I have a Deus II with the 9" coil. Love it. I have owned light machines (Troy X2 and X5 for example), but this one is the king of all day swinging. And what power they pack into that tiny package! Anyway, I want to add a larger coil? Do I get the 11 or the 11x13? I am leaning toward the latter as it doesn't weight that much more than the 11 and provides 2" more coverage. Am I right?

I bought the 11" originally, and just purchased the 11 x 13".  If I had it to do over, I would have bought the 9" and then the 11 x13". A little weight difference between the 11" and the 11 x 13", but not enough to matter to me. I'm usually hunting the beach, and like the extra coverage. I think you're leaning th right way.

    Gigmaster reviews the Deus 2.

Unlike most YouTubers, Gigmaster waited until he had almost one year of near daily use at saltwater beaches and on land based relic hunts before he recorded a review of his Deus 2s.

Unvarnished, no nonsense, straight forward review.

Spot on review. Steve is a straight up guy!

Thanks, it's a little weird stuffing half the waveguide into the upper shaft, and the other half into the lower 😀 Carolina has a much better solution but I didn't have the time or resources. It is what it is... 🤷‍♂️

I made up a full length waveguide out of the RG179 I had left over for deeper wading. Made it just the length I needed and it fits under my cover. Also used the original waveguide control clip. Only took about 15 minutes. I figure I can make a few more out of my original waveguide cable after I cut out the discolored ends. That would keep you from having to stuff the extra cable in the shaft.

    Thanks! 🙂

I have only SteveG to thank otherwise. 🏆 He makes a heckuva shaft for detectors.

Using zip ties is a double edge sword, they hold stuff nicely and in my experience don't wear out too fast, so that's great. Notice the tie on the control unit as well. Just made it.

The bad part is that going water hunting introduces fine silt into everything, so cleaning it all afterward is a nightmare.

That is why I go to my local Ace and get a bag of 100 zip ties. 🤣 8" light duty black. Here a bag is $3.89.

    That's a great looking rig!

Here are some others, specifically sized for detectors:

That will work as well. I liked the split tubing, because it is split on the entire length and made it much easier to put on and remove without removing the lower shaft and to get the wire under it. Seems to stay on very well. Has very good memory.  I may make a longer antenna as well and I can then use two pieces, one on the upper and one on the lower.

They are. Thought that was one of those "Snake Skins".

It is split loom tubing that I used to protect some fiber audio cables behind an audio console. Here is the link of the product that I used. Thanks for the reply: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FW672R7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

Now I see that that they have colors to match the Deus! 😂

Just cut to length and melt edge with a torch or lighter.

  7. Got to my Deus II this morning. Here is the one I made with paracord. Gotta love paracord! I've got the Doodads clip, but use a lanyard as well.

    1. Made a loop that included the d-ring portion of the USB lanyard and a piece of heat shrink, stiched on the wife's sewing machine without her knowing it!
    2. Sealed heat shrink.
    3. Added a push button  that I saved off of an old jacket.
    4. Looped over controller and around stem.
    5. Tightened up loop with push button.

  8. Going to give parkgt's idea a shot on my new 11" x 13" coil. I bought some RG179 removed the shield and double covered with marine heat shrink. Attached to the coil with velcro wire ties so I can easily remove the coil cover. Can still attach the charging clip without removing the antenna. Ran up the outside of a Nokta Legend carbon fiber shaft and hold the cable in place with a section of nylon split braided sleeving that I had left over from an audio job. Thanks again to parkgt for this great idea! Have not tested it yet, but hope to in the next few days.

  9. I broke the lanyard that came with my Deus II originally, and made one from a USB stick lanyard ( picked up on ebay ) and some paracord attached to the shaft. Don't have my Deus handy to take a picture.

Sent the coil to DETECTOR ELECTRONICS CORP. They received it on Monday 10/17, as I was told it may take a week for them to get to it. No update at this point. The coil finally got to where it would not charge at all before I sent it in. Thus far, the return process has gone pretty smoothly, and I have full confidence that they will resolve it. Will update this post when they get it resolved. I'm hunting primarily in salt water, but have been meticulous about cleaning the machine after each use. I did notice a small area that looked pitted on one of the charging contacts before I sent it in. I'm using my Nox 600 right now, but do miss the Deus II.

Got a shipping confirmation yesterday that a new 11" coil was shipped and replaced under warranty. That's one week turnaround. I am more than happy with that!

Thanks for sharing this.  So far, no issues on this end with the 11" coil - I can detect for 3-4 hours and the battery still shows full.  Please let us know about the repair experience if you send it in for repairs.

  12. I'm running my Deus 2 w/11" coil using a program built off of the Beach Sensitive base program. I am also running the antenna, and Grey Ghost wired headphones. I ran this morning for about 4 1/2 to 5 hours. Wanted to go for a quick spin this afternoon, and the coil is dead. I feel like the coil battery life is not as good as when I first got the machine. Does this sound normal, or am I expecting too much out of the coil? Thanks for the input.

Those headphones seem to be getting good reviews here. The price almost makes them disposable !

Heya Jed , welcome to the forums.

I grew up with music ,,tron school in my teens ,and got my dream job out on the road touring since mid 70s  , been semi retired for ~20 years. Semi meant If I get an offer I can't refuse LOL  A couple of years since that last happened....

I've found a large amount of this detector stuff has parallels in our world.....pesky physics.

I think untrained ears can hear comb filtering , doubling and short slapback below 100ms.

Most don't know the what or why though !  😉

These folks on the forum have been training their ears (critical listening) since  detecting began...

    🖖

Detecting targets don't like delay like some singers , but some of those singers sure do need it ! LOL.

Thanks RV, Your statement was a little better put than mine. I think you are spot on that they can hear the latency but don't realize what they are hearing. I think that latency drops to about 40ms when AptX-LL is applied. The "Critical Listening" topic would be a good thread to start. Don't wont to hijack F350's thread. I understand it well from a musical point of view, but am still learning how to apply it to detecting. Like how you hear the latency on a single tone. Makes sense on multiple tones in the same swing, but not as much so on a single tone. Nothing to compare it to, like a bass guitar and snare drum hitting in reference to each other. Choosing the right tone frequencies ( if the detector permits it ) would be super critical, based on each individuals hearing.
