  1. I always use “fiber toe boots” even in warm weather. The type that goes up to the heel and helps to prevent feet twisting injuries- a must when hiking in rocky areas!-
These type of boots handle abuse better and are usually less expensive than sporting models.

Every brand of work boots has the models for “electrician's”. These have fiber or hard plastic instead of steel toe. I find that the air chamber provided by the rigid support improves the general ventilation of the feet.

Of course you need to look if there is any metal in the lace holes….

Always prefer models entirely made of leather because they don’t heat up like synthetic materials. Just experiment having your hand in a nitrile glove and a leather glove in full sun and you will immediately see the different…

Top tip: feet swollen has you walk, so to have the best fit, required in our “extreme sport”, it’s better to buy shoes in the end of  a busy walking day 🙂

  2. There as a topic very similar to this one a few weeks ago… did you checked the cable connection? Make sure it’s properly attached with the screw connector tightened.
Often my atx goes crazy because of changes in soil mineralization or emi but never to the point of having to bring sensitivity to zero.

  3. I had the same issue (rod not fully retracting) since I started to interchange the stock coil  with the 20” deepseeker.
I agree that twisting a bit more the cable will help to better close the shaft.
You say the black shim is broken? Because it’s supposed to be loose from the rod… About the rod coming out, it only happened to me one time (before I started interchanging coils). If I remember correctly it happened because the rod was not unfolding and I twisted it and pulled it very strongly. Not a smart move when dealing with plastic … Then I did the cleaning with lots of running water and it never happened again  ?

Anyway if you get in direct contact with Garrett with your questions for sure they will help with suggestions.
    Happy Huntings!

  4.

    I hope it´s a gigantic nugget!!

Sorry to say it sounds ferrous…  It also seems the target is halfway down the hole on the side wall.

I always widen the hole so it´s easier to pinpoint the target ( in motion mode).

With such loud targets, often I bring sensitivity down, so I hear the changing tones and try to determine the position and depth.

Using a pinpointer will help you save a lot of time per target!!

    Happy hunting!

I use a 530gr (18,7 ounces), double use hoe from Bellota. Pretty much indestructible because it’s forged in one piece. They are made with the best steel (this company manufactures agriculture tools for 120 years). I use this brand for farming activities for at least 40 years. The pointy edge will not erode and the flat side is always sharp. Even if you are hammering on mix soil/stones.  It’s lightweight and inexpensive. I purchase the tool without the cable but they also sell with a cable, just cut them to your desire length. They sell worldwide.                                     https://www.bellota.com/en-us/for-agriculture/soil-preparation/hoes/hoes/forged-double-use-hoe-hoe-and-launcher-with-antigiro-system-hoe230/hoe230bp   image.thumb.png.f3b11069655f2ddf13cd374f44f2c7a5.png

This is how mine looks like assembled. I added a magnet on top. The cable is about 60cm/ 25 inches. One piece no welds. Still holding shape after at least 2000 digs!

  7. Thank you all for the inputs!! I learned more in a couple of months with this forum than the last 3 years of internet lurking.

After your feedback I consulted with my MD shop and they also advised the ATX.

So I ordered the ATX. It should arrive in two weeks !!!

In a way, I was keen on trying a new brand. Anyway, I already informed OKM of my decision and explained them my reasons. I told them that my decisions comes mainly because there are no independent test videos for the machine, only promotional videos.  Told them about Nokta doing pre-tests with independent testers with he Legend, and also about the Impulse backfired beta test flop. They were okay with it and replied they may review their marketing strategy. Let´s see if something happens... ?

Now I am concerned with a strategies to deal with the machine weight and battery life.

For the weight I plan to get a DOC´s harness and a Saga swing arm.

Sergio, be careful, what you want !!! ...
Read the manufacturer's description very carefully ... and maybe your ideas about the possibilities of this detector will really fade ...

    Targeted Search with Pulse Nova

Thanks to the way it works and the different coils, treasure hunters can focus well on their target objects: With the large search coil as well as the Frame Coil Xi104, small objects such as bottle caps, pull tabs and small pieces of aluminum foil can be ignored. But beware: Even single coins cannot be displayed when using the large search coils! Depending on the application and target object, make sure to select the appropriate coil:

    • Large search coil, large magnetic field: mainly larger metal objects can be found.
    • Small search coil, small magnetic field: Smaller objects can also be detected.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

......I think that for the price of 2000 euros you can already buy really tried and tested models of PI detectors .. known manufacturers ..?

I did so myself and bought a PI  ..Garrett ATX  metal detector - second hand ../ 1300 euros /....

