Steve,
The more I use the machine, the better I will hopefully be able at operating it. So when I might finally be over a nugget I should be able to recover it :)
Only a matter of time and location!

Well I have had the GM out a few times in random spots around Whitehorse and my claim and still haven't found any gold. Not because the GM doesn't work but because frankly I'm not over gold. Kinda in a heavily glaciated area.
Looking forward to vacation in the Southern Okanagan in a few weeks. There are two public panning reserves within an hour drive that the province owns and metal detectors are allowed. Princeton (Gold/Platinum) and Kettle Valley (Gold)
Otherwise have found bullet casings, coins, broken pieces of lead and aluminum, beer cans, pop tops and pull tabs, foil like crazy and sometimes big bolts or thick pieces of rusted broken iron and fuel drums which false signal to me as non ferrous.
And this rock with a neat deposit on it.
Also discovered you can't use it near a bear fence, it definetly interferes.
Happy Hunting Everyone!

Yes, we are blessed here in New Zealand that we have no critters, animals or creepy crawlies that can rip your head off, sting, bite, poison or generally threaten or take your life. The climate is pretty good too all up. May be a little too cold this time of the year where I am for our Aussie cousins across the ditch.
It isnt hard to dress for the cool though. A lot easier than dealing with the heat of an outback summer in Aussie or in the Arizona desert. Cheers.
Good luck out there
JW
Dressing for -40 is a bit tougher. Phobias: Winter (October-May) up here since the ground is frozen and buried under a lot of snow, Bull Moose in the Rutt. Mountain Lions.
General question from everyone, will the shotgun I have slung on my back cause interference to the detector? I know my steel toed boots did, but that's a lot closer to the coil.
-
JW, any similar offerings in New Zealand?
NZ has a climate more suitable to me and way way less organisms of one form or another that can uhh poison you???

Deep cycle battery or batteries in parallel plus solar panel?
Wonder how it would work with a 2" Honda transfer pump with a pressure/flow bleeder line on idle.

Thanks Chris, very helpful video for me :-) I was doing some things wrong. Think I've watched it 5 times by now.

Finally the GM has arrived up in the Yukon yesterday and I managed to get today off. Off to the claim I went.
Skunked. First found a .22 Short casing under moss, then a shard of bullet about 4" in gravel. Both sounded off loud with consistent right readings. Also found a 1972 Canadian dime on way home at a river crossing on edge of the river and panned one solid signal and found three colours. Oh and a 1 1/4" rusted steel nut.
I'm thinking I need a new pair of hiking boots. Pretty sure the "steel" toe boots I was wearing was screwing up the detector. Scanned the toes and it banged hard non ferrous.
Steve, no graphite so far... And worthwhile visible gold. Ran it mainly in Auto plus and Iron reject with full volume on the external speaker.
But at least I got out of town and had fun. Better luck next time I hope :)

Finally got a tracking number and my Monster should be in town by Wednesday. Can't wait to test it out next weekend :)

Hi Johnedoe, beautiful fine gold!
Have you access to a Short Wave UV light? Those non-magnetic heavies might glow some funky colours. Otherwise could be Tin or Zinc predominately?

Hi Rivers Rat,
The gravels are loaded into the grey plastic parts bin up on top, 3 gal/50 lbs a time after climbing a 6' ladder.
I uploaded a video to YouTube of it to keep down on Steve's data use.

Thanks Matt!
The plastic bin up top is the mucking stage, it's got spray bars in it to saturate the material and break down the gold stealing clays. Which is why the bigger tailings are so clean.
Then it's screened to an inch, then to 1/4 inch. With the middlings running through a nugget catch. No nuggets found yet.
Sub 1/4 inch then is sluiced through a 12" wide sluice x 60" of recovery area 1 10 H expanded metal with noodle mat, then through the Keene A52 with 3M miners moss.
Unfortunately I am going to retire this rig in favour for a lower mucking bin and only classify to somewhere between 1/4" and 1/2". Thinking a BBQ grill with the ends cut off to not get roots building up. Schlepping a couple tons, 50lbs a time, of feed stock 6' up a ladder is painful and clearing caught up roots between pails is inefficient.
-
On a side note Steve,
I bought my first sluice, a Keene A52 hand sluice, from AMDS back in 2010 when on my first and so far only trip to Anchorage. You built an awesome store, and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Definetly a good reason to go back there, once the exchange rate improves.
Cheers!
It's now the secondary recovery section on my wash plant setup.

Thanks Steve.
I will for sure report how the Gold Monster performs here. Hopefully graphite rocks won't be an issue here since I definetly cannot afford a Zed at this time lol
The area is within a granite batholith intrusion with hypothermal gold/silver vein hard rock deposits and also lead zinc occurances. Haven't seen any shale like rocks, just some sandstone rocks, otherwise predominately granites.

I am still impatiently waiting for mine to arrive. Ordered in Mid May. The dealer in Calgary AB still hasn't received it's shipment, then four days at least on Canada Post from there.
Very curious how well this will perform on my claim. Tons of hot rocks up there and small gold. Tried using the original White's Gold Master a few years ago to no success. Joys of prospecting in the caldera of a collapsed stratovolcano ;-)

Has anyone tried Dunlop boots? Very popular with field geologists up here, but they have steel toed versions usually. Probably too hot for the desert.
