I like my Terra Pro. It does well on the beach .

The numbers are bit jumpy but then again i have seen that on my 900 and seen it on the Manticore on youtube video's.

The only thing i would like to see is a way to knock out those damned jagged edged crown caps which come in at a high number even though they are made of Iron.

Right, they've gone upstairs with the sterling silver. And they sound good...

We don't have an iron filter so all you can do is slow Recovery Speed (to 1) and listen well for that 'looooong' tone, it's slightly shrill with every swing. If you slowly approach the top of the coil, negative ID's will appear.

I'm finding more Silver than with the Nox 800 without a doubt. It is also true that it sounds throughout the extended scale, not just above and with that easily recognizable high-pitched squeal. I explain...

This men's chain came out on an ID around 24-26. The Pandora bracelet rang very low, between 14-18. That heavy ring came out in an amazing 94-95 ID.

The thin women's rings with stones jump around 42-48 and the heaviest around 74-82.

I think it's better to cover the screen with a piece of duct tape... 😂

It works well on the beach. Yeah...

... Take an Equinox, and make a stripped-down cheaper version of it.... or make a detector that behaves like the X-Terra range. No doubt either is possible, the microprocessor brains is surely capable of plenty more that what the finished product does.

...I think it's more similar to the 700-900 range than the previous Nox.

Extended scale, VCO audio, ML85 headphones...

Only when you turn it on do you realize that the processor is much faster.

I l want to see the test with the oscilloscope too. Plain and simple, it doesn't work like an SF. I don't believe it, experience tells me it's impossible...

    Underwater is amazing!!!

I have also tried it on hard terrain beaches (where my Nox 800 has problems) and it still works just as well. I don't know how they did it...

Far above Nokta's "multi" range. In my opinion.

    An excellent starter machine...🤣

I think a pre-owned Equinox 600/800 would have been a wiser choice. The Xterra Pro is basically an Equinox with the best features removed.
I use a '600 , and find it an excellent all-round machine, though it does have its 'negatives' as you are doubtless aware.

    ...I disagree.

I have a Nox 800 since 2019 and an X-Terra Pro since the end of March of this year. The Nox has been in the garage for more than a month without leaving...

This came out last storm. Two nights on the beach in a row, it had been a while since I had such a good time.

    It shouldn't be that bad...

...Its worth every penny of its price, so far I keep find stuff in my own yard, and I've been wandering around my 1/4 acre lot on and off for more than 10 years.  (also I have 4 coils for it)

......That piece came out at the doors of my house, first day; just taken out of the box. I live on the seashore and that area has been detected for years too!

It was deep, about 10' inches, but it's not so much deep?! ...No ???

Take a good look at the photos, it's broken at the bottom...It was a weak signal, forget about the ID, but I could hear that clean tone in the background that I adore. Among all those familiar iron growls.

    Curious.

And for the price of a coil. Master play!! 😎

  5. ...Last night I returned to the same beach, I knew that I had left gold; I could 'almost' smell it.

    And I wasn't wrong...

A DANA has passed through the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula and has brought waves of more than 2 meters. You have to go out there and play, now!

The night started with a silver bracelet signed by PANDORA, we're doing well...

A lot of old currency, in Spain pesetas were used before the arrival of the euro.

    There were quite a few!

The wind was beginning to take its toll on me, it was the second day in a row and my strength was beginning to falter.

    Another silver ring!...

I found a patch where targets kept coming out, another hard coin, a lead bear and BANG!!!!

    Gold wedding band.

Almost 10 grams in a couple of nights, thank goodness it was a 'starter' detector.

I have already passed the limit of 100 hours (this weekend I try it with the other coils for real) and I can only say the same as a famous Spanish bullfighter:

    Im-presionante!!!

I am exhausted and with a smile that does not fit on my face...😁

I will have one Friday. I just sold my Legend which I never bonded with at all. I had an Xterra 705 and it was my most productive time of detecting ever. I loved it but sold it to get a Nox.
Now my main detector is my Deus 2.
i got the XTP as a backup and to keep in my car. Not worried as storage up to 157 Fahrenheit is ok according to Minelab. My car never gets anything close to that- maybe 110 at thee we extreme.
I’m even going wired lightweight headphones with the Xterra bc I don’t want to be having to charge wireless ones and don’t want to buy anything additional- just the $265 main purchase.
Erratic IDs don’t worry me at all. Not sure I’ll love the 12x9 coil but it is an ideal all rounder. Previous poster said has square non rotatable coil shaft and was hoping for round to make flat when collapsed, so might have to remove for when back packed. However, it isn’t going to be my main detector and there’s a lot I like - plus the 705 was a magic wand to me and I think I’m going to bond to my Xterra pro as well. I’ll let y’all know soon enough. So far this Year getting out to detect has been hard, but that will change now.

I've had it since the end of March. You're going to love it!!!!

I also sold my Legend, I couldn't tune in with it either...

On the Mw beach I think it is too weighted for high conductors, there is no way to get gold...

Stability runs at 5 in Factory settings, I don't get it, you're losing gold!

