These gold chains were all found with the Nox. Only 1 in the water and the rest buried in wet salt sand. Only several inches on any of them. The one on the top did have an attached heart so that was helpful as I'm sure that fine chain wouldn't have been picked up alone.

Seriously impressive okara gold- congrats! I would think that most gold chains are found in the wet sand when conditions have swept away a lot of those competing single digit TIDs like foil and small aluminum bits.

My   friend  Tony  is the one who made grave-digger max his titanium     scoop as a  gift.He made me a mertich pull sifter also as a gift.I pulled very small gold,a few chains, coins, and lots of glass on the beach. Also pulled  out bottle caps galore.I even took it in the water one time and got a silver ring even though water ones are smaller. Mine was 30 inches wide. You have to pace  yourself  with this machine. It is  Hard work.I need to get it fixed .

Thanks Dances with Doves, I will only be in the fresh water lake with it for now. Yes 30" might be too wide for the water and I will definitely pace myself- not as young or fit as I was when I used to do this!

Up until the Nox I would have said you might find some but that Nox loves chains. Good Luck and keep us informed..

Thanks Joe, That is the main reason I got the Nox but I use it in fresh water where there seems to be a LOT of competing targets with those single digits TIDs. Never seen another detector in this particular spot in more than 20 years so I think the gold chains are still there.

That would be a winning hunt in my book!

I think i see a small bracelet with pearl on it! And an earring! And a small button thing above it!  What are they? Junk jewelry? Show us all the rings! And i see a large spike, or square nail! What is that?👍👍

Here you go Joe although gold would look nicer.

  5. "Those 7 hunts I dug about 4 pieces but I was only digging deep targets at all of these spots. Passing by all shallow targets..also I would say I only used the reject settings about 2 hours out of 25 hours?"

With some detectors it seems more difficult to judge the depth of targets from the sound. Perhaps you have already mentioned it but it seems that it isn't an issue with the Impulse AQ?

That's a good question...I'm going to say 2? possibly...really hard to say all were deeper then normal seemed....except the one I found in mute...and that one was around 10 inch's. 2 scoops...So the class ring and the broken band that was found at 10 inch's in mute mod. I went back thru the one beach which had several shallow targets just to see if any of them were good ...nothing. Crazy was walking into the place and the holes were deep, like fall in deep.

I can't tell you how many times I have dug deep silver quarters or deep targets only to find a small gold ring in the sand beside the hole. My thinking this machine will find those..unheard small rings.

Thanks for the reply OBN because I realize it is difficult to say for sure. However, all these bits of information on the AQ put together are painting a picture and I'm enjoying the view. Continued best of luck!

Great hunt as since the lock down just who has been at the beach.

There are no crowded beaches and won't be for a while, so I know that you had a very good hunt and some nice finds.

Wish you luck on your next outing.

Thanks 2Valen, I guess it depends on where you live- some beaches are taped off and monitored while others seem like opening day at the county fair (which was also cancelled this year)!

    Thank's Compass,

Im already learning from you! I had a similar hunt just yesterday; but without the gold!😂  I will try the Gold 2 mode on my next fresh water hunt! Nice finds!👍👍

You are welcome Joe and I'm glad I could contribute. I have also learned from others here - it's a great resource!

  9. I hope that it is okay to revive this older thread as it pertains to something I have been working on. Recently I ordered one of these sand combs and I should receive it this week. It is very similar to one that I built in the 80's and used in the lake swim areas to find chains although it found shallow rings and coins as well.

It was hard work and I didn't think it was very efficient but it was fun all the same. Some of you may have seen my post a few days ago about the gold medallions I have found at one particular lake. The hoops are intact so I would assume that the gold chains they were on are somewhere nearby. I made a mental note of the locations and plan on returning to look for the chains with the sand comb. Like I mentioned, it is hard work but at least I won't be going in completely blind and can focus my energy on smaller areas.

In addition to the sand comb I am also eagerly awaiting the arrival of some rake tines similar to the ones in the first video. They are available from Ruslan of Stavr Scoops of Ukraine. I have never used them but I know of a hunter who has found chains with them. He also added that it is pretty challenging physically but, again, I am focusing on small areas where there are higher odds of finding a gold chain.

A friend(and fellow detectorist) and I have dinner bet over my prediction that I can find a gold chain on my first hunt with one of these "primitive" tools. He knows that I will be out there all day if I have to rather than lose a bet so I think he's willing to buy me dinner just to make me suffer. 😉

Good going on the finds.  My wet change has been down low recently also.

