  1. For anyone that’s ever used the boost mode on an F75 or V3i, you already know that the additional power is often accompanied by additional noise. I’ve personally found limited use for those hopped-up modes… Usually, further analysis of a deep target in accommodating ground conditions.

  2. I always had excellent results with my TDI SL on saltwater beaches... Over the years, I‘ve scooped enough gold rings in the surf to pay for the machine 5 times over. Lightweight, easy to set-up and balance, with a rock solid threshold (even in highly-mineralized sand). Paired with the right loop it was a hard to beat package in the $1,000 price range.

A lot of people don’t have, or don’t want, to drop $5,000-$7,000 on a high-end PI detector. The TDI Pro, TDI SL and TDI BH filled the $1,000 niche nicely. Those machines will be sorely missed by many surf and relic hunters, including myself.

  3. Steven, I hunt in the surf on a regular basis... I don't use a harness. Typically, my Minelab Excal is strapped to my right arm and my Stavr scoop, with a carbon fiber handle, is in my left hand. If your scoop is not too wide and heavy, but has large drainage holes, you will have no problem working it with one hand.

When I'm out in the surf I allow the retreating wave to clear the sand from the scoop basket, leaving only the target behind. If I'm working the surfline, I'll dump the sand from the scoop just above water level, rescan, and retrieve the target. This technique is very efficient but requires the right scoop. My large holed Stavr scoop, including carbon fiber handle, is only 3 lbs 4 oz.

I had a conversation with someone who bought one in the first batch. He said it was a couple days before he got a tracking number although he felt it shipped the day he ordered it. He received it in 6 business days by UPS.

Assuming they are all going by UPS, anyone who has signed-up for an online account with UPS can view all inbound packages, even without a Tracking#. My order is also showing as "Shipped", by Cabelas but as of now I have nothing inbound from UPS... I will keep any eye out today and tomorrow.

I received my Equinox 600 on the 6th business day from Cabelas. Their website never gave me a tracking # after it shipped. I did use the chat box to obtain the tracking # but it was not available until after a couple days in shipped status. Drop shipped from Minelab Americas, Naperville, IL. UPS ground. I'll never pre-pay/pre-order a detector again. A lot of misinformation from the dealer IME. Will not get into specifics here. Not sure if it was coming from Minelab or if the dealer was just stringing me along...with my $ in his pocket.

JP, how did Minelab ship yours? USPS, UPS or FedEx?

I agree, I'll never pre-order a detector either... Every time I did that in the past it seemed like everyone else received their equipment well before me.
