  1. I haven't had time to study this in detail.  I have noticed my clock going badly out of whack at least once since I upgraded everything to V1.10

I believe, but haven't yet tested my theory, that the clock goes wrong when pairing a different coil and/or some other accessory.

I've seen something out on the internet showing what someone purported to be a reply from XP, in response to a request to fix the clock problem, saying that XP didn't see fixing this as a high priority (or some other words to that effect).

My personal theory is that the problem may lie in a piece of code that XP themselves have licensed from someone else - and that they actually have no control over how to fix it.  It's not uncommon these days, where individual chips are in fact little systems in their own right, e.g things like wireless communications.  If I'm right, this would tie in with the idea that pairing is a trigger for the problem, as it may well involve running a piece of someone else's proprietary code.

At least I can keep my cellphone on and the D2 is clever enough not to be bothered by EMI from it - and keep time that way.

I think it's funny that the clock goes wrong, because actually, when I'm having a good hunt I lose all sense of time anyway! Maybe what would be most useful would be an alarm to tell you dinner's ready!

  2. I've just read the FCC Filing for the MC and this document is interesting: https://fcc.report/FCC-ID/Z4C-0054/6366018

It suggests that ML want to keep secret - for the foreseeable future - four documents, three of which contain the word 'wireless' in their title.

I notice that the SoC device that ML are using for their wireless linkage can effectively be used to create 'open' or 'closed' wireless connections using protocols covered by the BT specs.  That is, they may have chosen to use BT, but in a proprietary - closed - way, which would make third-party devices fail to connect.  e.g. at its simplest, they may have built in some logic that says, "...if the manufacturer ID code of the device trying to connect is not equal to "Minelab Pty" then fail..."

This object is made out of lead.

It was found on a late 1800s USA high altitude mountainous site that is in an area where cultivating the ground for farming on any kind of scale larger than a small back door garden would be impossible.

Ah! 😀In that case, the ideas that it's a measure/scoop for powder/shot/mercury seem much more likely.

I thought I'd hate the Deus 1 wireless coil stuff, but it's grown on me, I don't mind it, I'd prefer coil cables but in a way it's nice and quick to change coils and works perfectly fine.  I don't like the fact it's planned obsolesce with the coils and batteries but other than that, it's pretty good and reliable.  I can put batteries in my Gold Bug 2 decades after it's release and I want to as it's still a good detector today, can I with my Deus 1? I don't know...

I think it's fair to say that changing the LiPo battery in the WSA headphones, the WS6 and the D2 Remote is quite a lot easier than changing the battery in a cell phone.  Changing the battery in an XP coil is slightly less easy, but perfectly do-able (there are YT videos out there).  I would not let LiPo-phobia hold you back! 😀

I'm testing it on my iron field and works perfectly for me! Is a lot better with better audio. One minus - I think is slightly slower at signal processing... but audio and unmasking and stability are better! Also, iron falsing is lower. Huge progress!

So has it caught up with the MCore in your opinion?

Change the view of the tid from giant to standard.  Remember I said what you see different not what you hear

So, switch on the RC in prog 1 general, change from large TID to standard TID display, then hit the audio shortcut button, then go to the equalizer and what should I expect to hear that is not correct?

    How about this scenario?

Walking on the field, not scanning every m3,  just cruising.
    Deus2 settings:
Program Deep(up to 14 kHz), Leave the notch on 00-00 and set the discrimination from -6.4 all the way to 39. full tones, increased sensitivity, reduced reactivity to 1.5 , maybe 1
If I am coins orientated, I do not really care about anything else rather than a good signal(40+ for me). I do not have to hear anything else as I am not scanning the field, but always going forward, not coming back to the same location.

I tried this setup already and my D2 behaved quite well, to be honest. It seemed to get a bit deeper than the original Deep program, I could hear " less" noise.

The only question I have is: When using FMF on Deus 2 on the deep program, am I losing something in terms of finding the targets/identifying the sounds of good/false/bad targets?

I know I am missing something here.

If you're looking for coins then "Deep HC" (prog 6) is a good one.  Because it uses a lower frequency range than, say, "General (prog 1)" you risk missing out on some smaller items at depth (earring backs, cut quarter/half hammered coins etc.).

Raising Disc to 39 will make things sound quieter, but again, increases the risk that you may miss some smaller and/or masked non-ferrous targets.

    Horses for courses, I think.

Yep, did that months ago, created a WS6 Master rig with the original Deus shaft, and put the remote on SteveG's fabulous CF Deus 2 shaft. 😀 Got the 13" and remote on the CF, and the 9" on the original. Even made it so I can dunk the 9" up to a few inches below the puck holder with a piece of coax. 👍

I have 2 pairs of WSA II headphones, one for each. I'll use the bone phones with the remote occasionally.

I've done almost exactly the same but with an extra XP lite shaft instead.

  9. I get the impression that the testers are now happy with the software, and XP probably is too.  I guess we are now waiting for (at least) 15 different translators to update/'localize' the software and manuals.

In the manual it does not tell you when you have to charge it safely so as not to damage the batteries, in an update they should add the option to see the voltage of the coil, since it is not good to charge it always being at 50% 60% etc. From time to time it is good to reach the threshold of 3.3v without passing that voltage, since the battery is also mistreated and loses charge cycles, not making discharge cycles until 3.3v, and for storage the indicated voltage is 3.80v I have been in the world of Radio Control for many years and using lipo batteries, smart chargers are how they work.

Page 38 of the manual says:

"To extend the life of your batteries well beyond five years, do not store them either flat or fully charged for
a long time. Keep them half charged between 40 and 80%.
If you do not use your detector for several months, check them every two months by letting them go flat
and then charging them to 40-80%"

I don't always follow these suggestions, but I'm quite comfortable with the idea that I might need to change a battery or two at some time over the coming years, and that when I do, it will be inexpensive and reasonably easy to do.

that is amazing looks like you have some experience on deus 2

    thanks for sharing

and a question how long does the deus 2 main unit's battery last on 2 bars of charge left ?

Whatever you do, don't use the inbuilt clock to measure battery life (you could be in for some surprises!!) 😁

Along the same lines, when you set up your tone bins, there is no gap for the notched out areas. I am guessing that when hunting, any tone in a notched out area will be suppressed. But does that work differently between multi tones and pitch tones - if there is a difference?

    Thanks!

Any signals which match a 'notched' TID will be 'rejected' and not make any sound.  I think this works in multi/full and pitch tones - it would make sense if it did.  If you use notch in pitch, you can preselect which TIDs (TIDs being a proxy for conductivity) will not make any sound.

  13. When you save a program, you just save the active settings.  So if you've selected pitch tones, that will be what gets saved.  If you had previously been in, say 4 Tones and you had edited the 'stock' bins for that program, your changes would only be remembered until the machine was switched off.  Tone bins only really mean anything when the conductivity (as approximated by the TID) governs the frequency/pitch of the sound you hear - which is not the case in Pitch Tones (it's a confusing name really!) - the frequency/pitch you hear in this case only varies by size/distance.

yet with the deus 2 I find it difficult to hit small medieval coins in the middle of the iron,
the targets that exist in the United States are different from the European ones ...
for example I found the 6-inch plate with the nokta makro legend great
for hitting those small medieval coins disguised in iron and it doesn't cost 1600€ :)

Here in the UK we have a lot of small ancient coins hidden in iron and other trash.  I have found that my D2 is particularly good at finding them - we mostly have quite benign soils here, which helps a lot for any detector, I think. 🙂
