That's what the dolly is for. Best for front-wheel-drive cars.  We'll tow our car when we go on extended trips so we have an easy way to set up camp with our Motor Home, but be able to jump in the car and go to the store, or do other things without having to break camp and button up the Motor Home each time.  Best thing is that by towing with only the rear wheels on the road, the odometer does not increase!

I got tired of having to load up the car to travel to distant hunts...staying in hotels, and eating in restaurants. Pain in the butt!

So, I had to see if my young son would take to a "camping" lifestyle and not just complain about not having wi-fi for his games, I took him to an club sponsored MD Treasure Hunt near Tulsa in a rented Class C Motor Home.  It was pretty beat up, but everything sort of worked, so we'll see.

He absolutely ate it up!  Loved the camping aspect and the Kids Hunt and was disappointed after two days to have to go home. (I cleaned UP on Silver halves and quarters on MY hunts!!)

So after getting back to Tinker AFB, I had a long talk with my wife, and we made a decision. We need better family vacations and getaways whenever she can get away on leave from her Command position in the Air Force... along with prospecting and metal detecting, so we made a decision and started a different kind of hunt.  We were successful!

Our new transport for all things fun is an absolutely MINT condition 2013 Forest River Sunseeker 3010DS Class C Motor Home with an auto tow dolly. The wife is already in the books and on Google deciding where and when we start having trips!  This beauty only has 23,000 miles and the previous owner was a retired Master Sergeant from the Air Force who was a vehicle and aircraft mechanic. Those skills showed in how well this rig was kept up! It looks literally showroom new inside and out.  

I'll be doing videos and updates on our adventures, and will post the MD related jaunts here as well.  Woohoo!  Lovin this rig and the adventures to come!

I feel your pain. Circumstances here at Tinker have kept me away from my MD for months. Only out once local in since October, and just for a few modern coins.
They have control burned a lot of areas on base this last couple of weeks, so the tall 3ft grass is down to nubs which is great because a lot of the areas burned were the old housing areas that we have discussed hunting previously. 
Sometime in the next few weeks, I'm going to start hitting those areas and I'll give you a buzz and try to get you up here with me for a day or two.
I know you are entering your 'peak' season for work, so you'll have to let me know when you are available. 
Going back through the Nox manual trying to remember what I previously knew, but the brain has flushed!

(12"x15" coming in this week! 6" on order but my dealer is waiting on shipments).

Check in with you soon... In the meantime, I have cleaned and stocked our under-garage tornado shelter and made sure that the most important item was properly hidden...a fifth of Irish Whiskey! ??

Thank you guys for GREAT advice on the seeded hunts!  Super info!

I'll go with the 11" and use the suggested sensitivity and recovery settings in Park 1. I'll also consider the 10khz single freq option if EMI gets bad.

I think they are using painted Wheaties for the Gold Hunt. and Silver coins for the Silver quarter and Half Dollar hunts, so I'll open the range for those and close everything else.  My son will be swinging an Ace 300 for the kids hunt, so discrim will just be set to block the crap.

Morels are actually quite easy to identify. The only shroom that some people mistake for morel is one that looks like brains. Other than that one, it's pretty easy to ID the morels...and BOY are they tasty!  They are also grossly expensive if you buy them. They can cost as much as $50/lb fresh.
Here is a picture of a morel and the other one that some mistake it for. Easy to tell too because the stem of the morel is hollow. False morel stems are solid through.  Go hunt! 

I've been out of the picture for the last 4-5 months due to winter conditions here in the OKC area and duties as the Senior Spouse for my wife's Military Command on the Base here. Weather is finally moderating and time to start hunting again.

I have two questions for you full-timers.

1. I have never been interested in seeded group hunts/tournaments, but my son who is 11 is now going out with me regularly to TH with his Garrett Ace 300, and there is a big annual seeded hunt coming up about a hundred miles from us in April run by the Three Forks Treasure Hunters Club. This would be a fun trip for my son, and they have a kid's hunt on each day as well as regular adult hunts. 
I have NEVER done one of these before as it isn't my thing, but for my son, we're going and wondering what you all would suggest for setting my 800 for seeded conditions. (The 300 is easy for him) The hunt will be in the Creek County Fairgrounds. We'll rent an RV for the weekend and give my son Kai an adventure...but I'd like to win some stuff too!  

2. I have my new 6" and 15" coils inbound and wondering if I should use the 15, or the stock 11 for this kind of competition hunting?

Your assistance is appreciated!  Next two weeks will be in the woods Morel Mushroom hunting, but back to the detectors in force following that.

Haven't been around for awhile. Busy being a trophy "wife" for my senior commander spouse! That aside, and after many weeks of oppressive heat and humidity here in Oklahoma, the weather has FINALLY moderated, and we don't have to worry about heat exhaustion and melting while outside! So it's getting right on time to attack the ground for her hidden treasures!

Have a pretty good plan for initial areas I will be attacking, and more as high grass dies down after the summer. Gotta get ahold of Steve G soon to joint hunt some areas we have previously discussed on Tinker AFB. Loving my 800, and decided to put my 600 up for sale after making a decision NOT to keep both. (It's listed in the For SALE forum here).  Also extremely pleased that Minelab is being so proactive about updating a virtually new detector. WOW!  Great company!!

Would love for someone with the expertise to post a tutorial on using the data with Google Earth!  Lots of potential for this tech in Oklahoma, where the land rush happened in the 1800’s.  Probably many homesites that disappeared, and only known ghost towns have been explored. Much more as yet not found!

I suspect you would also complain about different models of the same automobile because you wanted the Bose speakers that were available on the XL edition, but not on the cheaper base model. 

These two detectors are already worth MUCH more than their selling price. The 600 DOES have wireless APTX LL capability but doesn’t include the WM-08 external wi-fi unit. Works perfectly with APTX LL wireless. So what are you after? You think they should include the $278 WM-08 for the extremely reasonable $649 price of the 600???

if so you don’t understand marketing. 

Oh, and the 600 DOES have the “gold” modes...just like the 800, just not individually.

600 and 800 in the house! Now back to the manual to learn the differences and additions with the 800!

Seems like a no-brainer for some enterprising entrepreneur to work with a Chinese factory to produce third party skid plates. Thousands of potential customers amongst the Equinox crowd...all with 11" coils.

I use both the Garrett Carrot and the Minelab Pro-Find 35.  No issues at all, and both are waterproof to 10ft.

I have not heard of anyone with an Equinox having issues with ANY modern pinpointers, and why would they?  The pinpointers are not radiating unless you turn them on while using in a hole. You turn them off before putting back in their sheath or pocket.

I would suggest that you research the different pinpointers, and just choose the one that has the features you want. You don't have to be concerned about "matching" the Equinox, or causing issues. It's not a consideration.

The shovel has to dig, AND make a nice replaceable plug. That Aldi shovel is NOT going to do that job well.
Remember, we have to be conscious of leaving no trace of our digging!

Bought two of the cheapos for my wife and son. Problem is that they need to be sharpened to be effective. Very, VERY dull on arrival. Once sharpened, they work OK, but not what I would call superb by any means.

My number has finally come up!  My 800 being shipped today!

Should be pretty easy to learn the additional features over the 600 that I've been using for the last two months.
