  1. Sending pre-production units back and forth to the engineering group is normal activity until they get officially released to production.   Getting to see video's of pre-production testing units isn't normal so folks should consider themselves lucky that took place.

I like what they are doing with the ferrous/non-ferrous check.   And I like that they are giving a couple of more multi modes to chose from.   Be nice if you could auto discriminate with ferrous/non-ferrous check setting but this is a good start.

I think I will most likely buy and try one of these Legends, especially now with the new updates planned prior to release.

Still reading the pre-production operating manual draft a little at a time.

  2. Amazing how you pull the old posts into the new inquiries and keep everything relevant, Steve.

I still have those books and I still periodically re-read them.  Maybe the only thing that's really changed since I first posted the book list is that I also combine them with user manuals...comparing feature set attributes to loss characteristics since my jewelry detector selection is more varied now and I have a greater choice in what detector to use and where to use it.   I find it keeps the old information fresh, adds to the enjoyment and keeps me energized and positive.   Even when I can't get out very often.

  3. Nice Ring.

I'd say you are on the first step of understanding what a gold jewelry detector feature set requires.

If you can't see a difference in phase shift, then you have to rely on audio, both disc mode and all metal mode.  Does the 440 allow you to hear the audio difference between a tab and gold ring?   Does your all metal mode allow you to hear the difference between a tab and a gold ring?   Does coil height over the target matter?

If you can't see the difference then you have to rely on audio responses to give you clues.

  4. I already know the order I'm going to purchase them.

1st will be for the TEK 8500 because I'll be able to use it for my Eurotek Pro, too.  And, it may also work on the F75 and I'll want to know that before purchasing one for the F75.

2nd will be for my Etrac.

3rd is undecided.  If the DFX coil feedback shows it works ok on the V3 then the V3 is next.   If not, and the 8500 coil doesn't work well with the F75 then the F75 coil will be next.

Then just wait for the Impact to make the coil list.

Hard to believe this is actually going to happen.  I love this type of coil.

  5. I did some coil field mapping when I first got into the hobby.....actual coil fields look nothing like you think, especially close to the coil.   Dave and I had some conversations about it.   There is a reason for the air gap the mfg recommend on their coils and while minerals play into it, its also has a lot to do with the basic mechanics of the way the coil generates its magnetic fields.

  6. Sometimes there are just too many lips capable of sinking the ship to be a pirate all of the time.   Some projects are just not worth the hassle unless you can get a valid charter at the get go.   That way you can operate under contract and any legal challenges are handled by the charter member.   You still make money and get the publicity you need to continue getting additional contracts.

  7. Abenson. you are right.  The F11, F22 and F44 replaced the F2, F4 and F5.   And the F5 is still being made basically as a private label for MetalDetector.com.

The F19 LTD camo edition is being discontinued.   Fisher had already stated that once they (camo) were gone they were gone.  It is my understanding the plain rod F19 is still available.

The F70 is the Tek Patriot.

The CZ-3D ......I suppose that this is most likely the last survivor of the era of the depth demon coin machines and now its gone, too.   Well, we all knew it was going to happen someday.

  8. I know electronic pinpointers are just accessories but they really should re-introduce the TRX pin-pointer.    If they don't like the existing pressure switch and want to put the Garrett buttons on it, fine.  but the circuit / performance itself needs to be put back into our hands.   The TRX is about the only thing that really competes against 1st Texas'  pulse pin-pointers.

The Garret Carrot reminds me of the ACE-250.  Ok for the masses but not for the dedicated.

Another accessory that was a winner was the ProStar headphones.  I'd like to see those back on the market, too.  I really like those headphones.   The cord is the right length, the cups are the right size and the sound is very good.

    Anyway....my nickel.
