I have Tuesday off. Will hit the beach but might cheat on the Equinox and hang out with Miss Explorer 11

I could SO blackmail y'all!  Might have to start a gofundme for my new pin pointer.  My silence for a $5 donation.

Thats me single for life then round here . They all look as detectorists like we are weirdos in my neck of the woods.

I'm sorry, Nuke.  Is there a detecting club in your town that you could join?  Surely there would be a few girls there?

  3. Here's some free advice for you single guys.  If you're the outdoorsey type, don't marry a prissy little cheerleader.  If you're interested in a girl, take her hunting or fishing or metal detecting on your first date. If she squeals like a banshee the first time she gets a lil' mud on her, then she ain't the one.

Spot on.  I’ve had a AT Gold for sale for a month now. Not a nibble but I refuse to give it away.  Usually when you sell a used machine you have to pile on so many extra coils and other accessories that they become more valuable than the detector.  Probably will just start keeping my older detectors and hope I can develop an interest toward detecting with my grand daughters as they get older.

Exactly!  My old DFX will be a great machine for my grandson to learn on.  If he likes the hobby as much as Granny, then we'll get him an Equinox 2000 in a few years.

  5. Hi Ya'll!  I'm planning my Big Montana Adventure this summer and looking at Montana Cadastral and Google Earth for potential detecting spots.  I'm seeing lots of interesting tailing and dredge piles on Google Earth in some of the former placer and pit mining areas (now BLM land).  But then when I read the history of the particular mining operation I see that most of them have been gone over twice-once with a rock crusher/arastra type outfit, then again with cyanide or mercury extraction.  So is tailing pile material still worth going over with a detector if it's already been worked over with the chemical extraction methods like cyanide?  Or, as I suspect, would there be nothing left big enough to be found by a detector?  Would it even be safe to detect in these areas, or has the cyanide/mercury leached away decades ago?  Please excuse my ignorance as I am a newbie to this gold mining stuff. Thanks guys!

That’s even better!  Now you HAVE to buy a toy.  You have to be familiar with what your selling and have stock.

Oh, I'm not a detector dealer.  My fun photography hobby turned into not-so-fun MedStockPhotos.com.

  7. When you get one of your detectors you need to exit the house with it and loudly announce that you are going hunting.  Then drive straight to the nearest pawn shop and buy the most reasonably priced, yet gaudy, diamond ring they have.  Bring it back with you a couple of hours later and say you "found it", then present it to her.  No need to say you "found it" in a pawn shop, that's just TMI.  Some dirt or sand between the stones would be a nice touch.  Oh, and be sure and get rid of any "evidence" like a pawn shop receipt.  Problem solved, and she'll be pushing you out the door as long as you bring back some bling occasionally.

YW, and that'll be $30.  Cheaper than a therapist or a divorce lawyer.

  8. So if you're listening to your 800 be-bopping down the beach and you get a call, the 800 tones will be muted and the call notification will come through.

But of you're listening to say, Coldplay or Imagine Dragons through your headphones, you won't hear any beeps from your 800 no matter what.

It would really be cool if you could listen to music until you get a signal from your 800.  Sometimes I walk a mile with nary a peep out of my Infinium.

The true meaning of Coke here in the UK is better known as cinders or partially burnt coal and which is the ashes from coal burning home fires and were used in the old toilets (Middens) where the ashes were sprinkled on human waste in the dry closets to keep fly's off the poo, these middens were shoveled out once a week and taken to the local farms for manure to be spread on the fields, another source of coke is from the ash pans of the ancient steam engines which were used to pull an agriculture plough (Plow In USA) and for driving threshing machines and baling machines.

Thanks for the info, Randy.  I was thinking coke was some kind of low-grade iron ore type stuff.  And thanks to the Forum Elf for fixing my link so the video(s) would show.

  10. Neil just put this on Facebook for one of those Naysayer Nellies.  I hope the link comes through and it's ok to post here.  Steve can delete it if it's not, but this was amazing to me.  Ok, I'm easily impressed.  I can't wait to see what my 800 will do in that Montana metallic dirt.

I just got PRK eye surgery done so i can't see anything anyway. My surgery was the actual push I needed to just wait for the EQ release as my 1st md instead of picking up an at pro/max on the used market

I feel for you, since I had PRK about 5 years ago.  It was weeks before I could see well enough to go detecting.  But my eyes were really bad before the surgery.  My biggest problem now is dry eyes, which slowly seems to be getting a bit better.  If there's anything I can help you with, please feel free to PM me!

Production began today on the Tek version. Don't know if any shipped. Fisher next week.

The delay was two-fold. First, when units from the pilot run were water-tested a few failed at 10 feet. We determined that the Gore membrane isn't reliable to 10 feet, so we backed off to a 6 foot rating. Second, the overmolded plastic was difficult to get right, and to make that job worse the molder (USA, not China) shut down for Christmas. But what I saw today was really nice and worth the extra wait.

Thanks, Carl.  If I'm reading Steve's posts right, the Tek and the Fisher are identical except for the paint job?  I'm hoping I can order one or the other next week so it will be here to greet my new EQ 800.  I don't think my EQ and my Sun-ray pinpointer are going to play very well together.

It's a shame because I love the thing and it's the main reason I've kept that DFX around for 15 years.

  13. Dear MineLab,

I feel that I must inform you-all of my most unfortunate situation.  You see, I have this fatal illness and only 2 weeks to live.  My last and most fervent wish is to get my 800 before I go to that big ole beach in the sky.

PS.  My turrible disease manifests itself with no outward symptoms and would in no way impede my ability to swing my Nox (for 2 weeks).  Thanks.  Mailing address to follow.

PPS.  Adolf says I can have his.
