Just had to log in again from the last time ... usually don't have to do that. But after the quick login the site seems to be working very well. No worries here Steve ... I know you are doing the best for the forum ... No complaints from me! 😀

Looks like a winner Doc. Well done!

Mike do you know if Frank still lives at 3335?
I don't know but he should respond here. He goes by 'dirtman' on this forum.

And with multiple witnesses hunting along side me at the time ?
And I was one of those on site witnesses. Frank was having trouble pinpointing the exact location of that nugget in the deep wide hole he had dug. I hollered down to him from above the wash he was in asking if he was on to something. He asked if I had a smaller coil and yes I did so I brought my machine down to him. After a couple of swings and a couple more scoops of dirt he put a handful of dirt into my hand with a huge grin on his face. The nugget was still covered in dirt but I felt the extra weight and knew immediately that he had his target. I wanted to clean the dirt off right away but out of respect I handed the nugget still covered in dirt back to Frank so he would see the first sight of it. Once he saw it there were a few words spewing from his mouth not in anger but pure joy of finding that nugget in the wash. As I recall the hole it came out of was pretty deep. I'm guessing at this point probably about 2 feet ... maybe a bit more. Great find Frank and glad I could share a small part of it with you.

Battery in 1938 and it was then 2002! Wow! Someone must be getting desperate to nail something to Jacob! Hope the judge takes a look at the age of the warrant and dismisses it. In all likelihood the person or persons he may have caused battery on are no longer living in 2002!

Good thing you refused the whiskey. He is/was dehydrated and whiskey would dehydrate him again. Counter productive to saving him!

I think what Jacob is really saying is he doesn't want to go back to the cabin in Oregon only to die alone. At least if he is mining no matter how cold and snowy it gets in the mountains he is better off there. And if Conor is willing he would have at least one person to converse with even though Conor is a much younger generation. But he is showing signs of growing up ... at least by the standards of Jacob and Conor's father if he were alive.

GhostMiner I know how it is when your friends and partners are dropping around you. I lost a good one in 22 and another in 23. Hoping no more in 24 but we are all getting up in age. I just turned 75 a week ago . Some of my friends are the same age and some a bit older into their 80's. We all are heading there I just don't want to be next ... at least for the next 15 years or so, maybe more. Thankfully while we are still of this earth we have memories of all those old friends.

Having a city slicker investor coming to the mine site reminds me of days gone by much earlier in this story! If they are smart they wont return. But then again money grabbers think they can out smart a 'dumb' miner or two. Didn't work so well for the old crew doubt it will work for this crew.

One positive out of the recent events before Bill's passing ... He got to see what is hopefully Conor's turn around from an angry kid to a good working adult! RIP Bill Anderson!

One of my other passions beside detecting is tournament bass fishing out of my kayak. Now one of the items that I felt was essential in any tournament is my fish finder. It is run by a small 12 volt battery. Tournament was about 300 miles from home and guess what was still on the porch back home ... YUP! The battery! I did fish the tourney without the fish finder as there wasn't a store nearby that had anything other than a big car battery. I didn't come close to winning that one but I did make the middle of the pack. In the end I was happy where I placed even if it was out of the money. i use a check list now for every trip.

Were Garrett detectors one of the best you could buy back in 2002?
No. At that time I believe the new more powerful(my opinion) Minelab GP3000 had just come come on the market at about $2900. The GP3000 replaced the older SD2200.

GhostMiner ... If I was the crew boss they would be gone now. Are they still getting a share of the gold while they continue on their treasure hunt?

Took a bit of a rest from the forum and the computer in general over the weekend. So Happy Belated New Year to all. Here's hoping your new year has started off prosperous ... in whatever that prosperity might be. 2024 is going to be a good year I believe!

flakmagnet ... when I was living in AZ I was a Costco member but dropped it when I moved to NH because Sam's Club was the nearby center about 12 miles away in Concord NH. Unfortunately they don't have a hearing center in the Concord Sam's Club. I kept putting it off when I lived in AZ and now I am beginning to regret doing that as the hearing loss especially in my left ear is getting worse. Ah ... what was that you said? LOL Thanks for chiming in. I think I will look to see if another Sam's Club in NH might have a hearing center.

Andyy ... Did you ever lose one over in the Cleator AZ area on one of the Road Runner claims? I found a Bunk's Burro (I think it is called) pick, the smaller of his two sizes, over there a few years ago and gave it to one of my 'students' during a detector lesson.

Mitchell ... I'm now beginning to think Miracle ear is not the place to go ... WOW ... $6000.00 seems a bit much. May still get tested there though.

mn90403 ... be very interested in what you finally settle on. I will be having a hearing test after the first of the year. It will probably be at Miracle ear because that is a more local place for me. Hope they have their act together.

So now you not only have a pissed off Conner but Jacob as well. Not sure which one I would be afraid of something happening. I guess I would watch Conner and beware of Jacobs experience and history. I would not want to be on the wrong end of Jacob's tommy gun! As for Conner if he does one more stupid thing with that 45 I would be taking possession of it. But then that is just my way of handling things. Looking forward to how it plays out in the story.

Heat exhaustion is no joke ... good thing he collapsed when he did because heat stroke is the next step and that far up the mountain could prove fatal!