Sometimes you just have to try something new. I hope it works out for you and wasn't too expensive. Chapter 6 (Troubleshooting) in the manual, may tell you all of the problems you may have. Those would probably be the best things to try and get better at doing. I'm thinking EMI may be an issue as well as small targets, but you never know. It will be interesting to hear how you like it.

It looks to me like they've virtually hit the holy grail.  If it can ignore aluminum foil yet hit tiny gold nuggets its a miracle.  I hope you've not wasted your money.  Please post how you go with it once it arrives.

    From their marketing.

    • Detectable objects: Natural gold and metal objects of any size, developed to ignore unwanted trash such as scrap bottle caps or aluminum foil
    • Easy to use for inexperienced users and those familiar with PI detectors: only 2 preset controls for volume and sensitivity

Yup! I had the feeling that you would be supportive... It´s seems something similar to the QED. I will post info when I have it.

    Cheerio

  10. Because I found some good targets with the GM 1000, I believe I really need a PI for large nuggets. Because I can´t afford a GPX or a GPZ , I decided taking a leap of faith on the "NEW 2022" German made OKM Delta Pulse -omega version-.

    https://www.okmdetectors.com/products/pulse-nova?variant=37643600658600

I am a bit scared with my decision because OKM is a freaky company! Their headquarters is a glass pyramid... ? Their main focus are several radar and image machines for archaeology. They also have a "long range" detector and as I learned from Steve that is a major no no... Their videos suck and are directed to the middle east.

Anyway, I tried to get informed about OKM and they seem legit. The headquarters exists, they appeared on national German TV, they are certified by the German chamber of commerce and the financial information offered by survey companies state that they sell about 2,5 million€ per year.  They have a fairly extensive user manual for the machine.

    https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0274/1154/6156/files/Manual_Pulse-Nova_EN.pdf?v=18306139255944048693

I believe this is their second PI model (the first seems to have been some years ago). This Pulse nova model has been released in 2021 and apparently was sold out. They informed me they have a new batch expected for early march.

It´s a PI unit but they don´t explain in detail the technical features. It has two monocoils 18cm (7") and 38 cm (15") . Bluetooth technology for headphones and control unit. Just two knobs (sensitivity and sound) and one of the knobs has a press button for ground balance. Weight of the machine is about 2 to 2,5 kg (4 to 5 lb).

It appears that the control box is detachable because of the option of using a large "square meter coil" that is included in the "+" version . My expectation is that I can detach it when using the coils to reduce the weight.

Well this is my plan. Any thoughts?

  11. Hey Badger!

This video is about target acquisition. He is using two iron nails and a small gold nugget for demonstration.

First, he is showing how fast the detector reacts to a target. Secondly he activates "Iron Bias - iron signal filtering-" and the machine only reacts to the gold nugget.

It looks promising!! Apparently Alexandre Tartar has not drop the ball yet ? .

Anyway, I only found out about AQUA about 4 months ago so don´t feel (has much) the frustration of our fellow aficionados.

My expectation is for the gold prospecting model !!

  12. Hey ks!
My experience is with the monster. It’s the only machine I have detect with. My hunting ground is schist rocks and the machine It is very stable and I can use it between the 7 and 8 “gain”. When the ground changes you need to adjust the gain or “pump” say about ten times and just keep going. I also use the “auto plus” combined with the manual for target verification.
It’s fairly light weighted and after a couple of ours I need 10 minutes to recover my arm stamina. Very good battery life, at least 12 hours!? Pretty awesome machine!! It will detect crazy small bits. It has two coils and I prefer the larger coil because for scouting because it’s not as sensible and will skip bird shotgun pellets.
What I miss is target ID ( which I believe the NOX has).

I hunt for gold nuggets and often I will dig nails from old cow shoes ? - something I discover from detecting is that in the old days they would do it!-  and these are made of a metal that often is mixed and gives strong non ferrous signals. If I had target ID I would skip those. The monster does give sound variations easy to identify in swallow targets but for deeper targets the variation is not as noticeable.
The monster works for my current gold, which is gold ? but because I need depth my future detector will be a PI.
Anyway, if I was to decide for another VLF I will go for something with good target ID. Say a NOX or a Legend?

    Hope this info helped.

Here is a photo of a “Cowshoe”  for future memory… Cheerio!

  13. Today Chris Ralph "the professional prospector" ? posted a video in youtube that features someone from Fisher and this person teases about the new detector(s).

Apparently there are two videos. The first is a sit down about detecting. In the second (not yet posted) they will they detecting in the field.

Maybe the guy from Fisher will use a prototype!! Anyway it seems there may be something coming soon!