Everything that does not "understand" goes to ID 11, in short, an error (in my case).

The X-Terra Pro will be paid soon, It has got more Gold in a month than the Legend in a year.

    You will tell us...

Same here, albeit with the CT15 on the 800.

What I've found from about 2 hrs on it is:

    1. It's a heavy swing and wears down the arm. But yeah, exercise makes you stronger!
    2. EMI hasn't been a huge issue for me, but YMMV.
    3. On air tests, it behaves strangely sensitive on small junk rings...like a 10" no prob. That may just be me, however, and I don't possess any "real" jewelry to test against.

Anyways, I'm taking the hog out again tonight for a couple quick swings at the sports complex where one of the kids has soccer practice. Plan is to drop the sensitivity to 17-19 and cover an fairly low traffic area, cherry-picking for coins.

Testing and learning, testing and learning.

Yes ,It's a little bit heavy...and you need to be in shape for the holes you are going to dig.

This is the best combination I have found:

    - Detect-ed carbon upper shaft, and

    - Shorten the lower shaft a bit, your shoulder will appreciate it.

    An excellent coil.

    ...I save that appointment.

Open mind is the first option that should appear in the configuration menu of any detector!

When I started in this there were no screens, no VDI... and small findings came out even so. There were no forums either and nobody taught you anything...Rare was the day in which he coincided with some other detectorist.

    But all that changed.

Now we are "a few" on the same beach. Each one with a better team and always the same ones in the same places... Typical expression: There is nothing, no Gold...

Get out of your comfort zone!!! Try new beaches, new programs, another settings. If you always do the same, you will get similar results.

I detect on the beach, I do it at night and I do it alone (less diving)...

It is the only way to continue learning.

If you are changing equipment every six months, if you only want to copy the configuration that they just told you, you are finished.

Next summer you won't be on the beach anymore.

If the wind bothers you, and the water is very cold... then I will arrive and the jewelry will be mine.

That's Silver has come out of the new X-Terra Pro in about 70 hours.

There is no tourism yet, why do you go out in winter, some colleagues ask me...

    Open Mind.

I've been busy with some other detecting lately out in the deserts.  I like those nuggets and meteorites.  You can kind of target those and know what you'll get.

When you go to the beach (just like a park) you can get coins, relics and jewelry.  Today's best finds were a couple of rings.

The first was a stainless steel ring found after a couple of hours of mostly nothing except those tent stakes.  My beaches have been very stingy the last few weeks so I was glad to get it.  I slowed down with the 11/800 and began to find 'patch' stuff.  I like patches.  I grid them and just enjoy having a few targets together rather than long walks always.

My clues were that I was out on a pretty low tide and things were seemingly deep for the 11.  I'm normally a 15 user but the 11 was on and I didn't expect much and was back to where I started when I got the stainless steel ring.  It says 316L and weighs 6.7g.

I continued on just above the black sand line and found other coins and stakes and then I heard a faint 'penny' or it could have been.  I made it down a full scoop (6") and it was still in the bottom of the hole.  A couple of more scoops, around 10" I got it out.  It was a nice shine for the early morning.

This is a 10K with lots of little diamonds.  It weighs 7.8 grams.  My first gold ring in quite a while and first one with the 11" in even longer.  I'm ready to take the 3030 out this week with the 17" and see if I can renew a liking for it and look at some of my old find points.

That glow on the scoop at dawn..aghh what a feeling!.

And more after a job well done.

I still think that the Nox 800 has life, and when "it's hot" together with good hands, it gives brilliant results!...

    Beautiful piece and heavy.

    Congratulations.

I actually sold my Manticore was not impressed and felt it was very much work in progress. In the cold light of day not much of an improvement I felt for the high price tag. Its to sparky and to noisey meaning that you have to constantly monitor the screen. More tiring than relaxing. You shouldn't have to lower the sensitivity down to much in normal situations and the max limit of 35 is useless in most situations and I feel was just to help with better specs and a selling point. The headphones are useless in windy conditions and you have no module to help enhance your audio experience. The screen suffers from screen glare at certain angles, battery run time isn't that good and the torch and vibration mode I would suggest most people wont use. The short noise cancel  is not needed as the long press is a must in most situations. I may purchase again in the future but things will need to improve. Deus 2 seems to be the best upgrade at the present time. So thats my feelings at the present. The nox 800 is my preference at the moment and seriously looking at the 900. But Jeffs issues have me holding back to see whats what.

I'm so sorry you decided to sell it, that's not good news.

I've been following the Manticore since the famous Christmas ad... I had decided, now, I don't see it clearly...

    Thanks for your sincerity.

  14. Hi,

Sorry, I hadn't seen this thread.

As I have already told you privately with any of these three units you will not be wrong to begin with. But that's what it's all about, starting...

It seems that we have already forgotten the principles.

I am a fan of speed motorcycling and owner of a Yamaha R1 '08. I would never have chosen it as my first bike.

If you are going to start with a Nox 900 (easy to recommend and even more if the budget is not a problem), what will you have left for the future... a Manticore? a Deus 2?

