  1. I've used trond on early 2018 equinox with no issues.  I currently have a jan 2019 nox 600 and same trond headphones wont pair.  one time they did pair when i was pairing them to my cell at same time and was crackly audio.  tried to repair cleanly again and wont pair.  works great otherwise on other devices no issues.  I suspect minelab changed their radio/chipset for headphones.

I looked at those too and would have bought them, but the reviews said that it has a very heavy bass boost "feature" that can't be adjusted or turned off.  If anything, I need a "treble" boost to compensate for some hearing loss I have and to better respond to the typical frequencies in detector audio.  Too much bass and you could get hum, pop, and loud low iron tones.

I agree the Avantrees aren't super rugged.  Very light and comfortable, though.

Is it possible to turn off the bass boost?  The reviews said no, but maybe you found out differently, because these otherwise look like great headphones.

they sound same as wired phones to me.  no clue on bass issue.  iron tone is fine.

When I programmed my CTX, one of the things I wish it offered was a 6th tone bank with ability to customize.  Or said another way, a ferrous bank, and 5 non-ferrous banks (or more).  This may have been addressed or answered in another thread, but is the E800 capable of creating more than 5 customized tone sections on the "ID-ometer".  The great video by Bill S shows how to move each of the sections in 5 tone, and change the tone and volume for each... which I will make some similar adjustments when I finally get my E800... but it leaves me wanting just a skosh more... one more section for those dime/quarter/silver tones (in my soil), so I can differentiate between copper (Indian Head to Lincoln cent) and clad dimes/quarters/halves/dollar - silver coins (understanding some thin silver coins may hit down in the copper or even zinc range).  I have a tendency to dig almost anything at and over a nickel tone, so this isn't a huge issue for me... and of course the 50 tone will give a calibrated range of tones from bottom to top... but having that sweet high tone jump out above all others would be a nice thing. :)

    Tim.

If you are ok with discriminating out iron or hearing it as the same tone foil you could adjust the Fe or T1 tone break as just below nickel.

I am sure Minelab would rather everyone get an Equinox 800 since the production cost of the two detectors is probably identical. Most people will anyway. For the vast majority of detectorists out there I just think the Equinox 600 is the real killer value as it will find most anything the Equinox 800 will find for $250 less. The feature list is truly remarkable for $649.

Yep, unfortunately, the 600 is in less supply than 800 though.   Great value comes with great wait apparently.  :(

If the dealer ordered 100 they got 5.  Ordered 20 they got 1.  Any dealer under 20 pre-orders got none.

That's not entirely true.  Every dealer will get one if they pre-ordered any at all.  Then X more depending on quantity but not necessarily a set percentage. But yes there was a formula to distribute and the simplified statement you were given is an easier way for people to understand just not 100% true.

I never said Minelab was "forcing" this on dealers.  Let's try to explain it this way.  Let's say you are Minelab.  Your dealers are reporting a total of 10,000 preorders, yet your first shipment is only going to be 500.  What do you do?   First off, you know that prepaid orders are firm orders that have been placed at one dealer by one customer wanting one detector, so basically a sure thing that the accountants and shipping departments can count on.  Contrast this to an unpaid preorder.  An unpaid preorder only takes a phone call or an email to make, with no commitment of money.  That means it can be cancelled at any time.  This is MUCH less certain, so should carry much less weight when allocating detectors to individual dealers.  The dealer that has 20 prepaid on full orders vs the dealer that 50 unpaid orders, who are you going to allocate more detectors to?

Additionally, many prospective purchasers have placed multiple unpaid preorders with the intention of seeing which dealer comes through first and then will simply cancel the other orders.  I know this is going on, because many posters on the forums have openly stated that is exactly what they are doing!  And there's nothing wrong with that, it is simply one way to try to game the system, which is perfectly legal in a free market.  So that's many duplicate orders right there.

So back to the dealer that has 20 prepaid orders, which are a sure thing vs 50 unpaid orders at another dealer.  Out of that 50, maybe 10 will actually end up buying from that dealer (just guessing, but I'm just trying to illustrate my point).  Minelab would likely end up shipping twice the number of detectors out of the first batch to the dealer with prepaid orders.

Finally, this situation of a huge shortage was not known back in September when dealers started taking preorders.  Nobody knew if Minelab would be able to quickly meet initial preorder demand or not.  The demand turned out to be unprecedented, likely catching Minelab behind the curve with production capacity unable to quickly match the huge preorder demand.  So back to what Minelab should do?  They have to decide on a fair allocation among dealers and the dealers that have a large number of prepaid preorders are going to get a higher allocation than dealers who do not.  And we're talking only 1-4 detectors per dealer, so even many of the prepaid preorders aren't going to be filled in this first batch, and the individual dealers are going to have to start at the top of their list and work down.

The dealers that took prepaid preorders were probably just more savvy and had a better idea of how large the demand would be versus the initial supply and wanted to do right by their customers just in case there turned out to be a shortage and knowing how basic supply chain management works.  If these dealers were being overly cautious and it turned out everybody was going to get their preoprders, prepaid or not, in the initial batch, then there would be no harm no foul, everybody would be getting their detectors.  But just in case there was a shortage, these dealers who had their customers prepay, ended up being the smart ones since it was entirely forseable that should their be a shortage, the fair way to allocate would be by looking at the number of actual prepaid hard/confirmed orders.  As it turned out, these dealers were the savvy ones, because when it came time to allocate a tiny number of initial detectors, Minelab did end up taking into consideration how many paid up-front preorders each dealer had.  They may have even asked, but not demanded, that each dealer take care of their fully paid up front customers first, which only seems fair.

