On another note, I do recommend anyone using their local dealer if they have one.  If not, their are plenty of us dealers online (Rob's Detector Sales, Gerry's Detectors, Arizona Outback, Doc's Detecting & NuggetShooter to name a few that I highly recommend and are friends with.  Any of these guys will treat you right and we also support each other.

  Exciting news for sure, glad Garrett finally did it.  I have always been a supporter of Garrett, but they always seemed a bit behind the big guys.  That being said, I think the MAP will be touching $4k is what I'm guessing, several thousand cheaper than a GPX 6000.  I was hoping the new Garrett would be around $2500 - $3000, as the Minelab GPX 4500 at $2499 before it was discontinued was flying off the shelf.  

Either way, great to see Garrett in game and Thank God they finally agreed on a Military Discount.

Hey Gold Catcher and Valens,

  Ya, 95% of the time these are my settings and I have found nuggets under a grain on bedrock or near the surface with these settings.  I never found that I need to really crank it up, but rather bring it down to keep her quiet or when I experienced much hotter ground or an abundance of hotrocks.  

Valens - This is a new area that we are prospecting/exploring.  There is no reports or anything really written about gold being in this area.

   I normally always run High Yield & Normal Soil.  I run my Sensitivity from 10-14, normally no higher, but keep Auto Smoothing OFF.  I've had great luck with these settings and really listen to those faint signals.  I prefer to run a very smooth, quiet detector and listen for faint signals than to crank everything so high that you have to pick faint targets out among the extra noise.  

Keep in mind also, most of the gold we are finding here is at or near the surface to about 1-2 foot max.  

I love the NF 12" Z Searchcoil, so this is normally what I'm running all the time.  I might consider the NF 17" if it comes out.  

Swegin - Ya, it's not pleasant for sure, but doable during the early to mid morning hours.

Hey Guys/Gals,

   Here in the Southwest, it's now hot (over 100+ degrees) and higher humidity due to the Summer Monsoon storms.  That being said, many are still out roaming the goldfields during the early morning hours in hopes for a few gold nuggets.  A friend and I are still out and about, hunting in the morning hours until the heat/humidity or the storms run us out.  Spending most of the time in the gully bottoms, the bedrock can get as high as 140-150 degrees making it difficult to stay on the ground too long.  

This has been a weird year, we have yet to see a single Rattlesnake to date.  I have seen just about everything else, lizards, small rodents, bugs and other snakes, but no Rattlesnakes to boot. I'm not sure if it's the drought or what, but normally my friend and I would run across dozens of Rattlesnakes by this time.  I'm not complaining, just seems weird this year, but maybe we just have been lucky to miss them.  

On another note, I stumbled across this nice gold nugget a few weekends ago.  We were metal detecting with the Minelab GPZ 7000's in a new area and I got this faint signal right in the center of the wash bottom.  I almost didn't dig it, as I haven't found a single nugget prior to this targets, so normally I'm not going to dig deep targets right out in the center of any gulch unless I have a reason to believe there is gold.   I guess I have to be happy about this one, it was well over a foot deep on bedrock.  The nugget was just over 1/4 ounce in weight, nothing huge, but sure was a surprise to say the least!  

The nugget lead us into a new area that has potential and paid for gas (almost $6/gallon).  A few other smaller gold nuggets were also found not shown.  

Keep in mind, hunting this time of year, make sure you hydrate well, wear light clothing, pack enough liquids, wear sunscreen, gloves, hat and snake gaitors.  These are just some recommendations for all the years of searching the desert regions during the Summer.  I also recommend also hunting with a friend if possible and carrying 2-way radios so you can communicate back in forth and tell your buddy when you find that big gold nugget!

Swegin - You are right, but those customers are becoming less and less.  The support and training is valuable to a point, but the flip side is - customers feel they don't need the support, training and such anymore and just purchase where they can get the absolute best deals.  

That being said,  Gerry and I appreciate everyone's continued business with us.

I have to agree, even though each year my sales continue to increase, I could say I'm blessed.  However, it's a continual hussle each year, more advertising, more training, more shows and more bundling.  I think at some point when you start giving too much away (products, time, energy and such), it's time to throw in the towel.  It's not like the old days, where most of the manufacture truly appreciated your hard work and sales for them.  

I get more and more calls each year of customer that purchase from Amazon, as they can get the detector in some cases the same day and use incentives from Amazon.  

If I had to start over today, I would just say NO.  The little guy can't compete again the big box retailers anymore, the profit margins are slim (worse than ever seen).  

Anymore selling online or owns a physical storefront know where I'm coming from.  Wishing any of you a ton of success during these tough economic and troubling times.

   Yes, we all know you have sold more detectors than anymore in the World, hehe..  Something you should be proud of.    You probably put Kellyco out of business 

I think for the "hardcore, depth guys" the GPZ 7000 is still KING for them.  However, this is probably only about 5% or less of the nuggetshooters/mining operations out there metal detecting for nuggets.  

