Former Nugget Shooter forum member here, good to see at least a couple of you, have new place to hang out... great to meet again! 😊

Welcome Red_desert ... Good to see you back on a forum. Those of us that were Nugget Shooter Forum members miss the old place but this place is a welcome new home base. Look forward to your posts my forum friend.

I was referring to another comment. No problem.

Guilty as charged I guess! But I do have respect for Jacob ... he is a rough character and seems quick to the fist but aren't many of us? LOL I meant no harm in my observation. And you are probably right Jacob would have at least raised his fist to me if I had been able to say that to his face. He may have even let me have it! So please don't stop with the postings ... I am one of your long time readers and one of your defenders on a now dead forum. Keep with the postings ... PLEASE!

Just an old man talking with two woman. No cause for young men to start shoving him around.

Very true. But you have to admit when confronted by the loggers even in slight interactions he flared and the fists were put into action. Don't get me wrong GM I like Jacob's character. I think he and I would get along just as I think you and I would get along.

  4. I put off my trip back to AZ this past winter in exchange for a couple of opportunities in the Kayak Bass Fishing Tournament world on Lake Murray in SC. Most that know me know I have three conflicting addictions. Kayak bass fishing tourneys, whitetail deer hunting in NH/Maine and gold nugget metal detecting. It's looking like this fall may be a return to the AZ desert for a month if hunting dates work out well for me. I guess we will just have to wait until August to see if the price of gold holds or increases. Spring and Summer is definitely kayak bass season season for me.

And with multiple witnesses hunting along side me at the time 👍

And I was one of those on site witnesses. Frank was having trouble pinpointing the exact location of that nugget in the deep wide hole he had dug. I hollered down to him from above the wash he was in asking if he was on to something. He asked if I had a smaller coil and yes I did so I brought my machine down to him. After a couple of swings and a couple more scoops of dirt he put a handful of dirt into my hand with a huge grin on his face. The nugget was still covered in dirt but I felt the extra weight and knew immediately that he had his target. I wanted to clean the dirt off right away but out of respect I handed the nugget still covered in dirt back to Frank so he would see the first sight of it. Once he saw it there were a few words spewing from his mouth not in anger but pure joy of finding that nugget in the wash. As I recall the hole it came out of was pretty deep. I'm guessing at this point probably about 2 feet ... maybe a bit more. Great find Frank and glad I could share a small part of it with you.

  6. I think what Jacob is really saying is he doesn't want to go back to the cabin in Oregon only to die alone. At least if he is mining no matter how cold and snowy it gets in the mountains he is better off there. And if Conor is willing he would have at least one person to converse with even though Conor is a much younger generation. But he is showing signs of growing up ... at least by the standards of Jacob and Conor's father if he were alive.

  7. GhostMiner I know how it is when your friends and partners are dropping around you. I lost a good one in 22 and another in 23. Hoping no more in 24 but we are all getting up in age. I just turned 75 a week ago . Some of my friends are the same age and some a bit older into their 80's. We all are heading there I just don't want to be next ... at least for the next 15 years or so, maybe more. Thankfully while we are still of this earth we have memories of all those old friends.

    Old Farts Club

Who you calling old fart. I'm 74 will be 75 February 2nd. My body tells me I am maybe 45 at this point but next morning my brain says "Damn we hurt today ... what the hell were you thinking about yesterday?"

  9. One of my other passions beside detecting is tournament bass fishing out of my kayak. Now one of the items that I felt was essential in any tournament is my fish finder. It is run by a small 12 volt battery. Tournament was about 300 miles from home and guess what was still on the porch back home ... YUP! The battery! I did fish the tourney without the fish finder as there wasn't a store nearby that had anything other than a big car battery. I didn't come close to winning that one but I did make the middle of the pack. In the end I was happy where I placed even if it was out of the money. i use a check list now for every trip.