Or will that Nox 900 go to the bottom of the storage room as soon as the summer ends?...

You should also consider the option of a Simplex and if ID is so important to you with the Vanquish you would be fully satisfied.

My recommendation remains the same as what I have already told you, to begin with you will fall in love with the new X-Terra Pro and if you like it you can always buy the detector of your choice later...

After learning with a Nokta Makro Anfibio when going to the Nox 800 I was blocked for almost a summer (they are completely different machines). The same thing happened to me with the Legend and the X-Terra never ceases to amaze me.

I am now with the VCO audio. dP I'm liking it a lot and both the Nox and the Legend haven't set foot on the beach for a month...

If you are not going to be able to avoid looking at your neighbor with his brand new Nox, buy a used 600 or if you want it new the 700.

As I was telling you this morning, spend the money on a good scoop and good headphones!

    I don't like giving advice...

hola, yo tengo esa bobina en un nox 800 y hay que adaptarla un poco, me explico...

En primer lugar, y esto no se puede cambiar, será más ruidoso cuanto más grande sea. Sí, ¡pero también más profundo!.

No puedes tener ambos.

    Sorry, remember from Spain...

Hi, I have that coil in a nox 800 and you have to adapt it a bit, let me explain...

First of all, and this cannot be changed, it will be noisier the bigger it is. Yes, but also deeper!

You can't have both. Obviously, pinpointing will always be more difficult.

But, if you lower a sensitivity (which I see you've already done) and lower its recovery speed, it will become a weapon of mass destruction...

I work in sensitivity ranges of 17-19 and recovery speed around 2-3.

You will have "longer" tones but the serenity will return to your headphones...

That coil is terrifyingly deep and well built.

A little heavy (shorten the lower shaft a bit, you'll see that it feels much more balanced)...

Probé algunas configuraciones que encontré en línea, pero siempre termino volviendo a mi bobina original de 11 "que está mucho más establecida. Cualquier consejo, muchachos. Gracias.

And it will be paid several times this summer (I think). Last night waves and easterly wind, perfect conditions.

I managed to get a gold ring out of the hole, but I lost it to the next wave...

It sounded like "angels" ID 21 solid, again it will be...If I could get some coins.

    Yes, it's already paid.

The vibration function is remarkable in the water (and you can cancel ferrous only).

Keypad backlight! ...whoever has a Legend knows what I'm talking about.

    And pinpointer mode finally works.

The wedding band rang out in a clear and solid 22-23. From the beginning I knew it was there.

The audio is really good and now you got All Tones (At) and Deep (dP), what more could you want ?!?!...

I reserve the test on the beach with the 15' Coiltek coil for a little later. I think it will be awesome!

The €1 coin over 12 inches.

Perhaps the new X-Terra Pro will be the next game changer...

    IMG_20221211_180640.jpg

  19. I have one since 03/22/3023 and I use it exclusively on the beach...

Very good mechanics, the scuare shaft is a success, the coil no rotates during the hunt.

The original coil is precise and very light ideal for wading and surf.

I have tested it with the original 11' Nox 800 coil and the 15' Coiltek, it works perfectly. But I am doing the learning with the stock coil...

Impressed with the battery life, more than 12 hours of search using shoft light on (I have 4 full charges).

The stability on the beach is amazing, I think it's above my Nox. The fact that the coil enters and leaves the water is much better solved...

The tones are clean and clear, it does not suffer from false signals.

It is light and comfortable, you can hunt a lot of time without fatigue.

I thought that being 8 kHz it would be good with Silver, I've been wearing 3-4 rings for a couple of nights. ID 72-84. But, it's also good with Gold, three pieces!!!.

I don't know how they did it...

Like a coinshoter has no rival, our best coin (2€) now goes to id 62-63. Much better than before with the compressed ID's.

Pul taps have migrated to 31 and it's easier that way. I've come to hate 12-13 Nox. And if you don't dig it, there's no gold...

For me, the extended identification it's better. In dry sand you can use Park 2 on 15 kHz also. Very effective, it reminds me of Gold mode, which I also use in dry sand, more reactive and with metallic audio.

And now what I like least:

    - The bottle caps have gone up with the silver,

    - From 6 inches deep the ID reader simply does not work (normal in a SF).

So far pleasantly surprised and very happy with the X-Terra.

Who was going to tell us that it would cost less than €300...

    Thanks Minelab.

    😉

Not been hunting of late but when I do my favorite beaches are spots that have been closed, forgotten. Most here closed in the late 1960's. These are not ocean beaches, .........but bay waters, which can be calm to rough. sand is constantly on the move just not as much as the ocean. Here I've found hunting a few hundred feet off shore can produce the best results. Every spot is different but mostly here I'll skip all shallow targets, and listen for faints. If I come by heaverier (deep) coins like quarters (silver) or nickels I'm in the right zone for gold.  A great sign is crunchies.. a layer of broken shells. These can be deep or less than 10 inches, its a matter of timing, being there as soon as it happens.

......Old School, no screens. Only you, "your detector" and  all the power of your experienced ears.  Good job!.
