  1. Norvic, thanks for the tip, I will try that.

In HYield mode I hear slight warbles, that most times turn into hot ground or rocks and sometimes gold. Where I hunt there is a lot of smaller gold with larger nuggets here and there. I've found all the shallow gold. But the deeper gold is what I'm after now. Sometimes I will dig a whisper and it turns out to be a deeper nugget. I'm hoping the General will help to better define those deeper nuggets.

  2. The GPZ documentation states that General mode punches deeper and Extra Deep punches even deeper than High Yield mode. I've hammered a patch in High Yield and today will switch to General mode and regrid, and will repeat in Extra Deep.

Has anyone out there had success with this, and if so, are the deeper targets more defined in these 2 deeper modes, any tricks to listen for?

Or are these deeper modes only for larger nuggets, will the 2 modes punch deeper for smaller nuggets too?

  3. Steve, have you tried manual ground balance? For me and the sites I have hunted with the GPZ, I have not found one additional nugget in manual grd balance that I could not detect in with Auto Grd Balance turned on.

There is something to be said by gridding a patch over and over turning up the settings and seeing the difference when running it hot opposed to running more quiet.

I hunted for the first 3 days in the default modes, then turned up the settings little by little, going over the same ground over and over, and found more gold and deeper gold with the settings turned higher and higher.

There is only one mode I wish the GPZ had, and that is a discrimination mode, even if the depth was half in the desc mode, it would be worth it. if I hit an area with large surface targets, it would be nice to be able to switch to a desc mode that will tell me if the shallow surface targets are worth digging.

  4. To the Minelab Team/s a big thank you, the GPZ is a HOMERUN. Proof is in the results. And I got results in only one week, I'm well on my way to recouping what I paid for the GPZ, which by the way is worth it. I could write pages of the all the things I like about it. Just hope Minelab releases coil cover replacements before I wear mine out.

JP, your last video was awesome, and taught me to listen in a different way, and I got results. Thank You very much. You rock man.

  5. Clark it was nice talking with you at the restaurant in lovelock, This is Scott, I looked around for you on Saturday, but its such a big place. I moved around a lot exploring different washes, since it was only my 3rd time hunting Rye Patch. Ended up with 8 nuggets, for a total of 2.1 dwts. Was listening for the deep big one but it just wasn't in the cards for me that trip. Maybe next time. Let me know the next time you take a trip up there, if I'm available we could hunt together. Now that I'm tuned in to the best settings for me on the GPZ, I think I could do better next trip.

  6. Steve, glad to hear you bought one. I also bought one, hope to be receiving it this week. Then let the games begin. In my opinion I think Minelab has put a lot of thought and work into this machine. If I was a stockholder in Minelab, I would be proud of this new detector.

I am curious about one thing about the 7000, and that is what kinds of software mods and feature adds are possible from Minelab with the existing circuit boards in the unit. If any.

  7. The GPZ looks to be like a CTX, which is ergonomically very comfortable. I can hunt all day with my CTX and not get very tired. Its a good balanced design.

From what I can tell the GPZ looks like a home run for Minelab. Since I am a serious detectorist, I will be buying one.

I'm very happy Minelab decided to add more depth to their gold machine, perhaps they will do the same for their next coin detector also. I really like the direction Minelab detectors are going.
