You're 100% correct Steve.....................

Awesome finds and fantastic write-up about what you've observed. Over the years I remember your posts of hunting in all metal mode for CW bullet in highly mineralized fields.
Quote:
"Site 3 is my bullet fields. If you've known me over the years on the forums, I talk about this place a lot. HIGHLY mineralized soil. The only VLFs to work in it are the ones with all metal modes. It generally takes a pulse machine to pull anything out of here any more. I have several videos of detectors at this place failing to produce signals on bullets we've located and then live dug. Some HEAVY hitting machines too. The Nox was a surprise here. It was best to run it in Field 2 or Park 2 mode with iron disc turned off...these bullets were deeper because we've hammered it with pulse machines and anything shallower or mid range has been picked over. Just to be able to pick up a bullet there past 6 inches is really saying something. These were coming in down to 11 inches in disc mode. I was super happy after this hunt."
Actually you were very instrumental in my decision to buy a PI machine to hunt similar sites in my area many years ago. I might add, the largest gold ring ever found was with my PI at the location I bought the PI for in the first place. Thanks to you.
The weather here has hampered my hunting trips, either below freezing and high winds or at least one snow storm each week since I received my Equinox. And another snow storm is due to day (6-8"), but spring is around the corner.

It is far more important to get targets dead center and with proper sweep speed to get clean target id numbers with Equinox than with BBS/FBS machines.
You're so right about getting the targets dead center. Actually the importance of this increases exponentially as depth increases and or co-located targets are in and around the buried target. I've been holding out on what I've observed, but what you say is extremely critical for a good target ID at depth. But all this is okay if we all keep your statements in mind when hunting. You're always on top of this type of information, and thanks goes to you.

Nice recoveries to say the least. I'm look to see a lot more super finds this coming summer.

I was actually looking for your findings to be just as you reported. Great and bountiful finds are yet to come.

Yes the Equinox is slightly nose heavy, but after a few outings I can't say I notice anymore.

I think you would be fine doing it either way. I personally chose my program, noise cancel, do an automatic GB then set to track. The reason I do it this way is because some of the mineralization in my area is extremely high and doing an automatic GB gives the machine a starting point to track from. I might add one thing, I really like checking just to see how much the mineralization changes within a few yards. Amazing how well this machine can keep up with the changes. Personally I learn something new with the EQ each hunt.
But the machine will perform extremely well using the default settings with each program you chose.

Amazing what hunters can think of

Yes the small coil is a must to have. Will be a very good asset in the heavy trash. I can only imagine what might be lying amongst the trash.

Great write up. I have noticed the same type results in my heavy trash areas. Amazing how you can hunt by tone and just how extremely fast the EQ can recover between targets with that sweet high tone.
Keep us posted on your hunts.

Awesome recoveries, I feel the same about all my machines. In fact I've sold all but I'll keep two, the F75 and my White's TDI as backup and specialty machine respectfully.

I have noticed this...most of the gold rings I have found are below the nickel range...I'm still waiting for that 12.13-12.15 Gold ring so I keep digging nickels....Wonderful post...and I hate the guy with the lawn mower.
strick
You are exactly right a very high comparison number of my gold rings fall below a nickel, maybe 9 out of 10. I never pass up a nickel. I did a few test using the rings I've found and some even fall as low as 2 in the VID scale.

I was a first time Innovator and can say it was not a mistake. I'm usually in the Late Majority category.
I'll have a lot to report once I compile the needed information to post only facts as they happen to me.
As always Steve your write ups are fantastically informative and very enjoyable to read and re-read.

Awesome recoveries. The Equinox will be finding a lot more for you as time goes on.

The Safari, Explorer and Etrac are heavier than the Equinox. I always loved the audio on the three pre-equinox machines mentioned, but the weight caused me to sell. But I liked the Explorer and Etrac a lot. The Safari as well as the other two have a much slower response between targets than the Equinox. They're not very good in heavy iron but they'll still find deep targets with practice. They could be deeper in perfectly clean ground but you'll never find a clean area around old home sites. As a conclusion I'll say from experience the Equinox has a more accurate "intelligent" TID in the trashy areas over all three. And that's what convinced me in my ground and where I hunt.

Yes, I've had the same type audio response happen to me. I don't think there's anything wrong, just the machine adjusting or rather preparing to pinpoint the target. I'm very happy with mine, 100% confident now. Just get out and hunt all you can.
Have you found anything good yet?

Excellent video, Mark. Thanks! I like the fact that you showed some common trash items (ring tab missing the tail, square tab, beaver tail) in with the desirable targets.
In my experience, small pieces of aluminum foil, especially thin foil such as pieces of gum wrappers, pieces of cigarette pack wrappers, and some candy wrappers, for example Hershey's Kiss wrappers indicate TID's between the top of the iron range and the US 5 cent nickel. Has that been your experience so far with the Eqx?
Yes the TID does range from upper iron to below a nickel, but the audio is so critical to what it might be. A coin or ring will sound smoother (start and end quick) not like a piece of tinfoil or gum wrapper which will sound kind of rough and longer. I'm trying to pay close attention to how the audio starts and stops along coil sweep distance. There is a lot of useful information in the audio response still to be learned. I'm still very excited about this machine.

You're exactly right Steve, I'm continually reminding myself of that actual fact while hunting.

Awesome story. More to come I'm sure. I love to hear what people are finding with this machine. There is a lot of special happenings going on inside this machine. Amazing what the capabilities are. I too have some stories to tell at a point in the future. I'm amazed every time I turn it on.
