  1. I would really like to hear anyone's thoughts on their favorite gold book(s). Not necessarily just metal detecting but any aspect of gold, weather it be detecting of, geology of, or historical, which I find really fascinating, but just any favorite books on the subject, from any country and any time, all input is appreciated!

    Cheers

Multitones reactivity 2.5 mostly, silencer -1, disc - minus values now, and GB manual - minus 3 to 5. And is good enough but little noisy. And sweep speed should be lower for better audio respond.

Damn! Glad I pre ordered the Gold monster! It's a 8 hour drive for me to decent gold bearing areas. My first time out there I bought a GP Extreme. I still have it but felt like there was a steep learning curve and never felt confident that I was using it properly. With limited time I want something a little more suited to the inexperienced person.

    Thanks for your help guys?

XP Deus calls this Reactivity and has 5 adjustments for it. Not realy a feature set as "older" models or more purpose orientated models have much more adjustment span.

Think of it as a set of tools going from 3 mm nuts to 40 mm nuts in 5 steps. It looks like a tooldrawer, it feels like a tooldrawer,.... but you can't do anything with it.

Thanks Scoop! Great explanation. I had a pretty decent idea of what you were speaking about but this explanation makes it much clearer. So this 2.5 reactivity that is being spoke of, I'm guessing would be the slowest SAT speed? So best bet for gold would be to use 2.5 and a slow sweep speed, does that sound right to you?

Thanks for your input, much appreciated!

It is still just a Deus,... no sat speed adjustment in the tracking ground balance

    Hi Scoop,

I have been considering buying a Deus but know very little about them and really don't have much experience detecting in general.

Would you mind explaining to me why this is a problem. Thanks in advance.

I'm a big fan of French roast!

  5. On some of the other forums, some people are saying that this will be a kids toy. I'm not seeing it that way, I think this is going to be a pretty decent machine. I usually wait a while before I buy new tech but not this one. I have 1 paid on pre order and should have it in my hands just about the time the snow has melted! I wanna be first in line for this one!

  6. Hi Dingo,

I have been lurking on this forum and many others for years, although I have a fair amount of "Book" knowledge my actual "Boots on the ground" knowledge is lacking. About 5 years ago I purchased a GP Extreme and headed the 500 kms (I'm Canadian so roughly 350 miles) to gold country from where I live, I got there and found out that some detectors have a fairly steep learning curve!

If I were to go back in time I would have started with a much simpler detector.

From what I have read the ATX is a fairly simple detector to operate. Also the SDC and the GPZ but both of those detectors are more expensive and there are others, follow Steve's links and you can't go wrong. .

Keep it simple to start would be my advise.

    Good luck!

I dont think the New Minelab Gold Monster is good enough.

What we expected is more useful detector throughout the world .

Minelab should think about it to introduce detector like GPZ 7000 with iron reject discrimination because who will waste his time for digging upto 2 or 3 feet for iron. No one will

I will! Because there's a chance that it's not iron when in gold country or that there's a big nugget sitting under the iron. If iron discrimination on the 7000 was easy to accomplish, it would be done already.

I think we have what we have and have to work with that.

If magic wands that find and dig the gold for us were available we would all have one and gold would be worth 5 bucks an ounce!

So if you make the four new forums, detecting coins, jewelry, relics and minerals. Where do we post about other stuff like general prospecting other than with a metal detector?

I do like the idea of one forum as almost all the subjects have been interesting.

My two cents would be to add to the archive and open that to new post.

Maybe the question should be why are we not posting on the other subjects as much?

Now that winter is here things are slowing down for me and I plan to get some of my summer dredging stuff posted, but those post are quite an oddity here. Sometimes I hesitate to post that stuff but the likes I have received tell me you guys are ok with it.

I really can see others and potential new members not wanting to break the ice and deiced to move on.

Id be really curios what others think.

Myself I am interested in all things gold the different ways to get it. Even if it is something I may never use I still find it very interesting.

And just because it is something I don't do today doesn't mean that tomorrow I won't try it!

I think being out in the bush or desert or whatever terrain you may detect that you should keep your mind open to all the possibilities.

You could go out looking for a gold nugget and end up finding a civil war belt buckle or a meteorite or an old camp spot that contains 150 year old bottles in a garbage pit etc etc etc. Detecting is like a box of chocolates!

I think you know the rest!!!!!

I look forward to all the new forums especially the gem and geology.

This has become the only forum that I check on a daily basis and the only one I post on. Adding more forums will only make it more interesting!

I particularly like how when things are a little slow that Steve digs up some fresh info and posts it and I like how most everyone gets along and respects other opinions.

    2017 is already shaping up!