We haven't had much energy in the waves lately to dig out those heavy rings and put them on the move.  In my area there is the slope as you described but there is also a layer of living shells capping the sand.  We need some big swells to break that cap and get things moving.

I didn't go out last night but I went out the night before.  As you described there was only a couple of pieces of light jewelry and hardly anything at the top.  I was using the Nox 800/15" which kinda wears me out.  It has to be right over a target for me to see it.  I feel like I know and see better with the 11 and that is what I'll do tonight.

    Mitchel

Thank you Mitchel, Any big swells would probably help both of us since we aren't too far from each other. I only have the 6" and 11" Nox coils but may eventually pick up one of those 15" ones. Good luck tonight and be safe out there!

I  went water hunting yesterday and got no  gold but I did get a  no date-s  standing liberty  quarter,a1905 -o barber quarter,1939  merc plus a no date buffalo.I also got a little silver ring. You  don't have to get gold to have a good day.The place was mobbed  with people  but it always has enough room.I used my Nox.

Thanks  Dances with Doves, How I would love to find old silver coins in freshwater! Most of the lakes I hunt are man-made and maybe around 40-50 years old. For me, finding any silver coin in my lakes is very un-common. To find silver coins, especially older ones would be a real treat. Once in a while I find silver coins at the beach but more often than not they are toasted and a shadow of their condition when lost.

Amen to that...Steve keeps the dogs under control for sure..Thank You.

And a very good day, I'm not a silver person but that stuff does add up, and tells me there is a good chance gold is near..

Thanks OBN, I guess I would have felt closer to the gold if the silver rings I found were tarnished or black. They were most likely recent drops. Still, I felt that gold was a possibility which always makes for a more exciting hunt.

A five ring day is good even if there’s no gold. I prefer to dig no gold than dig one that gets your heart going but at the end it sticks to a magnet 😖 Welcome to a true friendly forum and hope you keep sharing your finds here. Good luck on your next outing.

Thank you Seeker,  What gets me is when I find a tunsten carbide ring in the dark of night. They feel so heavy and smooth and are found where the gold should be. In this same area I once found 10 rings on each of back-to-back nights- 3 gold and most of the rest blackened silver so I guess I might be just a little spoiled.

Thanks Joe, Yes, I was teased some more with the chain bracelet, hoop earring and other piece that were all costume jewelry. I think that the large "spike" piece you are referring to is the handle from some needle nose pliers. I find a lot of pliers from people who surf-fish.

  15. I don't usually like to post a hunt unless I find some gold or something really interesting but I think that it is important to share some of the less than spectacular hunts that are more common.

Yesterday I took the BeachHunter out for a spin for my first beach hunt since the pandemic hit. Even though I'm still leery about going out in public I figured that there wouldn't be too many people on the beach at 1 AM in the morning. There weren't but I was a somewhat surprised to bump into 2 other hunters at that early hour. I guess that they were thinking the same thing that I was- get there 2-3 hours before the negative tide and work my way down the slope.

The beach conditions didn't look too promising judging from some older cuts that had since filled in and sure enough, targets were few and far between. Most of the targets were also lightweight. When the tide retreated I found a deep, small silver ring low on the slope and started to find other rings in the same general area. My headlight went out on me so I couldn't tell if any of them were gold but even when my headlight is working it is often hard to tell in the artificial light.

    IMG_20200621_094228.jpg.7e1b48701cb8b122a598679cb27467bd.jpg

5 rings sounds impressive and I'm happy to get a little silver but I'm about a 45 minute drive from the beach so I didn't cover my gas cost which is kind of my goal every hunt. It may not be realistic but if I average every hunt out this year I am on the good side of things. This may be the fewest number of coins I have found on a hunt this year.

In hindsight I might have been better off looking for fresh drops in the dry sand with the Equinox. The one hunter I spoke with said that he had a couple of rings including a 14K. Still, it was fun to be on the beach again and finding any ring still gets my heart going. GL&HH!

I would think with that kind of "custom" made canoe, an aficionado would pay "big bucks" for it!! Than you could buy a nice "Old Town Canoe", another detector, and still have cash left!🛶💰 Just a thought!👍👍(Yours is seriously to nice!)

Thanks Joe,  You are right, they aren't cheap to buy and not cheap to build (in my case anyway). And what you are saying makes a lot of sense. However, after all the time and effort I have and will put into this project I would like to keep it in the family as long as possible.
