    Hi Mike

I have heard many great things about the Panning Championships and I would like to go so maybe next year :-) Detecting here is really unclear as it seems everyone does it, they do it without permission from anyone and they just avoid protected sites. As I understand it you are allowed to use a metal detector but anything you find belongs to the state and you could be rewarded 10% of the value. I have been on a few hunts with archeologists and everything was handed in. The Slovak Republic has recently changed the laws and it is now forbidden to use a metal detector there. Regarding the Tele-Knox stem please have a look on the detecting-innobvations.co.uk site.

Let me know when you come to CZ and I can give you some advice.

    Regards,

    Scott

Thanks for the information and I will be looking at those videos as I learn what I am doing. I have already watched over 30 different videos and these should be just as interesting.

    Thanks

Cheers. These tutorials are very informative and easy to follow. Are you interested to try a program we use over here in Europe? I use a program called 4x4 and I only change the iron bias and recovery speed for the ground conditions.

    Scott and Steve H.

Thanks for the link and additional info you both provided.  The Detecting-Innovations website did not pop up on the results when I searched on TELE-NOX or TELE-NOX shaft, just the dealers, so I could not find any direct contact information before you dropped the link on me.  Hence my perceived impatience/frustration.

Got the arm cup hole sizing issue sorted on my own with a little self-surgery, though I do not like to do that to high value, new product right out of the box, as I said previously.  Reamed it out myself, not pretty but it now accommodates the arm cups .  Anyone who has any tips on how to smooth and seal up the rough CF edges on the enlarged holes I am all ears.  CF is not fun to cut and drill., I like to leave that to the pros as I am no craftsman.

Main concern, Scott, was when you referred to the "earlier" units with small holes in a previous post was that perhaps I also had some of the older unrefined hardware pieces and that DOES appear to be the case.  Though the kit was purchased within the past few weeks, I do appear to have the older, less robust control head attachment piece and also do not appear to have the self-locking nuts on the cam lock lever attachments you mentioned above.

Will contact  D-I via the website contact info to try to get it sorted.  Anything I should know regarding key words and tricky phrases to help Tony understand my situation, especially since I am located across the pond?  Thanks again.

    .

Thanks for doing the repair to the hole. I understand any frustration with regards to that and trust me it was tough even evaluating the correct size as if we got it too big then they would have been 100% useless, too small was the better bet until enough feedback was available because as I mentioned mine was not OK and my mates was OK even with the exact same shaft. Just let Tony know you need the lock nuts and the black part for the handle and he will know what to send. If you don't want to wait for the nuts they are an M3. Thanks for your feedback and I am sorry that you have had these issues. I hope you will be satisfied in the field. :-)

    Steve,

Agree, I don't want to break anything, but I can't even crank down on the screw if I wanted to.  The problem is each of the arm cup pieces have little raised nibs that contain either screw through hole or the threaded portion to receive the screw.  These allow the arm cup pieces to settle into the holes on either side of the rod and fit snugly around the rod and also captures them in place to keep them from sliding axially or radially.  Since they do not insert into the holes at all, the screw cannot reach far enough through the rod to engage the threads on the other arm cup piece.  Not really interested in retapping the holes on a carbon fiber rod and frankly shouldn't have to at this price.  I can see a few escaping to individual buyers,  but it is disappointing these were distributed to overseas vendors when it is something that takes a second to verify before you put it in the package.

Can somebody provide me with the manufacturer's contact info.  Am I supposed to contact Tony Hunt? And if so, how? Google is not helping me in this regard.

Not all of the sets from the batch were too small and not all who bought them had problems. We are not sure as to why but we made the standard size of the hole bigger. The one that I use the hole was too small for my arm cup but fit my mates arm cup well, but his arm cup was used on the original shaft for a long time and mine was brand new so it maybe related to wear on the arm cup.

Wow, an honor to have you here Scott. I’m quite impressed with my brief introduction to your rod design so far. Once I get some hours on it I’ll know more but I can see it being my standard dry land rod. I’m not sure I’d use it for saltwater use but that’s not a critique of the rod per see. That kind of use tends to eat any rod up and I’d rather ruin one of of the stock rods!

