I don’t think I can stomach $500 for an 8” coil, or for any coil for that matter. How much are we really gaining over the capabilities of an Equinox 900? The after-market makers would ask nearly as much for the 8” coil I’m sure. I really feel like we’re being price gouged along with the hype. I may dump the Manticore back onto the market and go with the 900 when my military discount comes back around, (one per year).

$500 for a coil would be ridiculous, I like the detector but I'd seriously consider selling mine and getting a deus ii if the small coil is that expensive.

I recently went hunting with a Manitcore hunter, new to it, he used the 800 before for several years, and before that he hunted with a Explorer ll which was waterproofed. I had no problem going behind him and digging good targets but I hunt in AM with a non-stock excalibur and this is "in" brackish waters. I've done the same with Nox hunters with the same results. Our next trip out won't be till later (Sept)  in the year but hopefully we can do some comparing where he can find a deep target or me and see if either of us can hear it and get it on video. Like in this video with the Nox..

Hey OBN, your video is titled "Nox and Excalibur", is he using a nox or manticore?

If not do you know what mode/settings your friend was using?  Also do you know what he had his upper and lower limits set at?

    Thanks!

  3. I hunt relic sites, I did the same as you thinking it could be something good but deep and instead iron.

What I do now is if at-hc give good signals but at-lc gives iron I move on.  If both at-hc and at-lc give positive signals I dig some dirt away and check the signal, if it gets worse with more iron I close up the hole and move on.  At-lc doesn't have the same max depth as at-hc but if its hitting it as iron I'm not gonna spend to much time on the signal.

One other thing if I'm getting a good tight signal with some iron grunt I will investigate those as there's a possibility that its a good target with iron near it.  So with my experiences 98-99 signals have usually been iron.

Have you tried using the new stabilizer feature yet at your sites?

After going back to the previous software version on the Manticore, doing some testing and then updating to the most recent version, I apparently had a bad update the first go around. Because now the most recent download is much better than the first one I tried.

However, I'm still seeing some weird stuff with the update and one of them is depth issues in my soil. It's not as bad as the first try, but it's still very apparent to me after hours of testing. The first update was like the stabilizer was stuck on 6 or something because even what I consider shallow targets were hard to detect. Now it's better but I'd say the 900 and D2 are at least a good inch deeper and maybe more. The signals area also choppy on the Manticore and I'm thinking this is the result of Minelab's attempt at general stabilization. I think this is the result of mineralized ground and those who have mild soil have nothing to worry about.

I did a video of what I'm seeing and even in my test garden with the Manticore before and after the update it's pretty apparent it acts different on deeper targets. I also took the 900 and D2 out to one of my relic sites which has a bit milder ground to see how the update compared to the other detectors and it's also pretty apparent to me the Manticore isn't performing as well. So that being said I'm going back to the old version and sticking with it until Minelab does something different.

If anyone else is seeing similar issues I'd like to know about it because Minelab has said they want to call and talk to me about what I and others are seeing with the update.

I watched your video and as you were adjusting the stabilizer and how it was affecting the signal I noticed that stabilizer still said OFF when you were increasing it.

For the stabilizer, the new instruction manual does mention that you're only supposed to use it in heavy iron.  But it doesn't matter much if the on/off setting for it doesn't work!

Definitely something off with the update!

  5. I've noticed some different behavior of the detector with the new update.  My hunting environment is in the woods at 1700-1800 home sites, low to medium mineralized soil. So far I've mostly been using AT-LC and it doesn't seem as noisy any more in the iron.  With the prior version it would hit on the iron constantly and false alot, the new version it doesn't false as much even when not using the stabilizer.  Im even able to run it at higher sensitivity without it chattering from EMI.

I've only been out with it twice since updating it so I'm not sure if it's experiencing any depth loss.    I'll have to test it some more at home today.

But somehow they had enough bandwidth to refresh the Nox, upgrade the Nox coil ear design,  release the 700/900, and also the X-Terra Pro shortly after that with two new coil form factors available upon release of the Xterra all right on the heels of the Manticore launch.

I'm thinking the nox redesign was in the works for awhile along with the xterra pro.  I mean the xterra pro is mostly a Nox with the multifreqency removed from the programming.  Also those new xterra coils look exactly like the vanquish coils so they probably didn't put much time/effort into designing those to work with the xterra.

C'mon ML - show a little after sales respect for your customer base throw us a bone by getting those Manti coils on the street with some reasonable pricing.

Throw a Nox 900/Manticore wireless receiver out their too so we can have a little variety on untethered 3rd party audio gear.

Every time I take my manticore out I find a few more things at some hunted out places and I keep thinking "If I had the smaller coil I'm sure I'd find even more!".

I really want some sort of 3rd party audio gear, the headphones the manticore came with sound good but their too bulky and I prefer ear buds.