I think the remainder, 95% or so would have the best of success with the new GPX 6000.  This unit is much easier to use, super lightweight, more sensitive to small gold (with new aftermarket coils) and $2500 cheaper.  

Since I locked up about 1,000 acres around Rye Patch, now our customer can toss rocks back in forth over the line at each other.  Just make sure you stay out of the Pizza joint when my crew is in town 

For anymore that don't get our humor, Gerry and I have known each other forever, probably before these nuggets were even formed.

   I agree, great video and to sum it up, both detectors are great.  I'm one of guys that has originally owned the GPZ 7000 since it was released here in the US and same with the GPX 6000.  I don't need both, but its super hard to put the old GPZ 7000 down, as she has been more than good to me over the years.  

The small NF Z Searchcoil, 12" round has allowed me to find much smaller gold, down to just a grain in size on the GPZ 7000.  However, it was a $1100 investment to go from finding 3-5 grainers with no problem on the 14x13 DD, but the lighter coil did make some justification in my purchase.  

I really like the GPX 6000, superlight, easy to use, but I hate the fact the shafts like to twist and turn no matter how tight you get them.  I'm always concerned I'm going to tighten them too much and snap something.

   I'm not here to get into a battle about the authenticity of the nugget, it's a real deal.  The finder has been a long time customer/friend and the nugget was found in a historical goldfield here in Arizona noted for large gold.   This is just one of many that have been found there since the discovery of this location.  I personally have other pictures of this same nugget.  

As much as everyone want to have proof, I'm sure if the owner dropped it in your very hand, someone would walk away and say "it was bought, he never found it," "it wasn't really found here in AZ," and so forth .... 

I have found some really beautiful gold and I still have people doubting my own finds and they were no where close to 30-40 ounces or better.  

There are just too many doubter.  The person never had to share the find and wasn't going to until he thought maybe he could at least win something from Minelab by sharing it.  You would think a nugget find like that would at least deserve a small prize as it was found deep and with a Minelab GPZ 7000 metal detector.  Heck, I sold them the GPZ 7000, I should have gotten at least a hat out of the deal .... LOL

To my point, why not take it as a great find, encouragement that pieces like that are still possible to find.  

P.S.  You know it's possible to find a massive vein, it's possible to find a trophy nugget, anything can be possible if you believe in yourself and really try hard.  The ones that will never find something are the "armchair" quarterbacks. 

Just my thoughts, the next swing of the coil might be yours.

  The nugget shown in this post is a "genuine Arizona Gold Nugget."  The owner/finder is a close and personal friend and long time Minelab customer.  The nugget was found with the Minelab GPZ 7000.  He submitted the gold nugget in one of Minelab Find of the Month deal and from what he said he didn't win anything .... 

Big gold nuggets are still being found like this (although very rare) , but many don't get reported due to the rarity and high collector value.  

Hope this helps clarify the "unknown" about this piece.

   I believe this is one of my customers, really the only Minelab GPX 6000 that has been faulty that I have sold (knock on wood).  Myself, Deb, Keith and Detector Center have been working to get him a 3rd unit ASAP.  I could only imagine the frustration, but I have to give it to Deb at Minelab & Keith at Detector Center that they have done their absolute best to get this resolved.  

As frustrating has this can be, there is now a procedure that has to be followed when something is under warranty.  Many years back, us as Minelab Dealers could just ship a unit from our own inventory to replace the detector and then deal with getting the faulty one replaced.  Due to paperwork, warranty and such, this is no longer something that can be done.  

All detector must go back to Detector Center in PA for a replacement.  Detector Center will not ship another unit out until the warranty/faulty unit is returned with all accessories/coils.  It's my understanding they have been burned and never had units arrive back, but new replacements shipped out, so the the company is out 2 brand new units. 

This is about my kind of luck, so I understand the frustration of purchasing a detector that is $6000 and realize you got a bad one, let alone a second unit that was also bad.  

It's my understanding per the customer that the issue was not EMI, bad searchcoil, loose connections, improper use and such, but more so something potentially internally.  I was never able to troubleshoot or physically see the unit in action, just a handful of short videos where the unit wasn't working properly.  

That all being said, hopefully the customer will see another Minelab GPX 6000 in his hands before the end of this week, or early next week at the latest due to the Holiday. 

I think most would agree, the Minelab brand is one of the best in the World, so I know there Quality control is good, so I can't comment on what might have happened.

Hey Lunk,

   You're story traveled all the way to Arizona several weeks ago.  I heard from several customers of your recent success and that you had over 100 gold nuggets from the Minelab GPX 6000 at that time.  Congrats on an amazing haul of gold nuggets from Rye Patch.  Just makes you wonder how many "tens of thousands" of nuggets that place has given up over the years.  

Kind of reminds me of our hunt out here in Arizona when the SDC 2300's first came out.  I think we both had 20-25 nuggets each in just a few short days.  Have you considered going back to that place? 

I'm not sure how many hours or days it took you as I know you spent a lot of time training, but 3/4's of an ounce is a nice run at Rye Patch for sure.  

Maybe we can schedule a hunt this season or early next year before you head out of AZ.
