So, offline we have established that it is the same spot.

People who have used a GB Pro - would these type of bits of gold get picked up by it?  Rough, quartz speccies mainly.

In my opinion only, the bits Northeast is showing are enough they should register on nearly every detector and perhaps all detectors out there -- as long as the bits are at or very near the surface.. These bits are meaty enough it shouldn't be a matter of kHz but rather a matter of overburden.. It wouldn't take very much covering of even milder ground for the lowest kHz machines to begin not being able to see the bits.. It shouldn't be a problem for every detector mentioned thusfar to hit on these bits, relative to depth and type of ground of course..

If Gary Drayton found it on Oak Island he'd be claiming "Templar, baby!"  ?

    Naaah..
    Gary'd say: 'Oooo, that's old!'
Rick would say: 'I just saw this design on a Templar prison wall in France last week..'

  3. The best Aussie Factual Gold Hunting I ever watched was the last year the GoldHounds shot vid.. Too bad the necessity of needing to be a videographer as well as a juggler was cutting sooo deeply into their daily time with ear's on.. That plus considering as little wide angle terrain as they showed other's were still able to determine approx where they were, although I'm not quite sure how those others planned to gain access while still expecting to live to a ripe old age..

Be that as it may, those gents could find some hunka-chunka chunkies! I could easily digest X 44 minute shows a season of them @ hunt & recovery..

aquachiggers river crossing cache was an epic find.  Glad he got this gig, he was running out of steam on his more recent Youtube videos IMO.

Yup, yup.. It was that find that got me to watching some of his vids.. He was good up through the Alaska trip.. Things started getting a bit off around the time of the overseas trip though, not of his doing the way I saw it.. Glad he got a pro break.. Should relate well in the show..

  5. If y'all would like to see one kind of a beach renourishment project taking place as it happens, click: https://www.surfguru.com/ Scroll pointer to cams > Florida > Central Florida then click on either Cocoa Beach Pier or Cocoa Beach Pier North.. Click triangle in middle of vid screen to start the live feed.. Go to outside bottom left and click on get camera control.. A dropdown will appear on outside bottom right.. Go to it and click on Beach North..

It's just coming into view on the Cocoa Beach Pier cam.. If you're on the Cocoa Beach Pier North cam the 'line' or 'hump' you see N-S in the middle of the beach is where they're burying an approx 4' diameter pipe, main purpose of which is to divert runout downward to hinder outflow erosion..

Detecting behind the work area is near impossible -- hot rocks and other false "hit" and chatter-producing anomolies become the rule rather than the exception..

...What I found curious with Mark's results was that he couldn't scratch the object with a knife or razor blade but then the Rockwell C hardness was only 33.  That is well below knife steel (I think)...

I saw that and wondered the same thing too.. I did come across knife steel somewhere, could find it again in my history I'd think -- seems to me for real deal stuff it started around 56 & went up from there (I don't like tossing around unconfirmed info, but just did lol..)

The ID thing just went sailing overtop a mah haid in the moment; I was only looking right at them the whole time geez..

I grew up in Florida where we had big banana spiders that could make a web across a path in just a couple of hours and there was many a time of walking or running a normal path when you found yourself covered in web.  You felt like you had to fight your way out.

They're still here.. Try fighting your way out of one after you've plowed into it half-drunk on a motorcycle on a sand lane heading out to hardtop from a bonfire on the beach.. ( It should be noted though this took place back when it was still sorta ok to be driving half drunk and considered normal surfing a street bike through 3/4 mi of sand ruts.. )

...It is non-ferrous and the chief machinist where I work is going to check the metal with a hardness analyzer, what ever that is.  Once I have a hardness value I'll be able to compare that to known metal hardness values...

Hi.. We're going to need a bit more input from your chief machinist: Upon which scale is " 33 " based?, meaning Rockwell A, Rockwell B etc., not bathroom or gram.. The machine and method used too please..

It should be mentioned the " 33 " could be inexact regardless which scale was used, primarily due to during setup for greatest accuracy a painfully flat standardized material is used.. It takes only a slight variance at the subject test point to throw off the reading 10 points.. Just saying, while assuming accuracy..

I have no idea what " ID = 12 " is supposed to represent..

Not wanting to be a bummer here, merely pointing out we're still missing some vital information to name it and claim it..

Here's a couple charts that hopefully will be helpful up the road:

  9. Mannnn, talk about being nearly as far NE in the Gold-Pyrite Belt as is possible to get..?! Kewl..!

And I as well could be forced into learning to deal with dipping a pan off my back porch..