This seems totally logical and reasonable to me.

Minelab has no idea if a customer paid dealer or not.  Not their financial relationship.   Minelab fills distributor orders.  Distributor fills dealer orders(still doesnt know or care who prepaid).  Some distributors are great and will drop ship individual orders that were back orders (pre orders) instead of send to dealer because they rock and want happy dealers and ultimately end users.  I suspect some of you with UPS tracking is coming from fort worth area.  Best distro in the country.

Minelab did do extra work with distributors to determine individual dealer quanties to ensure everyone got one first then a percentage of some kind based off total after that.  Hense some dealers got 1 and some a few.  They dont normally do that and went the extra mile in my opinion. BUT guess what.  They still had no idea or care who pre paid or not.  They get paid from distro on their own individual terms not end user.  Its not rocket science.  Pretty straight forward.

Welcome to the 'fire storm' that Steve anticipated.

Do you think Minelab should take the time from their busy schedule to take my phone call and ask them where MY unit is?  Just as soon as they take MY call then it makes YOUR unit get to you more slowly!

Minelab (any company that has a distribution network) needs to deal in bulk.  They design, test, manufacture and package metal detectors.  Their DEALERS sell them.  They have to use the people they have to do what they do best.

Steve said it.  There are not enough detectors to instantly fill the demand.  Why?  Well, just think of the financing cost of prepaying all of the materials and shipping.  It is simply not possible to take a company who produces dozens or hundreds of units a month to ramp up and produce tens of thousands of units.  What do you do with that production over-capacity when you meet the demand?

Minelab told the dealers they would have a pecking order.  That order was based upon deposits on hand.  Some dealers followed the rules and perhaps some did not.  We don't know for sure.

Minelab has put out several new detectors and new detector technologies in the last 5 years.  It seems that they have learned and taken some of our advice and that of their testers and dealers and created what may be the highest selling detector ever.  Good on Minelab for that.  I trusted this early on when I read what Steve had to say and placed an order.

My dealer told me Minelab would respond to him better and send my detector if I reduced it to a deposit.  That has been done and I hope to get my detector next week.  We'll see how good it is in my hands after that.

Bill tells me that they are within a week of a plan they put into effect last fall.  I'm satisfied.

    Mitchel

That deposit talk and priority things sound like a lot of hogwash.  No offense.  I don't sell Minelab but zero other manufacturers/distributors work that way.

Now I will say some distributors and manufacturers are better at logistics than others so I can see why some dealers have one message and others have a different message.

I can't say being I never had a Treasure Pro but I do have the MX Sport and it works for me. I think that's what it's all about what you don't like and what I don't like too but here comes this guy is crazy about it. Now if I could have my way all would come with a straight shaft and a stand that keep it out of the dirt.

I just don't understand why they don't call me before they put a model out.

    Here's my number B R 5-5555.

    Chuck

PS The B R may be over some kids but when dial first came out you had to dial two letters first before the number. The type of equipment was called a step office back when. History Lesson.

MX Sport has a proper angle.  This one looks like it has the treasure pro/mx 5 grip angle that is too forward or obtuse of an angle.

  9. The F44 has a special too.  Free 4" coil, hat, pouch.  Being an original omega 8000 user I've never been too pleased with the 8500 and newer F series on the same platform.  They lost that mojo that the f5/o8/g2/f19 had.  I would love an Omega 8000 and G2+ combined in one machine WITHOUT changing their performance/response.  Heck make it waterproof and sell it $699 MAP.  Seems to be the market trend now.

    Hi Craig,

There are probably going to be grumpy XP owners who feel like the coin crowd is getting the back seat on this one. As a gold guy who has been critical of the DEUS in the past however this is the one I have been waiting for. Now you are making me have to go prove I can hunt coins decently at 14 khz however as I love a contrarian challenge! That being a classic MXT frequency it can't be that bad. Maybe not for depth but separation in trash usually improves at higher frequencies.

    Thanks for the update!

It's not bad.  It just still has an affinity to call modern aluminum trash coins like 18khz does.  I do like the fast response and crisp audio.  One could certainly do well with it.  Just avoid modern trashy parks unless you like frustration.  Or a "challenge" as you call it.  :)

  11. XP had a last call for beta feedback on friday.

Steve, I've done two short hunts 9" hf on 14khz and to me it feels a lot more like 18khz than it does 12khz.  As a coin guy that pretty much voids any desire for the hf coils.  Not that I expected differently.

Not seeing a lot of depth increase in new deep program.  It certainly amps up the gain but actual depth gain isnt much.  Absolutely love Garys hot program with v4 and negative disc.  I wasnt a fan of full tones before but targets really pop in that program now.  Pitch program is pretty much 2 tone vco all metal now.

At times when using all the new items like smart phone blutooth connection, ws4's, coil, remote, pointer I've seen some odd switch back and forth delay with the headphones and pinpoint mode on and off.  Hopefully if was just me or in my situations.  Re-pairing items clears it up but shouldnt be necessary.

  12. Sorry I havent gotten more updates up.  I accidently bricked my coil downgrading to v3.2 with 3.2 update softwar and v4 coil paired.  The v4 update software recognizes v4 coils and doesnt try to push down grade to it like 3.2 installer did.  Oops...now i wait and see if it can be recovered.  Had i realizes 3.2 (and 2.0 for that matter) were options in the new installer it could have been avoided.  So there is some tester advice.  Only use the new installer to be safe.  Hope I'm not stuck with a $425 paper weight.
