the gold screamer uses a sony style camcorder battery , NP-F950 or 970 . these batteries are a  replacement that are working great for me. they slide into the same receptacle as the original batteries that come with the gold screamer

Cool thanks for the info! Will be looking at the same set up come spring.

Ive been using mine for 5 years  and logged about 4000 hours of use . it has worked flawlessly for me .i never disconnect it and keep all wires in the same location. some friends of mine have had a few broken wire issues but they were always disconnecting the cable from the control box . the newer screamer cover keeps the power cable in a better spot than the older one. on the side verses the bottom.

also i switched to Wasabi batteries from Amazon and have been very satisfied with their performance. 2 batteries and a charger for $59 . that my two bits good luck!

Could you give us a little more info on the Wasabi batteries you're using.

How do you hook them up? Did you solder in your own wires and pin adapter.

I looked them up and don't see anything Minelab specfic but I am in Canada and and looked at Amazon Canada site maybe different on the American site. What are the specs on the battery?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

It's entertainment.....nothing to take seriously..kind of like the MSM. Just discovered a pretty cool show called Mineral Explorers. The host travels the world and visits   the world's finest gems, crystals and minerals. He introduces the miners and their cultures to the audience and shows beautiful examples of the mineral that the miners search for .

That sounds pretty cool. What network is it on?

  4. I wonder if having the battery up the shaft like that means that you will be able to sink it in the water a foot or so without having to use the antenna set up some guys are using for water searching.

I really don't know much about the XP been watching from the sidelines. I am just assuming that the little tubular protrusion that you see on the coils is the battery and signal sending unit, so just guessing that part being moved higher into the shaft would allow for some submersion of coil without interference.

Don't let me stop you from buying the XP because everything else is number one on what I read view and over all see. I've got it already in my head a fix on that stand. Heck I didn't like the stand on the MX Sport and I made one I did like.

Oh I certainly won't let a stand stop me!

Nearly end of the season up here in Canada so going to wait for spring anyway. The new coil and update should be available by then and really who knows what other players may release in the next 6 months.

There's rumors floating around for numerous companies so could get quite interesting by early spring at least I hope so!

    Cheers

I have the XP on order and may receive it by the weekend. Looking all the video's and seeing one in person that the dealer has for himself it's a great detector. It can do so much for you in the field but the only thing I can see is the stand is worthless. The first thing I'll do when I receive it is make a better stand than it's got. I just can't see why anyone would go make maybe one of the best detectors on the market and have a stand like they do. I put it on the ground and it was sitting on the shaft that runs under your arm and not on the stand at all.

Keep us informed of your thoughts on the machine please.

If the stand is the only thing that's lacking I think I can live with that!

    Thanks Chuck

Yes if you go without visual ID you can mount the remote on your shoulder as we do with the Z. I have found a compromise and have the remote mounted on a wristband on left arm (one purpose built for IPhone). Plenty of volume and easy to keep your eye on the display on the remote, for ID or whatever.

Thanks for the reply. Are you in OZ and using the Zed? If so are you bringing the XP along as well and how is it doing with the heavy mineralization there? Do you feel that the XP is a decent partner for the Zed? I realize that these are questions you might not be able to answer but throwing it out there for anyone.

    I like your wristband idea.

    Thanks

Yes the Deus has a 1/8" audio output jack as well as full sound on the main controller but it has no volume control.

That's cool I did not know that! Thank you that allows a lot more options than I expected were available.

  9. Liking the Xp the more I hear about it. Won't get one until the new coil and update are released but meanwhile was wondering if you can get sound in any way without headphones?

Areas where I will be hunting have grizzly, cougar, wolf and the occasional sasquatch!

So needless to say it's wise to keep at least 1 ear open but would prefer to set up something like what the minelab guys are using with the external speakers.

Anyone using a set up similar to that? If so what are your thoughts on the subject.

    Thanks

  10. True, we're not that much in disagreement. It's really a lot like it was in North America when the west was wild and I guess we made it out of that ok.

I just think it's not 1849 and a government of a country like Peru should be taking better care of business, it's in their best interest to do so.

I'm 50 years old and still somewhat naïve I guess. There's the way I think the world should be and then there's the way it really is!

I have a very different take on this.  We live in cities formed by leveling forests, tearing down mountains of building stone, destroying animal habitats and draining lakes and wet lands. The poverty stricken residents of these lands want a better life for themselves and their children.  Why is it a horrible environmental tragedy that these people want to develop their natural resources and develop a better life? It is EXACTLY what we have done. Unless you are living the total technology and lifestyle of 500 BC., you are a hypocrite to deny these people the opportunity to better their lives the way our forefathers did. I can tell you as a writer and some one who has long been involved in environmental issues that articles like this are pure propaganda pieces which ignore the facts to gain converts and donations.

While a lot of what you say is true, we also have laws to keep children and indigenous peoples from being abused.

We have laws that restrict unsustainable development.

We have laws that keep cartels from stealing our resources.

In short we have laws and the firepower to back them up.

Try any of those practices in your local national monument and see what happens!

I believe that the impoverished people of those countries deserve a piece of the pie just like anyone else but with that way of doing business the pie will only be there for 1 generation to benefit from at best after that only a desolate wasteland leftover.
