  1. Hi Arthur24 They are very nice gems, they are smoky/black Quartz clusters. I cannot put a price on it but I know that they can fetch quite a lot of money A long time ago, in the 80's I bought a large white cluster (ca 1.5kg) for AUD$180.00. Nice find Have a great day
  2. Hi At least in the US, you have a lot more coins having a "personal ID". We Aussies are not that lucky, ours have the same ID and, like you I dig nearly all what I hear, the only help I get is from the display which, luckily, shows a sort of a smear, however, that is not always true, and I cannot rely on ID's too, because the original ID do change depending on the ground. Still I detect a lot of relying on "feelings and intuition". Keep swinging and hAVE A GOOD DAY WoWo
  3. Hi Lil-Croft GB_Amateur has given you a piece of very good advice, do a reset first and then try an airt test with a few coins/objects, I would recommend a trip to youtube and see what they have to help you too, in particular the Menelab bit on the Manticore. My personal experience with it is that this is a superb detector, very easy to play with eg change settings and very sensitive. BTW my grandchildren a boy 9 years and a girl 7 years have both a detector and are avid detectorists, they work the parks around us and enjoy every minute of it. The boy has my NOX 800 and the girl the a GO-FIND 60 ( which I recommend because it is relatively inexpensive AUDS340.00 and very easy to use) Have a great day and keep swinging WoWo
  4. Hi to all, I am back with my experiments with the Manticore. I tried the new stability program and I am not quite sure how it works, I found that the sound was somewhat different, but I am still trying. Maybe I am using it in the wrong context, in the wrong settings. If someone has more experience, please help. Another problem I find, mind you I had it since I started detecting in Australia in 83. Because our trash, pull tabs, aluminium bits, and bottle tops have the same ID as most of our coins, It is always a challenge to detect in parks and some beaches. Has anybody found a way to help with the Manticore. I tried a few programs with mixed results, none quite satisfactory. If someone has experience with those programs I would love to hear from their experiences. I know that the Manticore can go deep and I have found dozens of small coins in the size of 1C, 3p, 5C and so on. My Grandkids love me for that. I still love it. Have a great day and keep swinging. WoWo
  5. I try to go to the old places which have been "trashed" by other detectorists. I like to go over those old spots, of course, there is a lot of trash, but most of my finds are around the 25 to 30cms and over some time, most of the time they are very small coins,5c, 10c, 1c, 2c, 2p, 6p, some pennies and other decimals, usually the target sounds are faint and iffy, but I am used to it now and really enjoy finding them.
  6. Yes, just discriminate leaving only the target you want eg $2 and $1 coins and when you detect play with the different frequencies until you find one you find to your liking.
  7. My Garrett carrot is sick and I bought a Minelab Pro pinpointer 35 a few weeks ago. I have mixed feelings about it, somehow it doesn't feel right, a bit weird to hold, and it has a very weak LED, sometimes when I hold it upside down it starts to squeak and stops when I turn it down again, the buzzer is not very loud but seems to get quieter sometimes too. At times it seems to stop working and I have to switch it on and off again, has anybody experienced problems with it? I feel it is not a patch against a Garrett Pro pinpointer and miss it a lot. Wonder if I could repair it, if someone has tips about it, I will be very grateful after all it came with me detecting for a very long time. Keep swinging and have a good day WoWo
  8. Hi to all My name is Reynald but I am called WoWo by my grandkids, it was what my kids used to call me when young and it stuck. I live in Western Australia in Bunbury, love going fishing, detecting, reading and playing with my computer. I joined because I like to learn more about metal detecting, despite having detected since 1965 I still crave more stories, info and knowledge.
  9. I have used the Manticore since it hit the market. Heard a lot of complaints about it, winging about the headphone, the complexity, all in one no one had it. When I got it, I was overwhelmed by the apparent complexity, BUT after a couple of trips I started to experiment with the settings, a wealth of settings, you can change practically everything. So, because I live in Bunbury and I have detected most of the places available for years I decided to specialize in finding what the others haven't. It is incredible how much I am finding all over the place, now I started something new, try to detect only specific targets using only a single frequency, so if someone has tried it please share your experiences.