Yes, please do keep us updated as you move forward.. I'm thinking if the old-timers did their job well there should be no more major auferous veining for you to find.. But that doesn't mean they did; nor does it mean there isn't plenty more Au yet to be had, as you're already showing..

While exploring, do include trying to locate their mining dump site(s).. Depending how coarse they crushed there could be a goodly amount of gold still locked up in tailings etc..

Hoping you're able to locate sources and/or accumulation points..

swamp, it’s about offering opinions and advice, and not everyone need agree with you. You offer your options, others offer theirs, let the viewer decide.

There is no need to get attached to our advice or comments and then have to defend them. I gave that all up personally. I just offer whatever I have to offer, but I am not going to defend or argue.

You are right, it’s a deep subject and one I may dive into as this thread progresses. It’s actually a balancing act for reasons you just described. Since the poster is doing well already it seems to me an opportunity to tweak the operation perhaps. Or not. But either way it’s no big deal.

Just me dropping by sharing chill pills... I got a 55 gallon drum of them and happy to share!  I appreciate your contributions ?

You're correct, of course.. The above was typed at 5AM when I got up to, welll, not type the above..

Looking at it now I'm fairly sure alaskaseeker saw "fine gold" and set about describing best recovery practices without considering the entire setup whereas I saw it as him telling another it was ok to interchange a part onto floats not designed to support it -- a prelude to disaster..

Also, when I said move more material I did not mean through the existing setup; I meant larger dredge.. But that didn't mean get a larger dredge either since I believe smaller nozzles do better in fines -- less disruption in sluice = better recovery moving less material, a net positive as long as one can get back for the remainder..

Anyhowww, thanks for reaching in and awarding reality checks.. Much appreciated..!

I agree totally with alaskaseeker. If dealing with fine gold you can never have too much box. The more gentle the water flow & the further it has to travel & settle out the better for fine gold recovery. Classification & gentle flow is the key for fine gold, most definitely. Not volume & water pressure to move on the bigger rocks & stones or you blow the fines right on thru.

    Good luck out there.

Absolutely, if you are recovering fine gold you can't have enough sluice, also you need the best mat the full length of your box..Actually the triple sluices worked very well as the fine gold was transferred to these side boxes where the water slowed giving the fines a better chance to drop out..taken out of the crashing mainstream gives you a better fines  recovery rate. You will read about undercurrents the old timers constructed to recover more fines, this is the same process slow the water down .....If you read about the old time dredges some of them had an awful lot of sluice box in them.. Another thing you can do is experiment with sluice plates with different size holes you can make these yourself......

These are a couple good examples of why I don't generally respond to questions, especially questions of this nature: Because in order to give a proper answer one needs to write a friggin' book examining and explaining the pros and cons of just about everything having to do with the recovery of fine gold..

First off let me say I know of and respect both these gentlemen.. But..!

Yes, it's true: One can never have too much sluice box when it comes to recovering every bit of Au running through it's length..

And therein lay the first rub: Length.. This post is about width.. It's also about addressing if it's alright to upset the balance of a well designed and well operating machine and a couple other truths and assumptions that will be addressed forthcoming..

Sure, we can go onto the net right now and find video of a person chasing Lake Superior gold who's running a four-stack Gold Cube, another approx. 20' of Gold Hog sluice and their mixed matting and he's still not capturing every bit of those fines.. Cut to home cleanup of cons and halfway through an 1/3rd full 2 gal bucket he's recovered 2 grams.. Dean states he's doing that well in, what, 3' of sluice, maybe 4'..?

Which brings us to rub #2: The Law of Diminishing Returns.. 'Nuf sed about that, yes..?

And a couple of assumptions: I was assuming Dean Stone is backpacking and carrying everything in in one trip & really doesn't want to make a second trip and further assuming he is already running Gold Hog matting.. I'd already be running Gold Hog matting in this situation; wouldn't all of you as well..?

This is far as I'm going to go.. I was responding both written and inferred to specific points in regard to a specific circumstance.. I was not responding to how to capture every last drop of fine gold using a triple stage or a permanent / semi-permanent sluice run consisting of three stages..

  12. I'm curious about the boulder under bedrock..?

Be that as it may or may not be -- when you are saying boulder are they round or angular..? And if round are rounded cobbles interspersed as well..?

What I'm trying to understand / figure out is if you might have an ancient river channel through your property..? If others worked the property back in the day I figure clues would be exposed.. But I really don't see anything along that line except maybe something happening in the 3rd photo rounded-wise..?

Can you take & post a photo of the boulders..?

More later -- must jet for a bit..
