  1. So yea, I need a Coil and could use some help finding what might work with my "vintage" pre-Pro BH Land Ranger. I've been looking for several days on the www, but it appears the BH pre-Pro era has dropped off the face of the earth. My existing coils have the "Push In Connector" (see data below) I ordered a CORS Fortune for a Eurotek and thought it might fit since it had the same push-in connector, but was wrong. Would not ground balance even with low sensitivity setting. Had to send it back. My hunch is that a coil compatible with the Discovery 3300 might work but I don't want to take another shot in the dark. I have concentrics, BH 4" 8" 10" coils, but would like to try a DD coil for the heavily mineralized soil in a gold producing area nearby. I see that metaldetector.com does have the 11" Fisher DD (SKU: 11COIL-F5) with the same plug in connector, and the 5" DD (SKU: 5COIL-F5) but not sure they will work with my LR. Land Ranger (pre-Pro) Frequency: = 6.9kHz Existing 8" concentric coil and 4" gold coil I did test the resistance of Tx/ Rx and the Inductance and they are the following. BH 4"Gold coil (came with my Land Ranger): Tx/ Rx - 8.8 Ohms/ 8.6 Ohms - Inductance = 2.38mH/ 2.59mH (using LCR meter) BH 8" Concentric (came with Land Ranger): Tx/ Rx - 5.6 Ohms/ 8.7 Ohms - Inductance = 2.41mH/ 2.59mH (using LCR meter) I appreciate any helpI can get on finding a DD coil that (hopefully) will fit my earlier BH Land Ranger and/ or QuickDraw 2 A CORS/ NEL would be nice ... I like the CORS Fortune/ Sharpshooter 8.5" x 5.5" DD coil. THANKS!
  2. At the crossroads of the Columbia River Gorge and the Cascade Range ... Carson, WA I see you're in Republic, bet it's beautiful there, and no doubt, a great place to swing a coil.
  3. Thanks. Yup BH made serious detecting affordable enough that even I could afford one or two or three. Best hobby ever, life is good. Luck to ya!
  4. Hi Jamie, Thanks for the reply. Land Ranger w/ CORS Fortune DD coil is my go-to for gold or older sites where I want to be sure not to miss deeper stuff (i.e casch, old coins), but the Quick Draw 2 is my favorite for scanning trashy camp sites, parks and schools. Thinking about getting a CORS Shrew for the QD2, I think it might be a great match to narrow the zone and pick out some older coins.
  5. Awesome finds! Finding any one of those would make it impossible to leave the area, nice work and may you keep on finding.
  6. Hey All, I know damn well that many seasoned detectorists, nugget shooters, ring finders, coin buffs, and history lovers, not to mention those that just roll with whatever they find and keep on rollin', are more than ready to make life easier for those just starting out detecting. I remember getting my first detector, a QuickDraw ll, and being a bit overwhelmed at the first. This is not rocket science, but learning from others is where we all learn to excel. I'll start out by giving newbies something that I think most of us would agree is the most important thing about detecting. Aim for having fun, weave yourself into the community of those who've got similar interests. Relax, discover and enjoy, that's the goal. Everything else is secondary. A hearty welcome to all who have recently joined the forum. Remember the words of Aristotle, “The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.” By sharing our adventures with others, we can all become greater than if we each learn new things but do not share that knowledge. Enjoy and respect others, and never forget to respect the areas you travel and hunt. Welcome to the forum, be well and may you find good fortune!
  7. My tongue-in-cheek replay would be, "heck no, stay home so we can find more". lol Go with your gut on this one, only you know what your likes and dislikes are, but for me, dreaming of finding more gold and treasures keeps me addicted to, at least, having a machine I trust, a DD coil that will help me find the right target, kit to supplement my hobby and who's to say I can't also enjoy other things, like photography, while I'm out there. I find it fun to research and learn, not so much to collect the latest gear, but to learn my existing gear well and get better at it year after year. As many here have already said, it's "getting out there" that counts. With an attitude like that, it's hard to go wrong, I'd bet my bottom dollar on it. Happy Targets!
  8. Depending on your location, of course, a smaller coil will get you into more cracks, crevices where gold migrates. If the area is flat, wide open ground, a larger coil may bring some advantages. (e.g. Western Australia, or open desert areas in the US) Save that $ for a trip to somewhere you KNOW gold has been found and enjoy the heck out of it. I wish I had a Gold Bug, it's a keeper.
  9. I just use the vibration, not a fan of loud anything. I do find the sound useful when changing settings but that's it. Luck to ya!
  10. I have little doubt that you're in the right place, welcome to the forum. I'm not familiar with the Vallon, but best of luck in finding that illusive firmware ... and targets too, of course.
  11. Hi Pete, Which part of Australia are you from? I know exactly what you mean regarding "I seem to be enjoying the scenery much more". I think every one of us could stand to 'stop and smell the roses' a bit more. We are fortunate to live in a beautiful area in the Pacific Northwest part of the US. This is one reason I love detecting/ nugget shooting so much, it gets me out there to enjoy the surroundings. Best of luck in finding both the beautiful scenery and finding those targets! Welcome to the forum.
  12. Hey All, My favorite haunt is a group of closed claims in the hills along a lava bed nearby. Also hit schools, fairground, parks, camping spots, trails and dirt roads along the claims. Detectors: Bounty Hunter Land Ranger (original, not the Pro) Quickdraw ll (same vintage) Pointers: F-Pulse (love this thing) Home brew pointer made from a lumber scanning wand with a beefed up coil on ferrite core Coils: Standard 8" BH coil 4" BH coil 10" BH coil (New) CORS Fortune (NEL Sharpshooter) 9.5" x 5.5" DD coil
