuine Tiff. But itās gold, and thatās good enough for me š HH

I didnāt buy from a big box store and I still didnāt get my Vet discount š„“ I hope production gets cranked up a bit so everyone gets an MC. HH

Awesome, really like the leaves, post a photo of the letters on the back!
The craftsmanship is quite nice. I updated the pics.

š Itās hard work trying to find a new beach to keep a nice flow of gold going to your pouch. Thereās way too much competition even if you get to a place at the right time. This months gold count has dropped by quite a bit, but if we give up it will always stay at zero. May there be gold under your coil on the next swing š

Went out for another stroll at the beach. One of my first good targets was the broken piece of a class ring (I have quite a few from different beaches this year). The next two hours were just the usual clad and finally I dug my first silver coin for the day. A couple minutes later I dug my second silver. I spotted this low spot with lots of rocks and decided to hit it. Ā I got a nice sound on the equinox and after a few scoops the leaf was laying there in two pieces. Picked it up to examine it and noticed itās stamped 18k. Thereās some hard to read letters on the back and I think it says Tiffany. The leaf tip the scale at 8 grams. Thanks for reading and good luck out there.

Still a nice find as you can honestly say that you found a Rolex.
Keep looking and the rest will show up, it may be a bit deeper or closer to the water due to the wave action.
Good luck and good hunting.
4 hours ago, CPT_GhostLight said:Very cool find! Rolex watches are very heavy so the main part is probably way deeper. Well done!
My guess is somebody may have found it already but letās hope not. I donāt visit this beach often but I just might have to now, at least during storms. HH

Congrats on your first gold. Persistence pays of. Ā Keep learning your detector, beaches, and donāt forget to also check the weather forecast for conditions in your area. Good luck.

That's not a chain, it's more like the ropes they use on large ship mast š Beautiful finds!
Thanks. Ships ahoy my boys. Takes me back to my days in the Navy.Ā
21 hours ago, mn90403 said:That is a great result for today.Ā I went to a not so normal beach this morning and there were 5 other guys already there.Ā Maybe you were one of them?Ā haha
I don't like crowds so I went to a beach without anyone.Ā I ended up with 5 cheap rings which were fun but I knew conditions were right for better.
You scored an ouncer as they say in nugget hunting.Ā I don't think I've joined the ouncer jewelry club but I have a couple of entries in the ouncer nugget club.

Thereās a high probability since I didnāt go to my usual place this time. An ounce of natural gold is by far more beautiful and takes a lot more skill to find. Wish good luck out there.
9 hours ago, Rick N. MI said:That gold rope is impressive. Did your heart skip a beat when you saw it?
The first thing that came to my mind was, it has to be fake. I have come across a few already. After I got home and inspected it I was ready to do backflips but decided on just doing the gold dance šŗĀ
9 hours ago, matt said:Great finds! Again, glad you don't hunt in my region. You probably don't leave much behind. Gold every hunt is impressive.
It does seem like I find it every hunt but thatās not the case. I do get lucky on occasion and get a two, three day streak. Nobody gets everything and I am no exception. HH
8 hours ago, Sirius said:Dude i found like 2 gold pieces in 3 weeks, you're doing a hell of a lot better than I am!
You are doing way better than me when I started the hobby. Keep up the great work.
6 hours ago, Compass said:Awesome gold chain - congrats! That's like finding 33 one gram gold rings. If that 1 piece of gold ring weighs 3 grams it must have been a pretty hefty ring.
Now when you put it that way, it seems a whole lot. Most of my gold rings I have found are a gram or smaller. HH

I got out for 3 more hunts but unfortunately I missed the big waves this week. I did get gold every time I got out so thatās a plus. My first hint of the 3 netted a wheatie and a broken grad ring. The next hunt I lucked out and pull a small 14k with a diamond chip. The last hunt was today and it didnāt disappoint. I was debating if I should go out, and to where. The diamond on the ring tested good and the chain weighs 33.73g. Ā HH

Thatās one beautiful coin, and hope you find the other half. Congrats on the great hunting.

Wham! Bam! Thank You Ma'am on that 1.5h hunt. Congrats on the gold and silva.

Oh my god, now thatās what you call a ring š³ Congrats on the great hunting. You and the Cat are killing it with some heavy gold.

I should throw some back, Ā but not too deep so someone else gets the rush of finding them.
Iāll post it up and see if I get any interest for them. A few bucks for gas wouldnāt hurt. HH