Anyway, thank you because having aftermarket items goes a long way to helping make a machine great. I never really had an issue with the stock Equinox rod while in use, but there is no doubt that a good telescoping rod suits a lot of my uses better. Specifically for prospecting in mountainous terrain. The detector needs to go in and out of a rucksack a lot, and constantly breaking down and reassembling is a real pain. And in constantly varying terrain being able to constantly adjust for long on the flat to very short on a 50 degree slope is required and the quick cams help a lot with that. All probably stuff a bit foreign to why many of your purchasers buy the rod so thought I’d toss that in.

As always, I am in awe of the finds made in Europe! Those coins are stunning quality. I’m headed back to the U.K. in September for another go myself.

Hello Steve and thank you for the kind words. Will you be at Detectival? I will be there all weekend.

I have tinkered with every machine I have had and I always wanted to design something for the masses. The Tele-Knox shaft was/is a bit challenging as there are many aspects to consider and yet get it small, compact and light. I am currently working on an S-Shaft that will be made from Carbon Fibre and it will use the middle and lower rods from the Tele-Knox. It will have a unique storage/travel feature that will keep it nearly as compact as the the Tele-Knox. Hoping to have samples in September.

I apparently have the issue where the holes for the arm cup pieces were drilled too small.  I purchased my kit from a US vendor.   What is the best course of action for getting this issue resolved, dealing with the manufacturer or the vendor?  I have no contact information for the supplier as it was not included in the package.

Anyone that I know that had the problem were able to solve it with a pointed knife or drill in a few minutes and I have not heard anything about this issue for a long time.

I have bought 2 of the Tele Nox stems , a Long mans and a short stem . The middle and top stems are the same in both . Only the Lower stem is longer at 29 inches . In the picture you will see an 18 inch ruler for scale . The Long mans stem is the one I am using . I think I should have bought both as long mans . The shorter lower stem is 21 inches .

Anyway I haven't had much issue with mine. Only on one of the top camlocks when tightened the middle stem kept coming loose. I now tighten till the lugs touch and that seems to hold. Though you are supposed to only tighten the nut up when the camlock is fully open , tighten up the nut then close the camlock lever .

When you are out in the field or beach just take the 2 Allen keys with you . Under the position just under the top camlock I wrap a small amount of insulation tape around the stem just to show it has or hasn't moved . If it does I just adjust . I seems to last a very long time before it needs it if at all  .

Other than that I have had no trouble and I have used mine in rough seas , it takes the stress .

As after market stems go its not a bad piece of kit . I will be visiting Oz next year , and I will be taking mine with me . That's why I bought it.

The package next to the ruler it the shorter stem complete in its sleeve.

Do you have the lock nuts on yours? If not then let Tony know and he will post them. The supplier messed up with the first batch as lock nuts were in my design and they sent with regular nuts that work loose.

I received the new redesigned lower plastic piece yesterday but I didn't have time to post. As you can see by the photos the new piece is designed a lot stiffer with thicker crossmembers and a thicker Center Post and what you can't see is that the alignment has been changed.... the new piece I received fits the shaft tightly, the old one was loose  and fit real sloppy.... I believe he fixed the problem of breaking the equinoxes control pod inserts!

Now as to the lower arm cuff not fitting properly I have a photo included with the size of the flat spot, Steve if you could measure yours I would appreciate it?

I should know better then to buy something that was just released... I worked for an OEM for 15 years and everything new that we released would take time to work the kinks out...

And I forgot to mention if you have one of the old style lower plastic pieces get a hold of Tony hunt and he'll ship you a new one!

Hi there. The only modification was to the crossmember and centre post, the alignment didn't change as it would have required a new tool. I am not sure what is going on with the arm cup as I have not heard of any issues other than early batches has the hole too small. Have you assembled the new black piece under the handle?

  9. Hello Everyone

Scott Ellis here, known as IRON MASK around other forums and detecting events.  I run the minelabowners forum and I am the designer for the "Detecting-Innovations" "Tele-Knox" telescopic shaft for the Equinox. I am Canadian however I have been in Europe for 19 years and I have been detecting since 2010, currently own and Equinox 800 and a "dusty" CTX.

I have some of my finds featured in the Equinox Handbook by Andy Sabisch.

One of my best finds is a silver Roman Seal matrix that is now in a museum in Croatia.

My oldest find is a piece of pottery from the Neolithic period and was a surface find.

The season is just getting underway for us here in Europe and I hope to have time to get out and find the goodies.

Good luck and happy hunting to all.
