In an interview a while back Dilek said that going forward their new machines would use the existing coil connector and be interchangeable.  Assuming that would mean the Simplex would be compatible with Kruzer/Anfib coils.

Im just curious if the new machine will have a useable volume with their waterproof headphones.   The Kruzer is almost unusable with the w/p headphones unless it’s dead calm. From all reports the Anfib isn’t any better.  Just hoping they use a more powerful op-amp in the future.

I was told by Nokta that the Simplex will NOT be able to use the Kruzer/Anfibio coils. I hope the volume is adequate, I’m going to try to get an adapter cable so I can use my Tony Eisenhower headphones that I use with my Equinox.

  2. I’m considering buying an Anfibio multi and am wondering about it’s abilities in and around saltwater, I know it has a beach mode but do you have to lower the sensitivity much to get it stable? I have an Equinox 600 and it’s a great machine except I live in Canada and find it frustrating on our clad coins, I’ve heard the Anfibio does well on it, the 600 is great in many ways but my buddy finds way more clad with his AT gold but can’t go near the salt, I have used the 600  snorkeling and would also dive with the Anfibio, the fact that it is rated deeper is a bonus along with the collapsible shaft. Anybody have experience with one.

  3. I was thinking about a simple counter weight for a detector that was easy to attach or remove and thought that a Ram mount might work, they come in different lengths, the one pictured is 31/2 in and I have 4oz fishing weight in it, it is very secure, takes seconds to attach, a 6in might be better but I’m sure that with a bit of thought a system could be put together that works well.

  4. I’m new to detecting, about 6 months, I bought an Equinox 600 and it’s a great detector, But wanted a simple machine to keep in the truck for when opportunity arises for a quick hunt and wanted something that works on our horrible Canadian clad, research pointed me to the inexpensive Compadre, couldn’t be happier, love using it, always puts a smile on my face and it does finds the goodies!

Tony Eisenhowers are pretty good for volume for me.  I do have 2 complaints about them though.

    1. The cord is too short for my liking.

    2. They do not fit my head well at all and as far as I can tell, there is no way to adjust them.  If they are, I'd like to know.  I cannot wear them with the headband across the top of my head.  I have to put the band behind my head and then the ear cups do not fit my ears well.

You can adjust each cup, they slide up and down about an inch, look on the inside of the arms where they attach to the cups. I find the cord cord long enough ( I’m 5 10 ) I have used them underwater with my diy 12v hookah and they are loud enough for me but louder would be better.

Voyager32 the settings i started with but tweak a bit based on the park i am at is. Park2, 40khz, 50 tone, Iron bias 2, recovery speed 4.

This hits loonies and toonies as well as newer quarters. They jump a bit but not as much as bottle caps. I do tend to get about 15-25% more bottlecaps in single frequency but in multi i dont think i have ever dug a loonie or toonie.

I mostly use multi in park2 sometimes all metal, in 50 tone, speed 3 (nox 600) iron bias 2 so we’re using similar settings, I have found quite a few loonies and toonies and quarters but it depends on the year, most of the loonies are late 80’s the vdi’s jump around but I’m starting to recognize the sound, bottle caps I listen for the iron grunt or check at 10khz and if the vdi starts jumping into the 20’s it’s a bottle cap, of course that doesn’t help when it comes to aluminum caps lol I hate those things. I have the 6in coil as well and haven’t used the 11in since I got it. The photo is two days of detecting about 5 hours total.

I use single frequency about 50% of the time. I am in Canada and it is really the only effective way of getting modern Canadian coins. It still hits nice deep silver so it is effective for me in a park setting.

what frequency do you find works best for you on our modern coins?

  8. Nice finds, interesting technique for snorkeling, I use a diy 12v hookah, was out to a lake with my 600 and dove in about 7ft of water, I had modified a plug and used waterproof earbuds under my hood, with volume at max was able to hear pretty good even over the noise of the hookah, I like being able to stay down while fanning target. I just received my Waterproof headphones from Tony so will be using them now.

Click on the link that Steve provided, the user answered a few of the questions posted here! ?

He was using headphones, I think you should be able to hear the nox without them, not as well of course but maybe at a usable level, I will buy a pair of headphones if Minelab ever releases them, but it would be nice not to be tethered.

  10. I would be interested in hearing from someone who dove with the Nox but without headphones, volume maxed, can you hear it underwater? I would do it but the water here is still too cold, seems to me you should be able to hear it in a calm lake. I will be diving/ snorkeling with my 600 this summer.

Thank you so much! This is just what I was looking for, I’ve done some testing in my backyard with newer coins but the numbers seem all over, but I may be doing something wrong to cause it, noise cancel and auto ground balance then have a go. I’m a 68year old newbie in the sport lol, should be a lot of fun. Thanks again.

simply not the right machine if you want to dig Cdn clad. I've had mine for a while now and have only found a few of the earlier 'nickel' based clad coins, some by accident, ie co-located with a copper penny.

if you really want to try to ID them then hit the horseshoe button and experiment with where they show up in the ferrous T1 area. I believe the nickel coins bounce around 16-17 or there-a-bout....

sorry I can't help more but I use a dedicated machine for clad....cheers

Thanks for the tip. A bit disappointing to have this cutting edge machine with all the different modes and not be able to utilize them. Hopefully beachmode will be fun and not too frustrating. Now for waterproof headphones.

  13. Looking at the chart it appears that modern Canadian coins would be discriminated out like a nail or screw, what would be the best setting for these? Any Canadian Equinox hunters out there? I’m a retired complete newbie with a 600 looking for any tips to help me along. Also plan to do some snorkeling in lakes and ocean. Thanks

    Welcome to the forum!

You won't hurt the detector submerging it as long as the plug is installed in the earphone port. However, unless you are in very still water I am doubtful about the ability to hear the detector very well underwater. Any sound from surf at all would drown out the detector. Still, it is all speculation until somebody gives it a go. If the water was warmer around here I would try it myself but its not going to happen right now!

Thanks Steve, won’t happen here either for a while, but glad to know it’s possible in a calm lake.
