To use the aptX Low Latency Bluetooth capability you will need headphones, earbuds or speaker with aptX Low Latency also.

When the Equinox came out there wasn't a great deal of choice but now there are more companies adding it to their products including high end manufacturers like Pioneer, Seinnheiser, BO, Beyerdynamic etc.

Bit of tongue in cheek mate. Always gets me on a new release we nearly set the price by speculation & saying what we'd pay. Sometimes I wonder if the majority said bugger that & speculated on a lower price point whether they might hit the shops a bit cheaper. I like keeping the moths in my wallet but will let them loose if it's a goer! 👍

p.s. also don't mind paying $6 for a schooner of good, cold beer either 😋

The prices being thrown around here seem a bit over the top IMO 😉. Looks like it's going to be a nice machine but maybe we should be insistent that we won't buy it for any more than $6000AUD (~$4500USD). Maybe Minelab will listen?

Might have to let some moths out of the wallet 🤣

By posting that you've not only open yourself up to all sorts of persecution (if not prosecution) but you've also placed your 2 x "mates" under the pressure of possibly being disciplined or even fired from their job.

I don't think any greenies reading that on a public forum would just turn a blind eye to 2 x NP Rangers not performing their duty? They don't make the laws but are paid to enforce them.

It still doesn't allow the holder to prospect/fossick in Qld National Parks which are generally mostly off limits in all Australian states i.e. Victoria has about 12 allowable NP areas & NSW has just 2. Don't know of any other states that have NP areas at all?

Maybe contact your closest Minelab dealer & see if they can source one? Funny that they have kits advertised for the CTX/GPZ but nothing for the SDC.

Given ~70% of Magnetic Island is National Park you'd have to be careful about where you were prospecting or partner in crime could become very literal.

I'd still give it a week or so yet before declaring nobody wants them but I'd be surprised if one or both don't sell soon?

🤔 Sounds about right JP. I don't change too much here locally in my standard surroundings.

I'm no expert on the GPX settings, & wouldn't say I've part mastered them let alone fully mastered them, but in saying that I'm confident enough in my use of them to be able to adjust things for any changes.

My only concern with automation is if this occurs well enough but as more info is coming to light the 6000 is looking better all the time. Can't wait to see a full rundown on it all & demos of it in action.

Yeah no qualms there at all with the PI format/similarities. Was more thinking format by way of the new look, user interface etc. - & thinking out aloud. Was just a thought.

You had posted that 3 ounce photo from using the other coil/s well before Z Search coils were released so how is it relevant? Do you believe the Z Search would have missed all of those bits? I'd also expect that the 10" might sniff out more fly specs than a 12" so it's not really comparing apples with apples.

Your opinion is relevant though (without the tit for tat) as you have used both types of coil & an opinion that others can weigh up with their own decision if choosing between manufacturers. It still probably won't change anyone's mind that is deadset against doing any modifications. That's just the way it is.

I'd say you'd just tell them what's wrong & if they thinks it's coil related they'll ask the question i.e. what coil, was it an aftermarket coil etc. If you BS they'll probably know or work it out anyway?

If it's not a coil related issue than no information on whatever coil would be required.

I've seen examples of similar leaf or ribbon gold from North Queensland but nothing that size.

There are also smaller bits found around Central NSW. One piece I seen found looked like jewellery with natural chevrons on it. At the time it was found I'd never seen anything like it before.

The areas where these have been found in NSW seem to be leads that have been subject to movement, i.e. uplift, that presses the gold out under pressure. I've found a couple of specimens in one particular area where the gold was wrapped around quartz rather than in quartz also I believe formed by pressure from the elements?

Below you can see the gold "wrapped" around smooth quartz. Another piece I found is a better example but I've now sold it so probably shouldn't post photo's of it now.

There's also an example of a partially pressed out piece found within inches of the specimen. We've also found pressed flat & folded bits around the same area but I don't have any photo's on my phone.

No doubt they've had a GPX update in the works for some time but during product development things do change i.e.

- lots of people wanting an SDC with interchangeable coils (larger) & more depth 

- modernised GPX along the lines of the GPZ especially the user interface rather than knobs + toggle switches

They've come up with a pretty good compromise really. IMO they could have given it a new prefix e.g. GSX (Geo-Sense extra) to separate it from what looks to be now a completely different way forward from the SD/GP/GPX format.

