  1. I had my first experience with caliche recently...I was wondering if anyone has advice on which coils work well on caliche covered nuggets.  I plan to buy a 9x14 evolution soon, but don't know if that will be better in this regard.  I was swinging an advantage 12" RM and managed to get one, but thought there could have been  some I may not have heard. I use a goldscreamer and it  blasts on the tiniest of targets so I think there may be something special about nuggets with caliche. Any experience you can share is appreciated.

Crikey, where in my post did you get the idea I believe the Z doesn`t live up to advertised claims, on the contrary I have never had a ML product that hasn`t lived up to MLs claims and that is a lot That belief in ML is why chiefly along with Steves, Lunks & JPs reviews I have ordered a Monster unseen.

I was in agreement with you.  I guess I need to make my posts clearer. I also have one on order and I thought my post was in support of your opinion.  I was surprised it was taken the other way.  Since multiple people took it that way I guess it's bad on me.  No worries though I will be sure to leave no wiggle room for interpretation on future posts.  Good luck with the monster!  Hope mine comes in soon.

Really? There actually is an entire cottage industry revolving around that very concept! I do think maybe you are misunderstanding Novic however (double negatives can do that)... he has a GM1000 on order.

Perhaps there was a misunderstanding.  I was in agreement with Norvic. I also have one on order and I am hoping it is as good as it sounds.  I guess I missed hearing about people being unhappy with the 7000.  I was under the impression it was living up to the increased depth percentages claims made by Minelab.

Yeh price point is on the money (no pun) 2 coils top value, but also MLs long term reputation. The Monster with silent threshold (try Bogenes on the Z or the Deus) and that bit about the processor helping cover wider frequency recovery but on a single frequency MD, MLs got me intrigued, they just don`t bring out products that don`t come up with the goods.......... cos ML being an OZ Co I`m a wee bit biased.

That is a pretty big claim to make...I haven't heard of any people saying the 7000 does not live up to advertised claims.  I'm thinking and hoping the monster will be the same.  So far the reviews have me excited about it, but you tend to focus on the good things being said when that's what you want to hear.

  5. I just called Minelab customer service for the Americas and they confirmed there is a delay.  They said the detectors are made in Malaysia and  they did confirm they have been shipped from there.  No estimated arrival for west coast dealers was offered.

  6. Hey Mark, nice pick! I often find that one of the more rewarding aspects of prospecting is the fabrication of items that you think will make life easier in your quest for yellow.  Is that hardened steel? If so what process did you use to weld it?

Yes did that straight away. 17x13 Evo vs 17x11 Advantage, the Evo had a lot more sensitivity, and target signals much sharper. You could even drop the Rx Gain (on a 5000) by 3-4 numbers, and still benefit, and you know what happens when you drop your Gain 3-4 numbers, you reduce EMI by a lot. I've also compared 15" Evo vs 16" NFA, and the difference is quite staggering in favour of the Evo.

The Advantage is still probably the better choice for pre-GPX units, as they don't have any of the "smooth" timings, but I can imagine in mild enough soils, a 14x9" Evo strapped to a GP would do some serious damage

So is it generally accepted that the Evo coils improve the gpz series but not so much on the gp series unless it is really mild soil?  I was contemplating a 9x14 for my 3000...Would it be noisier than my 12" NFA RM.

  8. I have to admit that when I have had it for long periods of time, it was likely from not cleaning my gear. If your coil, pick, debris pouch, boots, etc. were exposed to the oils they likely still have it on them...be sure that you clean those or you may keep repeating your exposure without actually going back to the plant.