I wonder if this slowness is part of a deliberate business strategy to 'smear out' revenue/profits over multiple financial quarters - to satisfy corporate bean-counters and/or allow senior execs to "earn" juicy bonuses for meeting performance targets.

I believe this is also a real possibility.

Well FY23 is ending on June 30th maybe we'll be able to find some info in the FY23 annual report when its released.  Maybe they're waiting for the start of the next FY to make any announcements.

  7. I'm guessing minelab was caught off guard with the Deus II release and got the manticore finished as quick as possible just to get it out and available to the public.  This probably involved focusing all programing efforts at that time on just the 11" coil and the current software version might not even support the other coils.

I'm betting that minelab will release the new coils at the same time that the new software update becomes available.

I have resorted to using a $ 29 BT LL transmitter that plugs into the headphone jack.

I glued Velcro strip on the cover for the manticore and the other Velcro on the back of the transmitter, it stays stuck right over the back of the housing while plugged into the headphone jack.

I have several ear buds that work with it.

Volume on the Manticore has been rather tricky, not sure if this is my hack transmitter or just how the manticore works.

Instead of glue and velcro check out 3m Command velcro strips.  No mess!

the 2 coins I dug were -12 to -15.. or 12 to 15 with red line.. the tones were just iron grunt.. I used all tones all metal with rich profiles (because for me I can differentiate the good target to a unwanted target at different depth to some degree) ... I do believe there is data set/ pattern that we can use from the manticore negative number (-1 to -99) but I think for now I concentrate on how the red line works. I still in the state of 'prolonged suffering' though, but sometimes I get the 'admirations state' and all the suffering is worth it... lol

How deep were those two coins? I'm curious if they were really deep or just next to iron.

I was just looking for a used 800 for cheap and actually I'm pretty surprised there doesn't seem to be much out there. Did all the 800's sell quick, or did a lot of people keep theirs?

The only used ones I can find, I can get for about the same price new with a discount.

I think most people that wanted to sell theirs to fund a new machine already did.  The 600 & 800 are still good machines and its nice to have a backup or loaner so I'm guessing people are holding on to theirs, that's why I kept mine.

  11. I'm pretty sure the manticore is gonna noise cancel out the trx because its causing the detector the most emi at that point in time, but when you turn off the trx the noise cancel channel that the manticore is on may not be the best choice.  Since Fishersari said they're not having any issues maybe there's something with you're trx that's causing it.  can you turn down the power level for the trx?

Here's a bunch or random ideas to try, have you tried going to the noise cancel screen and manually switch the channel up/down one when using the trx and then switch it back when you're done pinpointing? Does putting the manticore in pinpoint mode while the trx is on still cause interference? If you push the menu button and go to the ground balance screen while the trx is on, is there still interference?

I'm glad I went ahead and got mine from Cabela's (sorry, dealers).  Last week I added up all my gold/silver finds since I sarted hitting the beach with it (sometime around Jan 25th) and it's already halfway paid for itself in melt value.

I'm also glad I got mine from Cabela's, I couldn't justify putting down the whole price without a guarantee of receiving it when it was released.  I feel like I got to skip to the front of the line by buying from them.

But this whole release has given me a good look into the potential future of minelab and I get the feeling that the money counters are running the show over there at minelab.  The engineers at minelab have done a great job with the manticore and I know that they're working on a new software update but I hope the money counters don't hold the engineers back from providing additional software updates in the future.

The only time I use tracking is in a place where I cant get a good auto GB that last more then 5 minutes..usually that is at a beach  with lots of black sand or in highly mineralized ground. For most of my park hunting I'll stay in Auto GB and stay away from tracking. I don't usually do a manual GB but should give it a try.

    strick

Sorry I meant I use Auto GB, I always forget that you could actually manually ground balance.

  14. 2 hours ago, TripleT said:

Now, ground balance set to zero with tracking on is useless to me.  It takes forever for GB numbers to level out.  So, I start with a manual GB then turn on tracking.  Thoughts.

Ya I noticed the same thing that ground balance tracking doesn't adjust very fast to large changes.  Auto ground balancing first then turning on tracking is the way to go.

Not sure I did a credit card and it was $1,599 and I got $1,554 credit...And you are correct that dealer will not be getting any more business from me.

When you originally pre-ordered did their site or documentation during pre-order process say that you would be charged $45 fee for cancelling?

If not call your credit card company and complain, you might be able to get that money back.

  16. I know the title of the video is "Deep iron 13" but he never shows what he dug so we really have no idea if it was a good target, just iron, or a good target with iron mixed in.  I also would have wanted to him to turn 90 degrees and check what the signal sound like that way.

When he lowered the recovery speed the target trace showed there was quite a bit of iron so the slower recovery speed could cause iron masking, with the higher recovery speed it might be seeing a good target in between the iron pieces.  It would have been faster to have dug some dirt out and rechecked the signal then switch through every mode.

Check this video out, he's showing what he digs in some heavy iron.