In some ways I don't think it will replace my GPX just yet but in saying that I still do like the simplicity of the SDC & user interface of the GPZ. 

It remains to be seen whether the Geo-Sense function can automatically maintain the optimum levels of sensitivity &/or depth depending on ground? Hopefully once Minelab give the green light people like JP & Nenad can tell us more. No doubt they will know 😊

I'm expecting it to sit between the GPX5000 & GPZ7000 also Rick but hopefully not to much above a 5000! It looks to have lost a lot of functionality (to much automation) to me to be priced much over a 5000? But it's early days yet & I'll be watching intently as more info comes to light.

I know the GPX4500/5000 are old school in design but I hope they keep the GPX5000 in the line up for a while yet. If the current DD, Mono & Concentric coils can't be used on the GPX6000 then I can see a fair few not wanting to upgrade unless it was something very special performance wise. The modernisation is nice but not essential IMO. I'll be keeping the 4500 for now at least. Might change as more info is released?

I think Minelab have shown us their future direction in PI/ZVT detectors with a clear break up of their "modernised", but in a lot of areas still could be better, machines:

- Basic/entry level SDC2300> future models could be improved on.

- Mid-range GPX6000> ??????

- Advanced GPZ7000> future models could be improved on.

Solid is my preference in the Australian bush as the spoked coils seem to get snagged on sticks, rocks etc. whereas the solid glide better over & around that type of ground as JP said.

Not sure if it works with the Evo skid plates but with large NF Advantage coils many would use a spoked coil with a skid plate off a solid coil to still save some weight but have the flat bottom. I have a spoked 20" NF Advantage that I purchased used that has the 20" solid skid plate attached. It's ok to use like that but then you get the issue of debris collecting in the open top of the coil. IMO if I was buying new I'd go solid & put up with a bit of extra weight (when I'm getting up around 14" or bigger I always use a bungy anyway so it's negligible really).

It's a countermine detector so won't be available through Minelab retailers.
They won't sell you any without Government military approval.

It runs on Simultaneous Multi-Frequency (4 frequencies in the range 5 kHz to 75 kHz) so to me looks like an Equinox with a higher 75kHz frequency in a SDC housing. You'd be better off with the EQ800 IMO.

I think some people are getting thrown by the above statement believing that it actually combines Pulse Induction & Continuous Wave but all they are saying is that Simultaneous Multi-frequency combines the advantages of them.

Edit: The "prospecting store" that the info came from is an Aussie prospector who sells maps & occasionally used gear. He's not a Minelab dealer or anything like that. The info on his website is basically his own blog/opinion not gospel news.

Aah yes I wondered whether it was latency they were talking about with 5.0 as being twice as fast. Audio sites still rated standard Bluetooth at ~100-300ms whereas aptx LL is ~32ms. 

Latency is unavoidable unfortunately - even wired headphones can have up to ~15ms.

Also a clever company would have a screen setting (similar to nox) that has bars /numbers to show signal strength/depth/broadness.. for all the hearing impaired detectorists. Should be a simple for minelab to engineer this.

Just feel Minelab could spend more time workshopping/R & D time with some of the best long term gold detectorists

 

It would be great if the GPX6000 spoiled us for choice like the Equinox!

A WM12 (probably new WM14 or something not compatible with their other proprietary systems 🙄) for speaker, choice of wired headphones/earphones etc.

Bluetooth 5.0 & Bluetooth aptx low latency options. Bluetooth 5.0 is twice as fast as 4.2 apparently but still not aptx low latency fast.

It is unfortunate that more companies aren't willing to incorporate aptx LL into their Bluetooth products for better performance.

The Equinox is built with the Bluetooth 4.2 standard & aptx LL I believe so for optimal connection to Bluetooth headphones/earphones you would need to have minimum of 4.0 standard (4.2 is backwards compatible with 4.0 & 4.1) or 5.0 standard that are backwards compatible with 4.X standard gear. Low latency aptx is obviously going to be better lag wise but available options are the problem.

I've been using Reolink Argus wireless cameras with solar for around the house for a few years now without any issues with battery etc. Good set up with alerts straight to my phone wherever I am with both cloud & onboard storage. 

Had wondered how the Reolink GO would perform as an option in remote areas with no wifi so thanks for the write up.
